MacGuyver and Q together in a Wild Wild West/Brisco County type series...

LEGEND
Ernest Pratt, a dime-store novelist in the old west, lives with his scientist friend Professor Janos Bartok in the small town of Sheridan, Colorado. The people of Sheridan mistakenly believe that Pratt--a drinker, gambler, and womanizer--is the audacious and pure hero of his novels, Nicodemus Legend. Bartok and his associate, Ramos, convince Pratt to assume the Legend persona while supplying him with Legend-like futuristic gadgets that they invent. Together, Bartok and the reluctant Pratt (as Legend), adventure throughout the west solving mysteries, capturing wrong-doers, and even making scientific discoveries.

I'm all for Time Trax.

No mention of the eternal Sports Night?

I got the series on DVD and then the 10th anniversary set was announced. I might have to Netflix the features disc.

Anyone remember Early Edition?

Loved this show. Four seasons isn't exactly short but I remember this show being jerked around some. Kyle Chandler can't catch a break.

Fortune Hunter
The weekly adventures of former British agent Carlton Dial, who now works for a private corporation called Intercept, which is in the business of recovering stolen property. Dial uses the latest in technological gadgetry to complete his missions, and relies on his nerdy partner Harry Flask for help from headquarters.

Actually saw them do some filming on this at Universal.

'Wizards and Warriors', anyone? This was goofy in a 'Hawk the Slayer' kind of way.

Was "Profit" a genre show? If so, it turns out I don't know what "genre" means.
I was going to mention 'Profit' earlier, but I didn't consider it a genre show. Regardless, it's definitely worth finding.
genre - n, a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like.

I vote "yes" on Profit, if it didn't launch the anti-hero creep "genre" (shows like Nip/Tuck, Damages, Boston Legal) it was at least a precursor.

Holy crap, Bill Bixby directed some of those (and episodes of SLEDGEHAMMER!). Jeff Conaway??? LOL

A clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCj1S...eature=related

In this case, I define "genre" as action/scifi/horror/fantasy/superhero, as in "genre entertainment" (stuff that Starlog or Cinescape magazine would have covered back in the day), and not the general use of the term, but I'm not strict.

Good call on 'Strange Luck'. That was one of the few shows my mom and I would watch every week. I think she had a crush on D.B. Sweeney. And I really wanted the nickname 'Chance' after watching it.

How about Seven Days, the show about a cocky, arrogant frat boy government agent who is enlisted in a top secret project where he can travel back in time seven days and correct a mistake. Who cares about plot holes and paradoxes? Not me! I was too focused on the super hot girl with the sexy accent.

I enjoyed VOYAGERS as a kid, but I know it'd be awful today.

We do have a new V series coming next year, soon to enjoy the original V series on this list!

And DAY BREAK is a legitimately good time. It's also dirt cheap on DVD, and has an actual ending (rare for this list). Of everything mentioned, it's probably the only one that fits the category that I'd recommend.

Most of these shows wouldn't hold up on a second viewing (although the V miniseries do), FARSCAPE lasted 90+ hours, and anyone who missed ROME has poor awesome-dar.

Judas Booth, BrianM, I concur about...Wizards and Warriors...it was cancelled too soon.

I never realized that Jacques Renault was the strongest man in the kingdom in Wizards and Warriors. Plus that show looks about a thousand times less shitty when you are 11 years old.

Speaking of UPN, there was also Jake 2.0. which was created by the guy who created the US version of Ugly Betty.

There was also another UPN show that had video game characters come out of a corrupted game and fuck shit up. Christopher Lloyd played the bad guy.

Dude, they have an episode for this show titled The Unicorn of Death. That is so cool.

I have ZERO desire to watch any clips of 'Wizards and Warriors' on youtube or elsewhere. I don't want to ruin my memories of watching it when I was but a wee lad, playing AD&D. I have zero doubt in my mind that it would suck BIG time.

That was a great one. Do you remember the episode where the twins stayed eternally young because their mother placed them in a giant tupperware container every night?
A final thought on 'Wizards and Warriors': we all knew that it was a pretty cheesy show, but it was D&D on primetime TV so we HAD to watch it. A far superior D&D show was the actual 'Dungeons and Dragons' cartoon on Saturday mornings. THAT was a cartoon that cancelled WAAAAAY too early.

I do, that was crazy. Then there was this odd revival of the series on FOX about ten years later shown on Saturday Mornings.

What about Misfits of Science? Although I'm sure Courtney Cox would like to forget about it. Still, it had some pretty funny opening credits.
Of all the show named, I truly miss Brimstone the most.

Although Space: Above and Beyond and Dark Skies were really good too.
Reasonable Doubts and Mister Sterling.

Also: Police Squad! What I wouldn't give for just a full season of that show instead of just six episodes.

Cover Up, an action series where the hero, (Jon-Erik Hexum and followed by Anthony Hamilton), his photographer gal pal (Jennifer O'Neill) go undercover with a bevy of beautiful, bombshells, who go into trouble spots around the world...to rescue those in need. Bonnie Tyler supplied the song for the opening credits...Holding Out For A Hero.

Another fave of mine was actually an annual event. Battle Of The Network Stars. It was truly original...actors from the 3 major network would appear in an athletic competition which included the obstacle course, Tug Of War, relay races, and my personal fave...The Dunk Tank. On this program, Gabe Kaplan beat...Robert Conrad in the obstacle course, something that nobody watching expected as Conrad looked like an athlete, while Kaplan, did not. Kaplan had to endure many insults by Conrad as he was very macho as well. The Dunk Tank featured a bevy of beauties including...Lynda Carter, Heather Locklear, Heather Thomas, Erin Grey etc. Howard Cosel was the MC, and it was a goofy, fun, competition, seemingly always broadcast on ABC.

Just discovered Gerry Anderson's SPACE PRECINCT (1994).

Wow. Totally up my alley.

Gerry Anderson also teamed up with Cosgrove Hall (Wind in the Willows, Danger Mouse, Duckula) to make LAVENDER CASTLE.

Earth 2 was one of my favorite shows when it was on. Really sad it ended so quickly. I've got it on DVD...should probably watch it again sometime. Also, SeaQuest DSV was the shit back in the day. Still love that show.

FreakyLinks (originally titled "Fearsum" until a few months before airing) was developed by Haxan, creators of the film The Blair Witch Project, and screenwriter David S. Goyer.
Like X-Files meets The Lost Tapes meets Ghost Hunters.

Out of all the shows mentioned, I think "Journeyman" is the one that hurts the most. It looked like it was just starting to gel when it was cut down.

Count me as one of those folks who doesn't want to revisit Wizards and Warriors. The version of the show in my mind is so much better than what it probably really is.

Edit: Also, Daybreak was fucking awesome. I watched it last year and loved that it had an honest to goodness ending.

It repeats every now and then on Sci-fi channel or Chiller, can't remember which. Ethan Embry is quite fun in the lead, and yeah the "found footage" bits feel very much like Lost Tapes. Show was made for cryptozoophile types (heh, think I just made up a word)

Seconding Cupid and Karen Sisco, though I'm not sure either qualifies as the sort of 'genre' we're talking about here. Space Precinct, that's more like it.

Also loved 7 Days until it completely fell apart. Some of the disaster scenarios from Season 1 were eerily prophetic. And ummmm Dr. Vukovich.

Pretty sure I'm the only person who saw all six episodes of Mercy Point. Think Babylon 5 meets ER. Plus it starred Joe Morton.

I'm embarassed to admit that until about a year and a half ago I'd never seen Firefly.

This is the most disturbing thread in this entire forum, but that's mainly because my sister owns bootlegs of nearly all these shows. That woman loves her some bootlegs.

M.A.N.T.I.S. has been mentioned right? I loved that show as a kid and just saw it on Netflix Instant (did not add to my queue though).

And maybe someone can help; does anyone remember an awful show from the early 90s about a guy who is one of the first astronauts on Mars and he comes back and uses his space suit to fight crime? I always think it's M.A.N.T.I.S. but I'm pretty sure there were no trips to Mars on that show.

I would KILL for a full season of Harsh Realm. I've watched the DVD set about 3 or 4 times.

D.B. Sweeney was great on that, so hopefully I can track down Strange Luck someday. I was watching Fox religiously around that time, enough to have taped all the Profit episodes that aired, but somehow I missed that one.

Profit, too, is still 100% awesome on DVD. If they had gone on for more episodes, maybe they could have even topped the fucked-upness of the episode with the psychotherapist. I personally still think Profit is way better than 99% of the "dark" "adult" dramas currently on TV and cable. They struck the perfect balance of having an almost completely amoral lead that you somehow still root for. Dexter can blow me.

American Gothic was also awesome, got that on DVD recently. Gary Cole made one of the most memorable TV characters I've seen in a while. It did go downhill a bit when they replaced Dr.Drunk with Dr.Bland. That was just...terrible. Still, 3/4 of the season is pure aces, but by the time they stumbled to the end, and after the inexplicable Sheriff Buck romance storyline, I didn't much care to see another season even if there was one.

SUPER FORCE.

I watched the intro. The music and the actors don't ring a bell but the "gritty" setting and super suit are totally pinging my nostalgia nerve. This is kind of crazy and awesome. You are some sort of magician.

Omg!  I forgot this show even existed.  Man, it's old school.  I remember it being kinda weird.  Didn't he used to kinda fly/hoover around by using aerosol cans?  What was that about?

This threads an awesome cocktail of nostalgia and terrible mixed in equal parts.

Didn't know that Carrie Ann Moss was in a MATRIX TV Show didn't you?
