Looking forward to this one. I really dig the Sly Cooper games and could use another 3rd person superhero game done right.

It looks like what The Force Unleashed should have been.
Finally, the story of El Guapo!

I kid. Between this and Prototype, it seems the videogame industry is finally getting one of those coincidentally similar-ish projects that pop up in the film industry from time to time. Prototype looks a bit more interesting to me but Sucker Punch is a really solid (and underrated) developer. Anyone remember Rocket: Robot On Wheels for the N64?

Whoopie was a pain in my ass.
Those graphics look fucking phenomenal! But the gameplay has got nothing on Prototype,as far as I'm concerned. That's not to say it doesn't look good. It's just that Prototype looks positively orgasmic.

Prototype is a lot more ridiculous, for sure. The guy in inFamous doesn't have any powers besides electricity, I don't believe. You can still scale any building in the game and get around but it's more realistic that way. Prototype lets you consume people. I wasn't too taken with the (early) demo I tried at the NYCC, although you do get to elbow drop a tank. So, it's got that going for it.
Prototype was developed Radical Entertainment, right? The same guys that did Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction(elbow-drop came from there Alex),which in my opinion,is one of the all-time greatest superhero games ever made. So yeah, I think we're good hands with that one.

What will be my first PS3 game purchase! Will it be this!

Oh, the suspense!
Although I was initially hyped for Prototype - a handful of playtest reviews confirmed my worst fears - that it's essentially a free-roamer in the vein of Mercs. Hilarious for a while but lacking any substance beyond the explosions. It'd get tiring very quickly. I've heard far better things about inFamous even though conceptually I don't think that much of it.

I think the preview for it was the first thing I ever downloaded on the PSN when I first got my PS3.

Also, morality's the industry buzzword at the moment eh?

I know infamous is single player only, but does prototype have co-op or multiplayer? Cause hilarity can last for months in a Saints Row 2 style game.
There was talk of it early in development, but most places say the feature's been axed. Potential post-launch patch is the usual talk (as with any game).

Co-op shouldn't be a luxury anymore - more games should have it, but its devs trying to cut production time and all the problems associated with multiplayer.

Primarily, I seem to notice it being cut out of PS3 exclusives.

inFamous is the first PS3 game i've seen it dropped from - and it has nothing to do with being a PS3 game, it's been a long development from the get-go and I suspect it's a game that wont quite translate to co-op in the same way Prototype would.

Which is also co-op free.

Resistance 2, Haze and LittleBigPlanet all promised and gave co-op. It's the studio - not the format that dictates these things.

You would hardly expect Epic or Valve to phone in and say they cant afford time to develop a feature like co-op - but most of these other studios aren't exactly major.

Killzone 2. Prototype. Killzone 2. inFamous. Killzone 2.
Killzone 2 never had co-op. Prototype is not exclusive.
I'm pretty damn excited for this to come out. I mean, it's Sucker Punch! Sly Cooper, people! Prototype looks like big dumb fun, but inFamous (and what's with the goofy capitalization?) looks fulfilling.

Who directed that last video, Zack Snyder?

It looks fun, but I wonder about the ultimate variety. Both in terms of the character's powers and how fun it's going to be to use them and in the enemies.

I don't suppose any of you preordered this, huh? You get the demo before everyone if you did. I'm downloading it right now, should have impressions up in a bit.
Can't wait to hear from you on this. I downloaded the new PS3 trailer video yesterday, and it's looking better and better. I'm interested in how big the "three sprawling islands" really are, because exploration might really make this for me. The combat still looks kinda underwhelming.
The only reason I know about this game is because Amon Tobin is doing the soundtrack. Incase you didnt know, Amon Tobin's soundtrack for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is the best game soundtrack ever.

I'm really digging this, for the record. Article is coming! It's a really long friggin' demo- it's got more stuff to do in it than any in recent memory.
I'm excited to give the demo a try but I'm not preordering the game (even to get into the Uncharted 2 MP Beta) so I'll just have to wait until the demo is widely available to give it a go.

What I've seen lately though is making the game look more interesting but I don't know if I'll be able to deal with the really obtuse moral choices I've seen demonstrated so far.

How big was the city - or did they cordon it off for the demo?

Didn't seem cordoned off. I explored quite a bit- there are some collectibles on it that I'm trying to find right now in my third playthrough.

I keep finding out new things as I play. If you jump in a pool of water you get electrocuted and make a really funny, pained face.
So, Alex. Gonna have any demo codes to hand out to people, you know, like Sony ought to do to promote the damn game?

'Cause the 2 Gamestops nearest me had no idea about early demo entry if I preordered but knew all about the Uncharted 2 beta.

I've been reading that the free-running stuff feels very much like an Assassin's Creed with the auto pilot turned off which sounds wonderful to me. Your thoughts?

Asked about the demo codes, my good man... no reply just yet. I'll definitely hook all you guys up first if I do.

As for the free running, that's a pretty good description I suppose. It takes a lot of getting used to, because when you run and jump you don't always end up where you expect. It's more realistic, so you won't be able to grab onto everything you expect. It's harder to navigate than Crackdown, but then again your guy can't do gigantic jumps and such so it works.

It's pretty nifty being able to latch onto trees and light poles. Also, when you jump on top of something you can't easily fall off, thankfully- because you end up on a lot of tiny perches and it would be a bitch.

Combat's pretty fun once you start chaining together all the powers, but it's simplistic.

Still, the demo's fun enough for me to go back and explore once more. There seems to be a bunch of little things scattered around like the orbs from Crackdown so there's incentive to look around.

Ah hah... so the little glowy things you find around the world are Blast Shards- collect enough of them and you get another "battery core", basically another point of energy to store and use for your heavy attacks.

The regular lightning bolts and hover doesn't seem to use your stored electricity, for anyone worrying about constantly recharging yourself. Just the big attacks suck up juice.

Another thing I'm realizing I'm loving about this is the architecture it allows you to climb. There's a lot of interesting stuff out there- just found this gigantic piece of corporate art (or something) that was basically a gigantic gyroscope, and I climbed to the top and spun around for a while.
Sign me up for sure. Very excited.
Thanks for the impressions, Alex. Sounds great. I was a bit worried that the combat would make it incredibly simple, but the "ammo" mechanic making it so you have to recharge sounds perfect.
I played it and enjoyed it. The running is extremely sensitive so hopefully it's fixed in the final version.

Still, gliding over the city is fun. And throwing sticky bombs is great.
preordered it from my movie gallery store, but we don't have any preorder codes yet. we seem to be behind the times in the game ordering department, but we did advertise demo codes. maybe we'll email em or something. anyway, the game looks great, demo or no I'm anxious to play it.
9.2 on IGN, FWIW. Wonder how big the city is in comparison to something like Crackdown.
Wow, if this thing ends up consistently getting getting 9.0's or so I'll have to start strongly considering purchasing it.

Of course, it's probably just the typical "favorable reviews get to break the embargo" type thing.
It's especially suspicious when IGN does it.
IGN's reviews aren't worth the non-existant paper they're written on.

This coming from someone who quite likes the look of this game and wants it to be good.

I'll let it be reviewed by someone here before I consider it. Over to you fellas!
Yea Ign give high scores a little more liberally, however, I still think this is going to be an excellent game, the gameplay just looks like it will be better than Prototype. Sucker Punch and the Sly Cooper games were always underrated, I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
Really digging this so far. I like it better than Crackdown, because the animations for the free running are fantastic. Combat is NOT easy; you may have cool electrical powers but if you get swarmed by six guys, you might be fucked.

Mechanics any different than the demo?
I didn't play the demo, but I'd expect not. I've got the first third of the city entirely cleared out, and I've done about 15 primary story missions.
Just got the sorta Iron Man-like hand and foot thrusters. Cole and I said 'oh, hell yes' at exactly the same time.
I don't think I have ever heard Russ this excited about a game ever. This must be good.
Played the demo today, and I must say, this game is fun so far. I died a couple times and the mission picked up where I left off, it didn't make me restart from the beginning. I know Overlord will appreciate that. I only used a few of Cole's powers, but they were cool. I liked sticking the electric bombs on the enemies.
Yeah, Russ is like one of the most jaded gamers I've stumbled across. Compared to him, Alex has epileptic fits playing most games.

So, Infamous is awesome, ay? Looks like a first day purchase.
Is the demo on PSN right now?
I think you can only get the demo if you have the code you get for pre-ordering it. I believe its out for everyone thursday.
I got a demo code for pre-ordering the game. The demo comes out this Thursday.
