The game is decent, but I wouldn't call it a must-buy, maybe a must-rent. There be miniscule spoilers ahead, since this is the equivilant of a post-release thread
Pros:
-After a little while I actually didn't notice the controls that felt so crippling in the demo. They might still be a generation behind, but they won't hinder your ability to carve a path of destruction across Africa. You also pick up the inventory management really quick after a few heated battles, and it becomes second nature, if still a bit unintuitive
-It was great to see some new environments & locations apart from the standard Castle/Mansion, destroyed buildings, and underground lab-ohhh wait.. scratch that last one. We get swamps, oil refineries, shipyards, fights on speedboats, a freaking volcano..
-Gorgeous graphics. So so stunning. The cinematics are really well done as well (though I guess RE always nails this)
-To help with inventory management, after levels/deaths you get the menu screen where you can upgrade and swap around all your equipment or even store stuff you don't need for the time being in the off-character inventory. The best thing about this is that you get the screen every time you die, so suddenly a boss shows up and wrecks your shit, when you reload the fight you can ditch your empty pistol and take the grenade launcher you had sitting in storage.
Cons:
-Remeber when these games had puzzles and other things to do? There's only one puzzle I can think of in this game (bouncing lasers), and you have to do 4 times in a row. And then its back to run and gun status quo
-All the 'partner' spots feel so contrived. Did Umbrella really make every door in their labs with two entry panels that need to be pressed similtaneously to open? Does every scientist have a 'buddy' and they work in pairs? Same with the African villagers? Sheeva will also spend your ammo like its burning a whole in her bandolier - don't trust her with more than a pistol and rifle.
-The big "twist" reveal 3/4 of the way through the game is painfully obvious by about the 4 minute mark
-Boss fights are extremely repetitive. Oh my god, whats that big writhing tentacled mass of ooze and flesh? Oh wait, he has the same orange orbs on his arms as the last 3 bosses.. I bet I have to set him on fire and then shoot those, again. And again. Every boss. Even the last boss is this same fight, only they MOVED THE ORBS TO HIS CHEST AND BACK! WHOAA CAPCOM
