Chris Cornell - Scream - Page 2

I like being an optimist. Cautiously excited for this.

Now, if someone would kindly get Rage Against The Machine back in a studio, and remind Maynard Keenan which band of his actually matters, I will be in quite the musical happy place.

That is to say, 1996.

Oddly enough, as much as I love Rage, I'd actually be happier if those guys find meaningful next projects, at least De La Rocha and Morello. I still need to grab "One Day as a Lion".

After the atrocity that was 10,000 Days and resulting tour (Oh sitting on the stage between the last song and an "encore"...HOW EDGY!), I think Maynard would be better off as a winemaker in Jerome.

10,000 Days wasnt an atrocity. It's just that, for all intents and purposes, that CD may as well not have music on it after Rosetta Stoned.

You're absolutely right, of anything that AIC or Soundgarden have done this is the one album I can really consider great. The one that ironically back then many fans considered their "sell-out" album because Black Hole Sun was slow and Cornell cut his hair. One of the great videos of all time too!

I forgot to mention Rage... so goddamned good. I loved them back then and I still don't think I gave them enough credit. As for Tool, I also loved them back then and they completely lost me in the albums after Aenima. For all the praise Maynard gets, he only does two things with his voice and his vocal stylings make everything sound the same to me. I've even gone back and tried to listen to the later stuff again on occasions but it's just not for me. Interesting time signatures, boring vocals.

BTW... does anyone realize that there are 18 year olds (ADULTS) that are only vaguely or not at all familiar with anything we've discussed in this thread? When did I become an adult? I just don't seem to remember that happening at all.

Shit man, we're almost at the 20th year anniversary of Nevermind. This august will be the 20th anniversary of Ritual de lo Habitual, an album arguably just as important as Nevermind.

Respectfully JC, that record was boring. It wasn't about songs anymore it was four white guys showing off. On Lateralus they balanced in-your-face-technique with songwriting and with 10k Days the balance was lost. The record was just boring; it wasn't compelling at all. Vicarious being the only exception in my mind.
