Any gamblers here? - Page 6

I thought Justin was bluffin, so I called with K-high. He had a full house.

Not over yet, though.

I am still flabbergasted that Kimbell made THIS CHECK on the river. On the turn, I had actually considered that you might have just made the straight and that's why you slowed way down. But when you checked the river -- while I made trips! -- I figured that money was as good as mine.

And when you raised all-in, my mind immediately went back to you holding 5-7, but I thought there was no way you wouldn't at least value bet it at the end of the hand when you were first to act.

A ridiculously well played hand.

BTW, two weeks in a row now I've busted out holding AK. Guess I gotta stop calling all-ins with that.

Maybe I should have bet the turn on that hand, now that I think about it.

But checking the river was easy, IMO. After you checked the turn, I could assume you didn't have top pair - because top pair would have been obliged to bet, for every reason. So your most likely hands were (a) a busted draw, either flush or straight, and (b) three sixes. Checkraising definitely gets me more money against either of those, so I didn't have to worry, didn't have to "put you on" a hand and go with a "read." It's rare that you get such a clear-cut logical situation in poker, actually.

edit: I'm not getting the right hand from your link.

Last night was the first time I've had a chance to play poker in 3-4 years. Lots of fun, count me in for future tournaments.

Sorry I wasn't there. I went to the real casino, which turned out to be a huge mistake. Took some beats that probably would've had me complaining about cheating online. I'm going to be at my sister's graduation this Sunday too, unfortunately. Don't let it die, James!

I am extremely late reading this thread and do not have a PS account but would like to join in. Someone please PM me the particulars; when / when / how much / etc.

I play cash games and free tournaments at the local bar. Never played PokerStars before but also play free Zynga games online.

Thanks in advance.

James, what's up with the games?

What kind of beats? give us details. In live play it always important to get a read on people before committing to any lesser hand. In real life everyone has some kind of tell.

Middle set vs top set when we were both in the blinds. A guy calling my preflop 3-bet with A10 and making quad tens, leaving my aces the second nuts. Standard stuff, and there was nothing lesser about either hand. I could've gotten off the aces under slightly different conditions, but our stack sizes were pretty small compared to the pot after the preflop reraise/call. I'm not in the business of folding the 2nd nuts in big, heads-up pots, even if in this case it only took a single card to beat me.

I tried to play the WSOP's $1000 "Stimulus Special" Event last weekend, but they had sold out all 6000 seats by the time I got to the Rio. Guess I'll have to try to satellite into the Main Event like all the other internet assholes to make my World Series debut.

Sorry, guys, I was traveling/busy two weekends in a row. Should be good again this time.

Perhaps today would be a good day to get this ball rolling, yes?

I wanna start reaching out to people to play ASAP as I don't wanna go back to 3-5 person tourneys again.

I'm back home this week, so I'm in.
I have poker tonight at the local bar.
I'm in, so long as I have a few hours/a day notice.

Let's get it rolling...

We on for tomorrow night, James?
I just had a major foul-up with pokerstars deposit/cashout system, such that my account currently shows a balance of -$275. Hopefully it will be all sorted out by tomorrow night, but if I don't make it, it's not because I don't want to.

PokerStars eCheck processor is "unavailable" - likely due to some legal snafu or another - right now, so it's probably a reeeeeeeal good idea to put these on hold for a bit.
That echeck thing still hasn't been cleared up, so I find myself with no money in my pokerstars account and unable to deposit any. If anyone I've loaned to has any online bucks to spare, I could use a small floater. Will repay within the week.

I had fun the times I played with some of you Chewers on PokerStars, so I wanted to post this here ...

PokerStars is offering home games now, and I set up a private club a few weeks back for friends and readers of my poker blog. (We're at 11 members.) I figured I'd post the sign-up info for anyone here who might like to play with us. We hold little $5+$0.50 tourneys every Wednesday and Sunday night at 9:30 EST. Once we get enough regular players, we may start running a really-low-stakes cash game on those nights too for tournament outcasts or folks who show up late.

You must have an account at PokerStars to play. The Club ID number is 305589. The invitation code is jacktensuited. All Chewers are welcome.
