Breaking Bad Season 2. - Page 5

Wow. What a bizarre ending. I'm actually grateful that it was something that unpredictable because it balanced out the foreseeable conclusion of Skyler leaving Walter. I also loved how this finale was about the ripples that this seemingly mild-mannered and nothing man has wrought through the explosive combination of his darkest tendencies. Just unbelievable stuff.

Did Walt decide to grow some chin whiskers after seeing how awesome it looked on Saul's equally bald cleaner friend?

From the Gilligan interview:

I want to start with the ending, with the planes colliding over Walt's house. When I saw that the season premiere was called "Seven Thirty-Seven," my initial thought was, "Well, this must have something to do with an airliner." And then instead it turns out to be the amount he thinks he needs to leave behind for Skyler. But now we have an actual 737, or something like it, crashing in Walt's backyard. Was that intentional?

Yes it is. And you are the first person to make that connection. Not only that, but if you look at the names of all the episodes, in particular the episodes that have the strange black and white teaser, they spell out a hidden message.

What's that?

Seven Thirty-Seven Down Over ABQ.

Wow. That's cool.

We came up with the number $737,000 dollars, then we reverse-engineered the math. And then the next episode where you have the same black and white teaser, it was called "Down."
I can't decide if this is brilliant or goofy. Still, this was one of the best seasons of TV I've seen.

Brilliantly goofy, maybe? I loved it. Ending the season with Walt's world crashing down both mentally and physically works for me (in spite of how it completely defies any sense of subtlety) because of what has come before it.

I love it when TV goes crazy. Just does something totally out of the blue and surprises you. Of all shows, Breaking Bad not only has the quality to pull it off, but has totally earned the right to attempt this kind of thing. It was brilliant, especially that shot as the bear/"camera" falls from the sky and spirals round to show the explosion, just wonderfully done. And it's not some stupid shock ending that comes out of nowhere and makes no sense, the story built up to that moment on a literal and thematic level. Most shows can't even aspire to that kind of thinking.

Bravo, Gilligan and crew.

Ballsy move. I am not sure if this is a "Aging Pill" disaster or a "Grenade from a friend" stroke of genius.

I loved it. The whole season was fantastic and proof that the writing on AMC is stellar. This and Mad Men are the best shows on Tv right now.

Mr Los Pollos won't like that his brother in law is in the DEA and all the attention...
Can't wait!

I'm pretty sure Mr. Los Pollos already knew, unless he's the least cautious cautious drug dealer on the planet.

Holy fuck that ending was trippy, but brilliant.

That was my thinking. We've been shown already that Gus takes zero chances, and we're supposed to think he didn't know about Hank somehow? No way. If anything, the existence of Hank actually protects Walt because Gus is so cautious he would do anything to keep Hank from digging.

I thought I had the ending figured out as soon as we saw where Q worked. Every one of his scenes I was desperately trying to keep track of the different planes and the elevations that he was giving to them. There was just way too much focus on him and his job for it not to matter. I did feel some measure of relief once I'd decided they were going to Donnie Darko it though because I actually started to feel stress at the black and white open this time. I'd gotten myself to a point where I desperately didn't want to see who was under the sheets as we've all been believing it would be people we knew. That's a testament to how good this show really is.

There was just a shitload of amazing acting this episode. Walt sitting on the couch during the interview and having to listen to his son talk about how his Dad is his hero was amazing. Q seeing the ambulance in front of his daughter's apartment was amazing. Jesse breaking down in the flop house was amazing. Sky confronting Walt was amazing. This really is one of my favorite seasons of any show ever.

That was awesome. Agreed with Dr Murder: it's terrific when a show pulls of something bat shit nuts that actually works within context. Walt has fucked up so much of so many peoples lives with this, death is now raining, literally, from the sky.
Now that this is over and Lost is out for the year and Galactica is finished, I have nothing else to watch.
Sadness.

As people circle this thread sounding depressed that all their favourite TV is done, may I recommend you devour the entire run of Burn Notice? With S3 starting tonight now is the best time!
