Breaking Bad Season 2.

Breaking Bad was my favourite piece of filmed entertainment from 2008. Just found out that Season 2 starts tonight. Thought I'd start the thread so those who love it can gather together and discuss this most awesome of television shows.

This show is pure greatness. Bryan Cranston is probably the single best actor on TV right now.

It was never shown down here but a few peeps I know managed to get hold of it and give it a day in court. All and sundry thought it was the best TV show to come out of the States for years. It's like a grungy alternative to Weeds or something. Was frustrated by the seemingly limited run of the first series so am quite ecstatic to learn we get a full 13 eps for this season.
Can't wait.

Tivo'd the AMC marathon on Friday night. Just finished ep 4 of the first season. Cranston's Emmy was richly deserved.
Am I the only one a little pissed that there is no AMC HD? I would love to be enjoying this in HD.
Holy shit. That was some premiere.
Yeah, that was awesome. Didn't expect things to escalate so fast. This show doesn't waste any time with pointless exposition.
Yeah, it was great. Raymond Cruz is nuts in this.

"Make sure you get the stump in there."

The more Dean Norris the better.
After devouring this show over the course of the weekend, I am now completely caught up. What an incredible show. You can make a strong case that AMC has the two best cable dramas on right now. Whoda thunk it?
Amazing episode, and yes, it does piss me off that I can't watch it in HD. I have the same problem with FX shows.

I really need to know more people who watch this, because this show is fantastic.
Fucking great episode. And Cranston directed it!
Now The Wire and The Shield are over, this is officially the best show on TV.
It's a fantastic show in every aspect, and I'm always surprised at how funny it is.
Just seen episode 2, you guys are gunna fucking love it
post #15 of 213
Cranston is insane in this. He's just amazing. His 2 scenes calculating the money he needed and then how to kill Tucco and the amount of bullets, were incredible. He plays brilliant, brilliantly.

There is an AMC HD. I've never seen the show in anything but HD.

Tuco scares the crap out of me. I don't think that was Tuco out in front of Walt's house though. Pretty sure that was the guys from Juarez.
Holy fucking shit. This show is so fucking good.
The first episode probably should've been the season one finale, and today's episode should've been the first episode of season two. Like Verbal Kint said, things escalate so quickly on this show, and that's why I love it so much. The story really moves, unlike so much popular television. I'm the only person I know (in person) that doesn't really like Lost and hates Heroes, and so much of it comes down to the over-arching plot unraveling so slowly.

What a great non-speaking turn from Mark Margolis. Him and his bell added so much tension to those scenes.
Beat me to the punch on Margolis, Molt. With that mug, he doesn't need to talk to have great presence.

Have the people who run the show ever said if there's a plan for how long they'd like the series to last? Obviously it's possible to stretch out a year of Walt's life for more than 2 or 3 seasons, but given that he's been dying from day one it seems like it might rob his death of some of its imminence to give Breaking Bad a more standard run.

What an incredible scene. I love how they packed in the tension not just into the short-term with Walt and Jesse's situation but the long-term of what will happen when they turn up after having gone missing.
Incredibly tense. Great episode. And I laughed like a fool with those final bell dings. I kinda feel bad, but it was a great way to release all the tension.
Yeah, utterly fantastic. Great end to Tuco (I was really sweating when Jesse and Walt left him to bleed out) and I really liked Hank's scenes this week.

Am I the only one with a sneaking suspicion on the ending of the show? So far there's only one way I see it ending which makes sense to me.

Frankie Muniz cameo? Absolutely.
You and I park our cars in the same garage, A-Pathetic.

I'd put my suspicions down as a spoiler, but unfortunately I'm too much of a simpleton to figure out the spoiler tags. If my suspicions are right I don't want to post them where people can get mad at me.

Unlike you, you bastard. If he shows up I'm hunting you down.
Told you you'd love episode 2. But then with this show that's not much of a prediction.
Great Great episode. So tense.
Dean Norris for president
Boy did I crack up when I heard that bell.

I couldn't believe he was back! Didn't think we'd ever see him again. Jesse certainly didn't think so. Fucking great yet again. This show is rolling. Hank continues to fucking kill every scene he's in.
Does Walt tell his wife next week?
I only got a chance to watch half the episode last night, I'll watch the rest tonight. The more I watch this, the more I beat myself up for getting on the train so late and the more dumbfounded I am that it seems like nobody is watching this.
Finished it last night. Seemed to be a "catch your breath" episode which they really needed after such a crazy start. Good episode for Jesse.
Jeez, Jesse really hit low. I was a bit surprised to see his life disintegrate so quickly.
The little touches really make this show for me. Enjoyed the three seconds Walt spent deciding what to do with the leftover stack of cash.
About time we got more time with Jesse, Walter gets almost all of the attention (He's a fantastic character and a terrific actor is playing him), it's nice to start to flesh out the rest of the cast.

"Why are you blue?" The timing on that killed me.

Fantastic stuff. Easily the best thing on T.V. at the moment. Jesse's descent into shitfulness was glorious. The argument between Walt and his wife was perfectly handled.
Have tried to get people into this and for some reason they can't even be bothered. Boo!
The more you see how much Walt is damaging his family the harder this is to watch. I can't stop watching, but that argument was brutal.

I somehow get the feeling that Jesse had better keep that mobile home moving. That redneck mechanic didn't look like somebody to mess with.

At any rate, I want to try to use the spoiler thing to put my guess for the show ending:

Walt alienates his family enough that his wife leaves him, and as everything is falling apart around him Hank also catches up to him and arrests him. At the same time all of this is happening, Walt is finding out that he has miraculously beat the cancer. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
That would be kinda cheap. To twist it that way.

I much rather have him die as he is supposed to at the end.
There has to be a result of his actions though. I see no way this doesn't end tragically. There are certainly other tragic options though.
The thing is, is I think some of what you post will happen sooner rather than later. He's already gone beyond the point of no return with regards to his family.
Even if he doesn't cook anymore they don't respect or trust him.

Vince Gilligan has said the overall arc of the show is how you go from pathetic everyman to drug kingpin. Since he says it in a ton of interviews I don't think it's really a spoiler, it's more about the journey.
I'd love a bottle of Schraderbräu for my mantle.

Actually that kind of is a spoiler, though not one I particularly begrudge you sharing if he's as open about that direction as you say.

If this episode is any indication, that's the place they seem to be taking Walt, and I have to say for me it has the potential to disappoint a little bit.

What I found interesting about Walt was his vulnerability, his desperation; that this was a guy who worked multiple jobs, did his best for his family, and he was still getting fucked in the ass by the system. Not that they can't keep that angle intact on some level while doing the other thing, but I definitely don't want his arc to be dominated by something familiar-- like rising in the criminal underworld at the expense of his family and humanity.
Well, they keep driving that wedge between he and his wife further and further. He's already gotten to the point that he's no longer doing things for the supposedly noble reasons he began doing them. His anger with his situation in life is completely coloring his relationship with Jesse now.
God it's hard to watch Walt trying to wiggle his way through his lies. Obviously we don't know the background with Gretchen but they've done everything to make it look like Walt is completely in the wrong and it's only his pride at this point which is the issue.
Watching Walt transform into this "drug kingpin" is so disturbing. It's no longer a matter of survival for him or trying to provide for his family. He's clearly relishing the lies, the manipulations, hurting others, and using Jesse as his monster-by-proxy (which is funny since Jesse is far more human and clearly has a bigger heart than Walt).
Even seeing the "ATM crush" coming a mile away didn't lessen the impact. In fact, it may have heightened it.

How old was that little kid? Fairly outstanding work from him.

Looking forward to seeing Trejo next week.
Had they already explained that Walt felt his former partners had screwed him over? If so, I'd missed it. Such an important detail; which puts everything in a more understandable context. Not just turning down the money in favor of such a high-risk scheme, but also how quickly he's traded in his desperation for cold calculation and bitterness.

Next week promises the perfect addition to the cast.

I recall it being just hinted at in the first season. This was the first time Walt out and out stated that he felt he got gyped.
The difference between Season 1 when they went to the party and were offered the treatment money no strings attached (as well as a nice high paying job for Walt) to last episode is night and day though. Gretchen has been shown as nothing but a genuine nice person so far, and her shock at how Walt perceived things and how she remembers them happening makes it look like this is nothing but Walt warping the truth to validate his actions.

I couldn't help but think last night when Walt got home and Sky was telling him that they were "cutting off" the money (which was a brilliant way to not betray Walt and yet try to force his hand btw) that Walt had an opportunity to almost tell the truth. He could have told Sky that his resentment over being screwed over boiled over and he said something to Gretchen and words were exchanged. Instead, he went the route that of course made it look like he'd done nothing wrong.
