And Apple HD version.

Looks to be an amazingly entertaining summer blockbuster.

And here we go...

It's true, this looks incredibly stupid. Wolverine's plot is going to make more sense.
Yes, and the backbone of every good episode of the original Trek was it's logical storytelling.
I'm not sold on Quinto, but it looks FUN, which the recent films have not been. That includes First Contact. The borg queen/data stuff was ok - I'm guessing that was Ron Moore's main contribution - but the 'comedy' was really, really lame. Vulcans listening to 50s rock'n'roll with a drunk old guy crap dancing is not funny.
I thought the trailer was great, actually, and I've been skeptical about this one from the start. Michael Giacchino's music, especially, was awesome. One minor misgiving - I don't remember space as having that much junk in it.
I agree on the Music. I am LOVING every bit of music that has been released.
Music was awesome. I'm gonna see it.

Oh god, the loyal Trekkies are going to hate this so much.

Honestly, we saw the original trailer for this at Imax before Watchmen yesterday and both my missus and her bestie (a looooong way from geeks, let alone Trekkies) both liked the look of it - the fact that theyre fans of Urban (they think he's dreamy), Pegg and Bana helps no end.

If I knew for a fact that it was a true reboot and wasn't trying to involve alternate timelines, dimension jumps or had anything to do with what had come before in Trek OS canon, I reckon I'd convince them to go pretty easily.

...and if the Trek franchise wants to exist in any capacity, let alone continue or even succeed, it needs non-Trekkies like them.

Well it looks a lot better than the previous 4 movies, and really, what exactly was so clever about those!

But I see the point from a Star Trek fan's perspective, that it seems totally detached from the original intent and spirit of TOS and I respect that.

Personally, I look forward to a fun and entertaining space adventure, this time with some decent spectacle.
It looks pretty spectacular.

It looks nothing like a Star Trek film.

And Devin's gotta love how underlined the whole "It's your destiny to be captain" thing is.

Still, it's got a ton of energy, and this is this first trailer where I've bought nearly every actor in their role.
This looks more like a deadly-serious fascist Robert Heinlein STARSHIP TROOPERS than Roddenberry's STAR TREK. Liked the music though.
Wasn't that the Batman Begins music?
Not even close.

Exactly. Seems people don't remember how bad most of the Trek movies were. All but one of the Next Gen films were HORRIFIC, so how anyone can take issue with what JJ's doing is beyond me. It's like eating plates of dog shit for a decade and then being offered what looks like a tasty steak and turning your nose up because it's medium, and you wanted rare.
Another 'yes' vote for the music right here. Wow... Michael Giacchino is good at what he does. I don't always go for movie score soundtracks but if this one keeps it up I'm definitely going to go and track it down.

For the movie itself, yeah it looks pretty entertaining and I'm actually excited to go see it. I guess final judgement as to how much it feels like Star Trek will be for later, but it looks pretty good to me toherwise.

Two snippets... After Uhura says " I hope you know what you're doing" and it cuts to Kirk saying "So do I"... now I'm no expert or anything, but the way Pine looked right there was the most 'Kirk' I can recall him being. Looked pretty spot on... in that, uh, one second or so... uh, yeah.

And the whole "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another life" bit leads me to think that there may be some wackiness going on (but wasn't that a given at this point?)

Overall, it's a solid trailer that is put together VERY well. And the music only serves to elevate it.

When the second trailer premiered in front of Quantum of Solace, the audience I was with got totally into it. And when the title appeared at the very end, I heard a couple of people say, "That was Star Trek?!?"

I sympathize with the fans who hate that Abrams is tinkering around with the "time-travel resulting in reboot continuity" crap. But dammit if I'm not looking forward to this film, and I'm a Trek fan myself.

I want to see more of Bana before I commit to this movie, but that was a pretty great trailer.

It may look like a tasty steak, but the smell of dog shit is heavy in the air. I have no reason to believe that this story is going to be at all better then the last few abysmal Trek movies.
Check out the suave salute he gives Uhura! Young Kirk has much to learn.
When he gets older he'll realize that all he has to do is GRAB women and start SEDUCING.

That doesn't mean the movie can't be better. Whether it will be or not is yet to be seen, but I have a REALLY hard time seeing this movie be worse than Insurrection or Nemesis. In my book this 2 minute trailer was better than those movies.
Most movies are better than Insurrection and Nemesis.
That was definitely the best trailer out of all this summer's blockbusters so far.
Not a bad trailer, other than the fact that THE SHIP IS STILL BUILT ON LAND.

Fuck you, J.J. Abram$!
The planet imploding was pretty cool. I liked Nero's "other life" line. And that's pretty much it.

I too hate the "Commanding the Enterprise is your Destiney" stuff. When Kirk sat down in the Apple Bridge's command chair and the music swelled...that's pretty much where it lost me.

None of those things should have been in the trailer.

If anyone cares, the runtime for this movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Really? that's pretty damn decent.
Yeah, I've maintained that if they were going to go down the classic Trek road again, they should've just done a full reboot and cut all ties...I mean, putting Leonard Nimoy in this thing, no matter how short his screen time, sure as hell isn't doing Quinto any favors.

This trailer's almost made me a believer in Bana's part, though, just with the three or four lines he has. I'm exceptionally glad he's not another mannered Trek antagonist.
Great music. All the action of the past films, usually the bad ones, but again, is this Star Trek? Show me the Kirk/Spock/Bones interactions and then we might have something. Yes, we know it's a summer blockbuster filled with ridiculous action pieces and Eric Bana being awesome, but like that Terminator trailer...is there a soul here?
There's still some crap going on, but it looks pretty decent for my tastes.

And even a couple of Nero lines I liked, although he's still a bit spotty at times. Fire everything? Bitch, please.

It's not Giacchino's music.

Actually it's very close, because it's designed to be. It's a production library piece called "Freedom Fighters." It's supposed to sound like Zimmer's BATMAN theme.
Didn't sound like it to me at all. And i own the Batman soundtrack.
Have there been any test screenings for this yet?
I'm not going to mention specifics, and I could be wrong, but I think I spotted a huge spoiler in that trailer concerning the fate of Old Spock.

Not the Prince one, Tati.

The bit from 33-40 seconds in sounds pretty identical to Batman Begins' "theme".

I'm a pretty big Trek guy. Got into it from 'T.N.G.' on. I've not nearly as much time for the original crew as I do for some of what followed. If this was going to hue very closely (tonally, stylistically, etc) to any of the movies or series episodes featuring the original crew, I wouldn't be nearly as interested as I am with the route taken this time 'round. I love that Abrams isn't treating this as an exercise in handling Star Trek with cotton wool. All but the most myopic Trekkies would admit this is what was needed. The results speak for themselves. It looks a cut above your G.I. Joe's (looking forward to that) and I'm really excited it's only a few months away.

Also, I'm starting to get really pissed off with all the lame, second-hand criticism being thrown at this thing too. All the jokes about the way the bridge looks, the arc of the story, and so on got old some time ago.
As a skeptical-about-this-movie huge Trekkie, I think this is pretty damn sweet.

BTW, someone on AICN said the music comes from the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Never was a fan, so I don't know how accurate that is.

Well if that piece of music is an old tune and someone know where I can get it, please let me know.

The music firm is Two Steps from Hell, if that helps your search.
I like this trailer much better. It moves. I can live without the destiny BS, but atleast they're trying to erase that horrible kid from my memory.

That's not just any planet either. Probably the most spoilerish shot in the whole trailer...

Which I thought was absolutely fantastic. Probably one of the most exhilarating trailers I've seen in a while. And enough can't be said about that incredible "Freedom Fighters" music cue. Thanks for the tip on that, Banks. I'm gonna track it down today.

This is the first time I've been even remotely excited about JJ TREK. But it's interesting that certain people think that this might be breaking the TREK mold when plotwise, it seems like it's pretty much a fusion of the last four movies.

By the way, they had the new Enterprise miniature on display at the Arclight last night (along with WATCHMEN costumes.) It looks a lot better in person but those buxom nacelles are still pretty wack.

You're telling me! When I saw that, I had to rewind it to be sure and yep, I was right.

I've been on the fence at best about most of what I've seen (and yes I do think it is dumb and a not-good sign that the ship is built on land, prepare to defend yourself, LeFors!) but yeah, this trailer seems to work pretty well.

Sets up the basic conflict for Kirk and actually makes you care about the character (amazing what a few lines from Bruce Greenwood can do), shows you who else is in it, has enough 'splosions and xtreme sportz to lure the rabble, and has a nice tease in the James T. Kirk was a great man" line (although maybe not the smartest sentiment to drop in, out of context, in your reboot of a once-beloved original).

And yes, the music (stop showing off Banks) was fantastic.

J.J. Abrams?

More like J.J. GAYBRAM$!!

(Amirite, guys?)

Excellent trailer, finally managed to dispel the "It looks like a fucking Spy Kids movie" sense that the colour scheme and set design had instilled in me.

Epic soundtrack too. Looks rather snazzy.
Amazing trailer. Well, it's the 1st time I'm looking forward to a Star Trek product, so there's that. Not sure how good it will be, but I will pay to see this.
