The Stand

I seem to remember there being a King thread, but I can't find it. I was looking for some input on The Stand. I just bought the uncut version from a used bookstore, and was wondering what the prefered version was, which do you recomomend reading? etc

Interesting premise. Pity it descends into a shaggy god story. Bloated, too.

Always read uncut.

I don't know which I read(it's been a while), but the chapter where the spreading of the plague is explained is amazing. Rad book, but yeah, let down a bit where things end up.

Time to share my shame:

I've been about two hundred pages away from the end of this book for about a year now.

The group had left for Las Vegas, I ran into a long stretch where I couldn't read for about two weeks and I haven't picked it up again.

Time to do so.

EDIT: I was reading the uncut version.

I read the uncut, i hadn't read the original beforehand so i don't know if the added content is essential or not. King does mention in the introduction why this cut exists and i think most of it is just small character moments that he wanted to include.

I thought it was a good read but not great, like with most of King's books its the characters that kept me turning the page instead of the circumstances, however having read quite a few King's books now you do find that he endears most of his characters with the same traits and boy, does he love a good retard.

I enjoyed the epilogue to this one concerning Flagg.

Yeah the Uncut is all character stuff. The whole 'Trashcan man' and 'The Kid' was excised from the original.
