Prototype - Page 8

There is a ton more to do in Saints row than just kill people however, it's more in line with GTA San Andrais (which is probably why I love it).
Yeah, Saint's Row 2 is nothing but gore and violence and juvenile humor. I mean it's fun, but let's not try and pretend it's something it isn't.

I don't know about that. It's just that the ways to kill people are more fun and varied. And there's streaking.

I just started going back through Prototype to get a few of the achievements I missed the first time around. I just completed the Web of Intrigue last night, and I was zipping around the city pretty quickly. I went back and forth across the map, methodically looking for the last few targets I had, and I never felt like it was taking forever to get anywhere.
Yep, fully upgraded. I just don't think he moves fast or covers longs distances well. Maybe breaking the city up in inFamous made it seem faster, but I always felt I was blasting across the city there. Here, it feels like I run alongside a building, jump, slowly glidddddddddde...and repeat. As some dude in a basketball jersey so I don't get assfucked by the military. And it never seems fast. Maybe it's because the entire city was open from the beginning, I don't know. I think the buildings are too tall and you don't get enough of a leap off of them.
I'd say it's faster to go jump dash glide dash glide jump repeat. I get across the city pretty fast that way. Also, if you're going across building rooftops or something use more dashes. I have no issue with the speed with which I can get around the city.
Yeah, the game mentions doing jump-->glide-->dash-->glide->dash-->glide in passing. I remember really enjoying that discovery, because the dash alone isn't that substantial.
You guys are talking air dash, right? If so, my bad. I meant dash when I said glide. Yeah, it's run up/side of building, jump, dash, jump, dash, and then glide/fall onto the ground or too short a building and be to close to the ground to get a lot of air. He goes out of the dash/glide too soon and running up a building takes too long. Yeah, it's only like 5-10 seconds, but it could be way faster.

It just seems like a lot of busy work to get across the city and makes it feel tedious to move across. I've saved and turned off the system to avoid going across to get the next mission. It's like Half Life 2 in that manner. I know I only just played 10 minutes but it felt like an hour. Only in HL2's case, I really fucking enjoyed those 10 minutes.

When I want to get somewhere fast, I just run down the street. It saves time in jumping over buildings, and it feels really fast, especially if you jump into the air a little bit and air dash towards the ground. You'll hit the ground at full speed that way, and I actually think it's a little bit faster than what you can get up to by just running alone.
There's many things wrong with Prototype that keep it from being a really great game, but "you move too slow" sure as hell isn't one of those things. That's a ridiculous complaint.

Slogging through the city can be done a lot faster when you just activate a whip arm and steal a helicopter. It's at least twice as fast as you are, and the only way to knock out some of those "go eat these 5 guys" challenges in time.

I never really had a problem getting all the guys in the "consume" events without a helicopter. In fact, I think a helicopter would have just slowed me down. I just made sure to look at the map to semi-plan out a path and just made sure to book it as fast as I could without getting distracted by anything in my way.

On a side note, I am getting pretty close to getting all of the landmark orbs. I've got about 20 of them left, pretty much all concentrated around Times Square. I should be able to get that achievement tonight. However, screw trying to get gold on every single event, let alone platinum. Some of those events are ridiculously difficult to get gold on. I may try to go back and beat the game without dying though.
Getting to all the guys you have to consume is only really a problem when one of them is in the opposite direction to the other guys (one guy to the south of where you start and the 4 others north), even so they can be done.

Polygon, the get gold in all events achievement isn't that bad, there is a certain way to do every event although I agree with you about getting Platinum, fuck that. The complete the game without dying is pretty easy too, just remember to save often.

Finally beat the last guy and let me say that the fight just really highlights the most frustrating part of the controls. I'd like to just stay locked on to the one guy basically the whole fight, but the targeting system uses the analog sticks to change targeting as well so it just becomes a comedy of errors as my attacks get wasted as I accidentally target the wrong guy.

Then, because of the armor suit and having the Muscle Mass equipped, anytime I run near a missile, the thing seems to explode. Even if I do manage to pick it up, they're all right along the edge of the aircraft carrier so I just fall off the edge or get stuck on a railing ... half the time dropping what I was trying to pick up.

I'd go back and play this a bit in a couple weeks but since I'm just renting it I'm happy to just be done with it.

finished this the 2 days ago, giving it a rest before going back to get achievements. Final fight wasn't a problem at all, took me like 3 or 4 tries to kill the guy.

Overall, pretty fun game.
After a bit of trial and error the first time I played through the game, the thing that worked best for me was to use the giant blade, ignore all the missiles on deck, and just throw a flurry of attacks at the guy. If you keep hitting him fairly quickly, he'll get stunned, and you can jump on his back for a bunch of cheap hits. Just make sure to watch out for the big devastator move and grab a few marines to munch on, and the fight isn't too bad. The biggest thing I hate about that fight is the stupid countdown clock that shows up partway through.
That's the thing, I was completely fine until the clock showed up and then it's like you have 1:40 to take a guy out a quarter of the life of a guy it's taken you 10 minutes to take down 3/4. Once the clock shows up, I've then got to get in too close and get destroyed in a minute.

I'll admit that when I did defeat him, it was such a buzzer beater (I literally got the final hit on him as the countdown announcer reached "One") that it made a pretty cool moment but then the cutscene after that was so pointless that it took away from it.
As far as scripted boss fights go, I thought the last one was pretty straightforward. The countdown is a stressor, for sure, but all you need to do is throw in a few devastators and run away from his periodic tentacle attack. He's really not all that mobile.

Still, the boss fights are a low point, as is the aiming system. Scripted boss fights in general always feel so phony.
I had trouble with the last boss until I thought to try something ridiculously simple, namely running up to him with the blade and spamming Y until he was stunned. Worked like a charm and he died very quickly.

That is a much simpler way of saying what I was trying to in my last post.
