Same Night Movie Review

Thread Starter
My room-mate of several years and I decided that there weren't enough on-line videos, so one day several years ago, we happened upon a way to talk about movies that wasn't just talking heads and footage: putting alcohol into the mix.

The name (now somewhat obsolete) comes from the fact that we used to watch, write, shoot, edit and post a review all in one day. However, since things got more complicated (with what we hope is a parallel increase in quality), we've largely lost the 'same night' criteria. Plus, we find that giving the movies days to sit with us, we're likely to come up with better reasons to dislike/like it completely.

What I guess I'm trying to say is: hey! Look at us! Our latest one for 'Watchmen' was just posted and I hope that you can find some humor in it.

Watchmen Review

We also have a (poorly managed, but will be upgraded soon) website that features, bios, fake posters, some miscellaneous videos and a back catalogue of written reviews: Same Night Movie Review

As well as a facebook page and a MySpace page for blog entries and written reviews, which has a rather sizable list.

Other youtubed videos:

Push
Sex and the City
Iron Man

Super high rez versions can be found at the main site if you're a technical nerd.

Wow, that was a bit longer than I anticipated. Well, that's what I do that keeps me sane, I hope some of you can find something to like in it. I'll update this page whenever a new one pops up.

Holy shit.

ETA: That was a Dre-Post, so let me clarify. When you (or your friend) were dressed like Rorshach, I thought you were embarrassing yourself in a huge way. Then Dr. Manhattan showed up, and I couldn't stop laughing. Then, once the actual sketch started, I realised that that was the joke. Then when the sketch turned out to be pretty funny, I had tremendous respect for what you did.

At each step, I said to myself, "Holy shit."

I'll preface this first by challenging the first person who says 'that is so not the same night' to a fight and I can guarantee you'll lose. But! After a long, long, very long edit that kept us up at nights, we finished off the latest review: STAR TREK!

Two things to take away: one) never, ever shoot an all green screen anything unless you're unemployed, because you won't be getting any sleep if you're working a regular job. Two) yes, I suppose you could say the entire review is just a convoluted way of showing off my room-mate's birthday present.

Enjoy folks.

I just watched the Watchmen one. Terrific stuff. The squid farmer had me laughing.

I love these! Keep 'em coming!

Great work Doc. I loved the space battle between the USS Same Night and the Romulan Ship Norelco.

Just watched the Star Trek Review. Lotta fun. Lotta energy, too! Tremendous accent work from Captain McWhippit. Loved the banter exchange, "death sentence", and Red Matter joke at the end. Well done, Doc!

No new major videos to add. Been a slow year on account of work, lack thereof, a major site overhaul coming before Christmas and relationship things prying us away from quality movie going/making time, however, it being December, I get all sorts of nostalgic for the things that have come before, such as the Awards show we did that got ridiculously out of hand and ended up becoming a mini-movie of in-jokes, banter, video games and blatantly lifted shenanigans. Took us until the beginning of next year's Oscar season until we finally finished it.

But! In case you missed it (and I bet you did!), here are the Same Night Movie Review 2007 Golden Shot Awards!

Because of some truly boneheaded decisions early on, we've been stuck with a shitty ass iWeb website that half functions. We are currently in the process of cleaning that shit up and getting ourselves legitimate, but in the meantime, we have a few tricks up our sleeve, like: a PODCAST!

ETA: now with a downloadable version and as soon as approval comes, an iTunes version!

Our Year in Review show, an hour long! No, we can't get it to iTunes because apparently h264 is some kind of evil conniving bitch and fucks up our picture. Consider this a test run! Enjoy folks!

Crazy seeing pics of you with long hair.

Also, you have a big ass living room. Nice.

Tonight, Tuesday, I finally have a night to myself. Why am I happy? Because if it's not the podcast we've been working on, it's the DAYBREAKERS review we've been working on until 4 in the god damn morning.

Enjoy one, enjoy all!

Well, I suppose taking 6 months off to go walking in the woods can screw up your schedule juuuuuust a tad. Anyways, in addition to a boatload of new written stuff, we just posted a somewhat late to the party 2010 Comic Con Video. Informative? Perhaps not, but I hope you find it entertaining.

Hello, folks! New year, new beginnings, I suppose. We're taking a slightly different approach to our shtick and ixnaying the video portion to put things up on a more regular basis. Oh yeah, we have a radio show, and our first show is tonight @ 9 PM.

Same Night Tonight!

We'll be covering the same ground every one else does, what with the oscars, but I guarantee we will be slightly more inebriated than 95% of those fools.

We've been doing some little one offs recently. No big in depth epic storyline reviews, but cute little rants and vids about this or that as they pertain to movies. Latest one is taken from our radio show, and involves my co-host ranting on that giant bullseye of a human being, Justin Bieber.

Hmmm...video embed is down, here're the links:

Tune in tomorrow night for more!

Our friend in the Bronx is a sound tech and has graciously let us use his facilities every Tuesday night @ 9PM where we broadcast an hour(ish) long internet radio show. Basically, it's a podcast with a little more order to it, we have music and a schedule and commercials (mostly for 80s toys and cartoons). We cover largely the same things done on the video reviews, but sadly without video. We talk movie news, box office, relevant information, showcase some fun little Netflix gem, and oh yeah, review movies, too. We are even blessed with having some talented and artistic friends who come on and let us know about their works and hopefully spread the word.

Of course, there is much, much drinking. We end every show with some form of quiz show/drinking game that is film related.

Last Tuesday's episode #7: Hammer Needs A Slot, Justine

Here's the back catalogue:

Episode #1: Gelato's Milk and Eggs, Bitch

Episode #2: Evil Will Always Triumph Because Good is Dumb featuring NYC author Steven Van Patten

Episode #3: We Don't Need No Stinkin' Badgers now with 100% more estrogen. The romantic comedy episode...sorta.

Episode #4: Spores, Molds and Fungus Hail to the chief, he's the chief and he needs hailing.

Episode #5: Clever Girl with independent filmmaker Marty Buccafusco.

Episode #6: History Bugger Shit, Shit all about the Academy Awards

It's a fun diversion. Give a listen if you have a moment.

Late to the party on this one. Video review of Sucker Punch, we radically switched up the format. What do you think?

I'm into it Doc. The background visuals are sweet, the girl going nuts with the guns cracked me up and so did "Work as a team" coming after that perfect pause, and you pull off that ADD turbo presenting style very well.

Actually, that's my former room-mate/co-host doing the fast-talking! I'm the "work as a team" guy. Glad you dug it, Bucho!

We just posted a new one for Thor, a few days late and yes, I know, the name...but damn if it didn't take a while, and we have one more coming up by the end of the week. Enjoy the fake hammery goodness all.

The radio show, Same Night Tonight, is back up with a few upgrades. We got video now, and unfortunately, a lot more god damn ads. Regardless, 3 cameras is like...2 more than most video shows, so we're feeling pretty good. Check out the newest episode and be sure to tune in every Tuesday, now at 8PM! Final show hitting iTunes sometime next week!

Episode 201

Enjoy!

Well, it's about being shameless, so I will say, tomorrow night at 8pm on the show, we have film director J.C. Khoury on to promote the VOD release of his excellent indie rom-com The Pill (review here). Caught it last year at Gen Arts Fest and it's freakish how close to the bone, feeling wise, it gets to a lot of my friends (and myself, too). Plus, the lead actor totally looks like a young Tommy Carcetti.

If this interests you, tune in tomorrow, 8pm at www.samenighttonight.com, the show will be up on iTunes the next day. The pill is available on both iTunes and Amazon for download and is well worth it.
