A new web-series/talk show hosted by actor/comedian Kevin Pollak that came out of his infatuation with twitter. One of the things that sets this show apart is that it's broadcast live, Sundays at 5 pm PST, and there's a chat room going while the show is going on. Pollak has his laptop next to him, and his crew is fielding questions from the chat room and Twitter to the guests.
The first two episodes were pretty good so far. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's a cross between Dinner for Five, Charlie Rose, and Inside the Actors Studio. Pollak describes it as a "conversation," and that's definitely true -- the guests go on tangents, and both shows have lasted about two hours so far. Pollak does a good job of balancing his own stories with the guests, and the fact that they're shooting in a small studio with some of Pollak's friends gives it a warm, informal charm.
It's funny, too, with Pollak occasionally launching into one of his impressions or mocking one of the chat room members for asking a lame question.
What sets this apart from other talk shows/online podcasts/etc is first, the length of the show and the questions being asked in real time. Pollak's crew act as "chat jockeys" and throw him the best or most interesting question and not the dumb ones. The second that Pollak is enough of a name/has enough connections to get some great guests with some great stories.
he first episode, for example, had Samm Levine talking about the experience of working with Tarantino in some depth and LeVar Burton talking about the new Star Trek movie, the second had Jim Gaffigan talking about his process of developing a routine and Joe Mantenga talking about meeting David Mamet for the first time, etc.
Those were just the first two episodes. According to Pollak on the last one, the following guys will be on or have committed to doing an episode at some point: Christopher McQuarrie, Jon Hamm, John Krasinski, Doug Benson, Bobby Slayton, Jason Antoon, Luke Wilson, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jon Favreau, Rob Cordry, and Hank Azaria. Awesome.
If you cant' get into the chat room or have a shitty connection, episodes are available via iTunes within a day or so.
I like it a lot. I'll be sticking around for as long as it's on.
