Harper's Island - Page 4

well I just think they didn't want to show the finale on July 4th.

Turns out that I"m going to be on vacation on July 11th and that's the 2 hour finale! doh.

Yeah, this show leaves little room for disappointment, or certainly not of the plot/logic/character variety. Wishing for more violent kills maybe. It's hard not to imagine the groom is the bad guy now. If it was Jimmy, they would have told us him definately at the end of this episode, not just strongly suggested it. If we're lucky, it's the black guy. The scene where the guy stops boarding up the door to talk about how he'd like to be less guarded and let people in more was the funniest scene on the show so far.

There were some good performances, I must admit. Like everyone else, I liked Cal and Chloe, but I also think angry townie and blonde Best Man guy have been making the most of their poorly written roles. And they've picked some good journeymen for the adult roles in Burgi, Beaver, and Rennie.

this was probably mentioned (but I just got Showtime, Cinemax and TMC yesterday for $5 a month)...

so I have all these channels to watch and stumble upon Alvin and the Chipmunks with a very hot looking Chloe playing Dave's love interest. Totally didn't realize it was her. Did I mention she looked great?

Oh, and don't worry about missing it on TV. You can just watch it off the CBS website like me, and likely be bombarded by several spoilers while you're trying to find the right video to watch.

Okay, so we're down to it. I believe those Canadian bastards will see the finale tonight or tomorrow, so I thought we could all post our final guesses before it airs.

I'm going with Henry and a not-quite-dead J.D. as being in collusion with Wakefield. And just to keep it in the family, I think Uncle Marty is tied in somehow, too. Not that I think he's alive, but his money and gun were never explained, and he was clearly targeted for murder as opposed to being a random killing. (Chloe had walked past the exact spot he was murdered only moments before. Clearly, the killer was waiting for Uncle Marty.)

seen the last two eps( i.e. the finale ) -- I thought it was a fitting end, albeit a bit dragged out in the last ten or fifteen minutes-- But I was glad to see all my guesses about secrets/twists going into the last two were correct, not that it wasnt painfully obvious.
Well basicly my whole family mad at me right now because I saw the Henry thing coming, how they did not I have no clue. I do find it funny that when it comes to "I'll explain everything" there wasn't too much of an explanation of the how (some of those murders are still hard to do without anyone noticing, looking at the trophy wife's murder in paticular).

But I can understand why Henry did that, he was adopted. Oh horrors! Considering how badly this show was writen why didn't they go all the way with it and say something like "you mom was horrible, she stopped me from watching the resolution to that Rockie and Bulwinklee episode that day" or "she never cut the crust off my bread" or something just as stupid.

Oh and way to build up the twist ending CBS. Who could see that twist coming, oh wait the entire audience. I take it the twist was that Jimmy was alive, if it was that Abby would hide something that allows Jimmy's escape well I think we all saw that coming too. Now if the twist was that Abby would actually be able to defend herself, that I admit was hard to see.

Overall I know if CBS has another event TV moment (whether its murder or not) I'm not punishing myself next time.

Like Jamie Kennedy says...

"There's always some stupid bullshit reason to kill your girlfriend."

It really did take pages out of the Scream handbook. The ending was ridiculous, though delightfully so, at least until the final twenty minutes, when it shit the bed a little. I enjoyed most of the two hour finale, including some good kills again (the bride, the black guy), and some nice little suspense scenes. The killer's motives were particularly funny. My favorite thing about it was that they resolved the microbrew plotline.

Fuck this show.

I enjoyed this series all in all. Nice kills. Though I guessed right about Henry as well.

Still can't believe that an entire island seems to be deserted except the characters.

F*** YOU CBS

I missed the finale, so i decided to go to On Demand to watch it, there was the rerun from July 4th, then the next selection was Harpers Island: Finale.
Decided last night to watch the "finale" but when they recapped the previous episode, it was a recap of the first hour, which was missing!

Maybe it was a good thing that it was on, but would have been interesting to see the black dude killed, see how wakefield got locked up and how hottie ended up in the wedding dress.

The finale wasnt that great. I havent talked to or read a post from someone that said they didnt see that coming.

It could have been better and more realistic, but oh well.

Too bad, the first hour was kind of great. Black guy got stabbed through the eye. The killing of the bride was about as dark as the show got.

On the plus side, I'm glad practically everyone got killed. My biggest disappointment with the ending was they gave the groom a sort of 'sad music' quiet death, where you realize how much he loved her. They should have gone all out with him, maybe dropped him into a vat of something, or something involving mechanical teeth. I was really hoping the finale had one last over the top expiration, but no.

I thought it was an excellent finale. I was quite sad to see both Sully and Danny go though, though even Wakefield was impressed by Danny putting up the fight that he did.

Props must be given to Christopher Gorham though. He played psycho extremely well. According to his Twitter he found out he was the killer when they were shooting episode 7, though the other cast members didn't know until they got the script for episode 12.

Well done Harpers Island, you might've dragged things out with a pointless story about Sacred Turtle beer (That uncle Marty was going to invest in!) but you pulled things together at the end.

I thought the actor who played Henry tried really hard but never quite managed to overcome his own blandness. And Arjen is absolutely right, they should have gone OTT with his death scene. Kind of pathetic how he went out. Fun, dumb/predictable show though.

got back from vacation and watched it last night. I enjoyed it. Loved that Trish wore the bride gown as you knew she would and be running through the forest. Its cliched, but just cool to see in a primetime tv show.

I thought the guy who played Henry was pretty good. By the second hour, he really portrayed the full out crazy man.
My favourite part in the finale is when Henry says he made a connection with Wakefield.

"You made a connection?!"
"Yeah, weird huh?" (Gives crazy little smile)

I think Gorham straddled a line between being out and out crazy and remaining the Henry we've seen throughout the show. I think he did a good balancing act.

I will say I didn't mind the way Henry went, but I thought Wakefield went down a little weakly.
Wakefield should have at least been hung from his own tree or something.
It didn't make sense that Henry went through all those murders just because he secretly wanted Abby all along when his bride to be was much hotter. The wife and i were pretty disappointed with the finale. Just didn't all add up. The reveal that Henry was behind the killings was ok, but the last 15-20 minutes seemed almost uneccesary.

Listening to the Chud podcast about Harper's Island, so I'm bring this thread back.

I stand by this as a fun show even though the ending did get lost.

I don't think Nick and the guys realized this show was a murder mystery and NOT a horror show.
Surely it was both? Every week had somebody either gruesomely killed, or stalked until gruesomely killed. Sounds like a horror to me.

It's Scream for the TV.
No, it was a horror show not a murder mystery.

A murder mystery involves clues leading to the big reveal and how those clues logicly fall into place.

Other than the general fact that Henry kept on spliting everyone up there were never anything to really lead to one thinking it was Henry. It was up to the writers who they wanted to be the murderer and that could of been anyone.
Henry's wife to be had more bad luck in Taken. But in that movie she deserved to die.

Well I guess you are right, but I know the show was pitched as a murder mystery. I think it just degenerated into a horror slasher.

Harper's Island: for when Adam West action sequence word balloons don't cut it anymore (sad though that we never got an episode called "Biff!")

So I have free Netflix service for a while. First thing I did with it was start watching Harper's Island to celebrate Halloween. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Only about half way through, but it's still the same crappy fun that I remember. By far the best thing about the show was the location and the way it looked, and I believe Netflix is the only way to watch it in HD now (no Blu Ray). Some stunning shots of British Columbia here.

What's amusing is that when you rewatch, you realize that even though the writing was shitty, they did make the effort to sprinkle around clues about the killer's identity even in the earlier episodes e.g. Richard Burgi having a bad feeling about Groom McBlandperson just before he gets chandeliered, and the bride-to-be's sister has a line about how she had no idea she was "married to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" (in reference to her own husband cheating on her)

The horror movie music stings are still funny (oh my god, Harry Hamlin has a gun and a bag full of cash! The crazy brother has all kinds of tattoos, that must mean he's a murderer! HUNTER JENNINGS IS CALLING!!!)

The only thing worthwhile about sitting through this was Katlie Cassidy.

Ah yes, Katie Cassidy aka Trish Wellington. I felt bad for her when they made her try and give a believable reaction to seeing her dad lying on the floor with his head/upper body split in two. Bit above the old pay grade there.

On rewatch, I'd say the actors for Cal, Shane, Sully, and Henry were all ok. And the show does turn into quite a ruthless character bloodbath in the final two episodes, you have to respect that. I liked some of psycho Henry's lines like "I wanted to give you a good wedding" and "you never should have dogged Trish".

Wish there were more TV shows trying to do the Ten Little Indians thing. It's just such a fun concept, even when the execution kinda sucks like Harper's.
