Cool, good one, thanks for the review.
Yeah, definitely enjoyed the review Trevor. I'm disappointed that the story isn't better and that the decisions don't really have more impact but I still can't hardly wait to play the game.
Yea the single most disappointing element would have to be the lack of karmic influence on the story, its a surprising miss from sunker punch, but the little I have played is pretty awesome.
Thanks, guys.

It's great fun. The weird thing about the story: it's bad. Like, objectively bad, derivative stuff. But it's done with a charming flair that's kind of endearing.
Trevor I trust your review so much more than GS or IGN, can't help but feel they have a vested interest in these reviews, and you're completely correct about the completely generic storyline, it seems as though the developers wanted the game to be stripped down, to be obvious and on the nose, as evidenced by the uninspired story and the cut and dry moral choices. I guess they didn't want to make anything ambigous, I guess this is borne from a desire to make it as accessible as possible. Can't help but feel this game could've been more, in anycase its the first of the year I'm bothering to play, which menas I like it a lot.
Even though the cut and dry moral choices seem forced, the more I've been playing the game the less this has been bothering me, its similar to the manner in which you choose between good and bad in Bioshock, which no one seemed bothered by.
The karma thing is just as stupid in Bioshock, but most people overlooked it because they liked the atmosphere and story.
Well thats just it, when you consider the frivilous story of Infamous, and the unharmonious cutscenes, the silly karma element fits into the game without it being too jarring or detrimental to the story or experience, while in Bioshock a game with a more nuanced and fluid story and gameplay, its more disconcerting, at least thats been my experience with it.
Here's what I like about the karma system - the periodic choices you make seem to be much more heavily weighted than your in game behavior. Approaching the end of island two - and I've made all good choices so far. I'm up to 'Hero.'

But during missions I'm a maniac - slinging grenades and hammer rockets with abandon. I usually blow up as many civilians as I do bad guys, but they still cheer me on.

Just finished the prison mish on island two - that was an intense, fun one.

Best mission of the game: The Dustmen tower. I haven't felt vertigo like that since Jedi Knight.
Man this game is long, when will I gain the ability to float through air? And whats the next good ps3 exclusive to come out?
I forget just when you get that but it sure makes exploring and shard collection much easier.

Upcoming PS3 exclusives? This year - Uncharted 2. Next year - God of War 3. There are others.

Frankly I look forward to an exclusive free future where we simply download our games onto whatever comp/console we have.
Yea I wonder how Onlive is going to pan out, I don't think it'll make consoles absolete anytime soon, but the potential is incredible, the gaming landscape could be completely changed this year. The promise of games with virtually no hardware limitations is what excites me the most, I can't imagine the madness that will be created.

Just did that mission this arvo (gotta love those lazy Sundays!) . . . and 'tis the truth you tell, sir. I started feeling really fucking nauseous from about halfway up onwards. Especially when you had to leap to a rusty girder and the whole thing creaks when you land on it. Fuck that creak.

Can someone please help me? I'm stuck on this one mission where we have to go into the prison to keep some dude safe. There's an eletrified platform, and you are supposed to keep someone safe from dustmen. There is a blue dot on the map to indicate where one should go and its smack in the middle of the eletrified platform in the prison. But when I go there, there is no one to keep safe, and no enemies come. I just stand there like a dumbass. Its annoying me much, any one got answers? Cheers.

Use your electrical powers.

To do what?
You're job is to fight off the waves of dustmen so they can't break into the prison and rescue Alden. Alden himself is being held prisoner inside the prison (offscreen, so to speak). Just use your powers to clobber everything that comes through the prison walls into the prison yard. Stay on the electrified platform as long as possible to stay recharged. At some point you'll probably have to move. Keep in mind there's a second electrified platform to your left in the prison yard.

It sounds like you're not able to trigger the start of the battle. Not sure what to suggest.

Edit: In mid battle you're tasked with climbing to the top of the prison to recharge the generator on the roof (to keep the prison's power on that's containing Alden). Did you clear the first wave but are failing to climb to the roof, perhaps?

Exactly. Use your electrical powers.

Man there is no first wave. No enemies at all, like you said for some reason the battle is just not being triggered. I walk into the prison and its completely empty. I've waited and explored for quite sometime to no avail.

I'm getting fairly fed up with it. It's a cool game but this is really hampering the experience.
So this game is really fun. I've barely advanced the story because I'm so entertained by picking up blast shards and clearing sections of the first island. But when the hell to I get to grind the power lines and train rails? It's boring as hell walking a power line like a tightrope.
I'm pretty sure you don't get that power until you go to the second island and start restarting a few generators ... but it'll be worth it.
Soon!
Okay, I'll have to start doing more story missions then. I just finished blowing up the Reaper tanker that was pumping black goop into the water lines. It looks like this stuff will be a threat for the rest of the game since it appears to limit the amount of power I have. I hope Zeke has a handy remedy.
Jumping in the water remedies the "black goop" ailment.
Yeah, Amazon has inFamous for $45 so once I can manage to quit buying crappy $20 games. I'm playing Bionic Commando now which I'm actually quite enjoying (for a flawed game with an interesting mechanic) and next is 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand but after that ....

You get yourself healed from the black goop limitations when you follow the storyline and change to a different day. Although Trevor might be right ... you can try dying to fix it as well.
Haha, the very next mission I played unlocked rail-riding. Wheeee!

I am going to assume the Nemesis guy is John, who has been magically turned white through the power of Evil.
Pretty awesome. I don't like it more than Prototype, though...YET.
When I finally beat inFamous I just couldn't compare it to Prototype anymore. They're open world sandbox games with super abilities, but it's two completely different takes. inFamous is a million times more polished than Prototype, which I think ultimately led to me loving inFamous a lot, and forgiving the heavy handed moral mechanic.
Just finished InFamous myself and while I enjoyed it, there were still plenty of frustrating things. The most frustrating being the crappy height Cole could get on his jumps. A bit more air time would have made navigating the city much faster.

I did have the game crash on me several times mid-mission and it was quite annoying. And pretty much every side character in the game was annoying. I noticed a couple times pedestrians would sometimes run up to me and start pointing and saying that someone stole their phone, like I care about your friggin' phone. And to those guys who tried to command me to take the listening devices off their apartment building: Just get a ladder and a screwdriver, jerkface.

I did love pretty much any segment that gave me unlimited electrical power though. I had no idea what was going on in those sections as I unleashed a torrent of electrical destruction.
I should probably get back to playing this. I just got to the slum part after dicking around with other stuff.
blasted console exclusives..
I've got a 360 but no PS3, so I've got Prototype, which I giggle with every time.
But dammit, I want InFamous too!
Late to the party but just finished this (as a Hero). Really quite enjoyed it and though the idea of the ending is pretty damn good the way it's handled sort of annoyed me (SPOILERS) Throwing time travel in there seemed just like an afterthought, but I would've been far more receptive to the idea had it hinted at it during some points in the game (John's audio logs would've been a great place to mention it). Indeed if it did mention it then I completely missed it. Still, it gets me excited for what comes next at any rate(END SPOILERS).

I agree with the morality thing, I don't know why games insist on using it when the only choice you really have is being a paragon of virtue (Thanks Fallout) or a complete and utter fucker. I've no doubt that a game will come out that finally makes this stuff work, but I wish it would come sooner rather than later.
Dragon Age: Origins has a fairly robust and thought-provoking morality, as far as these things go.

I had a blast with Infamous. My only complaint - I beat it just after beating Assassin's Creed, which had a much better building climbing system. In AC you just sort of 'aim' your guy up the building and off he goes - more fun than spamming the jump button.

You'll enjoy the replay as an evil guy - your powers become much more destructive. I think I blew up more cars as red Cole than in all my years of playing GTA.

I just started now again on hard. I'll leave my 'good' playthrough for the rest of the shards/other trophies.

Quick question though, I started the game and switched to hard mode as soon as I could, will I still get the trophy for that as it doesn't allow you to alter the difficulty at the beginning.
