Better Off Ted - ABC

New show by the guy who did "Andy Richter Controls the Universe." Started tonight, right before "Lost."

I dug it. It's kinda grim, it's really absurd and Portia de Rosa is awesome.
I agree. It had some pretty warped humor in it, but that's the kind I like. I'm going to give it a chance.
I don't know. It's not bad, but I felt it tried too hard to be quirky.
It had some decently funny parts but it did seem to try a bit hard. Plus I kept thinking of office space because they kept playing the music from office space.

The main guy is also no Jason Bateman. I can't see him suddenly being funny.
Premiere episodes always tend to be trying too hard ("Look how quirky we all are! Har!"), but I laughed several times, and there may be some potential there. I'll give it a few eps and see where it goes.

Finding the right tone wrt lampooning corporate America will be a challenge for this show. Yes, people aren't feeling very charitable towards those with money and power, prime targets for satire. At the same time, we might not necessarily want to make them all of them just quirky and fuzzy.
I'll watch if it continues to come on before Lost. It's head and shoulders better than anything on Kath and Kim.
Yeah, most of ABC's line-up is painful to sit through. And that's just the promos. It makes the commercial breaks during Lost unusually aggravating.
Did anyone else think it finished really abruptly? Like my download missed the post-credits sequence or something.

Had a couple of decent laughs, worth sticking with. The lab guys could have some good banter, and Lindsay Bluth Funke was good.

Still dig it.

Who the hell keeps taking all the creamer?

Ants? No. Ghosts? No. I don't know.

And de Rosa is definitely doing something to make tingly, what with her corporate mistress/ice queen being just fucking great. "I love saying my name, too. Verrrrrrroniccca."
Tastes like... despair.

I'm in, and it's a weirdly perfect lead-in for Lost.
I still like this show quite a bit, but I don't see it lasting.

"Veridian Dynamics. We're a family, just like yours. But we don't have time to throw leaves around."
It can only be a matter of time before this show offends a real-life corporate sponsor. Some of the projects depicted are frighteningly plausible.
Harrington's line about the meat blob getting a mouth last week was one of my favourite comedy lines this season. One of those lines that gets funnier the more you think about it.

Weakest one so far this week, but still charmingly oddball. Loved the kids as workers.

Also, I'd have this as my avatar if I weren't solemnly sworn to being a doctor

I continue to love this show. It reminds me a lot of The Middleman. Maybe because I know it's just a matter of time before BOT gets canned, too. So many great lines last night.

The...bunny...will..........cuddle everything within a 2 mile radius.

Daughter of Ted.

I said "watch" her, not "wash" her.

...Even the dead ones, and we're even working to bring them back and clone them so you can be with them for ever.

Veridian Dynamics. Family. Yay.

I was actually disappointed when a "commercial" didn't air last night at the beginning. Those are so pitch perfect, I love 'em. Reminds me of the commercials Six Feet Under did...for like 2 episodes.
This show is quickly coming into its own and becoming kind of hilarious. It has no chance of lasting, right?
The shows fairly funny, you can see the roots of the Andy Richter show, but I think Better of Ted is far less entertaining, the main guy in BOT is just trying too hard.

I loved ARCTU, but I just can't get into this.
I'd like it better if Ted were a completely heartless corporate bastard.
Best ep so far. "My white guy sucks!"

Maybe I just find racism funny, but this episode murdered me. And the best line wasn't even said! Although, "Penisly speaking," was pretty great. When they walked past the water fountain, double taked and saw what it said, MANUAL DRINKING FOUNTAIN (FOR BLACKS), I lost my shit. I can't believe they got away with that. It hurt, I laughed so hard.

And those commercials, I swear, those have to be parts of real corporate videos, just with goofy voice over. Diversity. Good For Us.

We all got free white guys!

What? Operation: White Shadow not working out for you?

Veridian to Black People: We See You.
Best episode so far. So many LOL moments.

Sure to be canceled soon.
I thought this was pretty funny. The creator of the show had a Veridian Dynamics commercial made to poke fun at the presidential address replacing the show. Not as funny as "You cant spell Individual with Veridian...and an L...and a U" but I liked it.
Countdown to clueless wingnut websites posting that commercial in 3... 2...
If it gets more people to watch the show, bring on the (nielsen family) wingnuts.

By the way, that video is gold.

This delightfully absurd show is back with a new episode tomorrow and then 5 more new episodes plus, I believe, the previously aired episodes during the summer.

It's a fantastic, weird, kinda mean show that you should be watching, especially the racist security system episode which is deliriously funny.
I love this show so much, and even if it's a vague riff on 'Lindsey Bluth' Portia De Rossi is easily the best thing in the show. Her and Ted's daughter firing employees was one of my favourite bits of the show, although the racist security system and the hired white guys was awesome.
Thanks for the heads-up, MD!
yeah, I'll have to make sure my TiVo is getting these episodes. The promos didn't sell it as actually being funny but when I actually ended up watching an episode it was great.
Sweet. Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea there were going to be some summer episodes of this.
"I used to feed my sister when she was asleep so she wouldn't be thinner than me."
Hilarious ep this week.

Rossi shooting the couch.

Also, "He has more problems than you do, and you poop in your air."

And "I've emptied the stomach of the woman I love."
I was re-watching the episode and just realized that "Lem and Phil" is a pun.

The sneeze/headbutt was incredible. As was Victoria shooting the balls out of a pillow. "Ted, you're a guest here. I can't have you freaking out every time I pull out a gun."

And the fish's name was MacGuyver. Sweet.
Gotta love Lem and Phil. This is a great show. Full on belly laughs!
Just caught up with Tuesday's double-header. Highlight: confident Phil. Also: the Plove.
Yeah, I loved those last two eps. Looking forward to a new season. The fake commercials are just amazing.

Season 2 starts tonight!
This got renewed?
Yeah, and that's great for everyone since the show is hilarious.

Hell yes, son. I think it only got renewed because Scrubs did. ALL HAIL SCRUBS!

We spent most of the day at work yesterday laughing about the racist episode. (For Blacks).

So somebody I know watched about 10 minutes of the show and declared that it was "formulaic" and "not funny". I'm considering not associating with them anymore.
Yeah, Taye Diggs saying that he dresses up as a bear and looks for roots and berries is so formulaic.
I didn't realize how much I missed it til it was back. Love it.

Did I miss it or did they drop the Veridian commercial? It's too bad if they did.
This was the sixth episode produced, so it probably didn't have an ad as all the other previous episodes did and this one just happened to take a week off. They are definitely still there.
