What with the critical success of In The Loop, Four Lions and now this, it's warming my heart to see some of the giants of UK comedy finally getting some long-overdue love from the US.

I'm way over the zombie thing, but Dead Set does sound promising.
DEAD SET is amazing. Really bleak with some great moments of comedy.

Brooker is fantastic though and his .....wipe shows are fantastic. He's also one of the writers who worked with Chris Morris on the fantastic Brass Eye and Nathan Barley.

What's also great about the show is that he works with some great people. At the moment he's working with Doug Stanhope but last season he had a few mini documentaries by Adam Curtis who is amazing, including this one by Adam Curtis

I laughed more at "Milk? Milk? Lemonade?" than I logically should at my age.

I still love the Vice Magazine article (NOT SAFE FOR WORK, TITS AND STUFF IN SOME OF THE PICTURES) about the Gathering of the Juggalos. It's oddly even-keeled, considering just how sad the surroundings were. But yeah, definitely a movement that still deserves to be mocked.

Especially the guy at the bus stop last week in a button-down shirt, slacks, and a big-ass Hatchet Man chain around his neck.

Oh, thank you, Jake! Thank you, thank you, 1000000000X, thank you for that! Made my afternoon.

Here's a bizarre nugget of movie trivia:

The song that's playing when George Clooney meets Jermey Davies in Solaris is "The Riddle Box".

Ask MurderThugNuttz, he'll tell you that muthafuckin knowledge is on da 4 reallyz bich u know how we do.

No offense to the editorial content hereabouts, but wasn't "Watch This Now" originally going to highlight movies available online? It's been nothing but web sketch comedy lately. Was there some kind of legal issue?

Pretty sure readers were staying away from the feature-length stuff in droves.
Seriously? That's fucking sad.

I love her and Beyonce, dressed up by mid-80s pro wrestlers, dancing in a diner full of the corpses of the people they just poisoned. So fucking gloriously weird.

Are those customised adverts on the laptop and mobile phone screens?

That's more surreal than anything else in that video.

I love me some Lady Gaga, she is strange but brilliant.

Yeah. It's kinda weird how I've done a complete 180 on her, but I went from "CHRIST THIS MUSIC IS AWFUL" to "CHRIST THIS MUSIC IS STILL AWFUL BUT I CAN APPRECIATE WHAT SHE'S DOING" to "CHRIST THIS MUSIC ISN'T ANY MORE AWFUL THAN OTHER POP RADIO FARE AND I CAN APPRECIATE WHAT SHE'S DOING" to "CHRIST AT LEAST SHE'S NOT KE$HA".

I think she looks like she's Sacha Baron Cohen's next character.

ETA: I just noticed her recipe for poison includes 1 cup of Tiberium. That's awesome.

I was enjoying it, then the "super reused" gimmick happens and I was like "yeah, sure, that's a good way to use it."

Then the OTHER thing happened. I literally lept out of my chair and circled the room going "SON OF A BITCH!" four or five times.

They played it before the screening tonight and it absolutely KILLED. People shouting and screaming and going "OHHHH!!!" I thought it was decent at home but it really was enjoyable with a packed audience.

Plus, there's a quick little reference to the film in The Square. (Film was great, by the way!)

I realize that this feature appears to be more or less dead now but I wanted any Tom Waits fans out there (The Rain Dog? Anyone?) to know that the long out of print and kinda hard to see concert film Big Time is available on Netflix

Tom Waits is releasing a 78 RPM LP and a record player with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band on November 19. Check out his site. The man is sick!

I saw that a couple of days ago. Rhino is also rereleasing his original Asylum recordings on nice, fat vinyl. Yayz!

Last night I had fuck all going on after a funeral so I went to fearnet.com (like you do) to see what was shaking in their free movie section. Lo and behold, they had the orginal, Spanish language [Rec] up and streaming. Only one commercial at the beginning for the Mick Garris interview show. I have not seen Quarantine, the US remake, but I must confess a genuine fondness for the original. Go figure. It's another of those "found footage" movies everyone hates now. I'm not the biggest fan of this particular narrative device but there were some really good jump scares in there that made me draw back from my screen and the final 15 minutes or so contain a creepy atmosphere I was not really expecting from this "bugaboo in the dark" movie. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
