Blind Theater

Anyone experience any play like this one?

It's basically a play performed by a group of blind actors, where they make the theater completely pitch black. And i mean COMPLETELY. THey don't even let you see when you are taking your seat, they guide you to it. And it's not a regular theater, there are basically chairs grouped around an open space. Where the actors will use to move around, sneak behind you and play with sound and distances.

You lose all your visual bearings and the play is acted out relying heavily on sound, with a little bit of smell and touch.

During a scene inside an office, you could smell coffee. Hear typing all over the room and the actors walk around the space completely fucking with your mind. It's amazing.

One of the scenes involved a beach and another one a chinese jungle. Rain, swimming, animals, they were all recreated and you have to imagine the story and what's around you.

The most beautiful moment was when taking a walk at night through the jungle, they arrived at a lake and there were dozens of fireflies. They had water running, wind sound, animal sounds and little lights that they moved around that looked like the fireflies.

A really amazing experience. I fully recommend it if anyone's got the chance of going to one!

That's such a great idea, I love it!

I've never heard of the concept before, I wonder if anyone is doing this in Canada...

Yeah, that's a new one to me. You've described it in a really compelling way, too. I need to look into this....

Thanks, Tati!

Before entering, they do a little speech warning people that if they start freaking out and they can't take being in a completely dark environment with this sound around them, to say a safe word and blind ushers would come to them to take them away.

I thought they were kidding. Not 10 minutes had passed and around 5 people asked to be removed.

Im assuming the actors are not really blind right?

That's the whole point of it. They are all blind.

Why would you assume otherwise?

I just wasn't sure if you meant they were literally blind.

Makes it even more amazing though.

Was this the safe word?

Sounds like a neat idea though.
