2009 New York Yankees discussion

Thread Starter
Going to try and keep this alive all year.

Folks, do a thread and name it accordingly for your team. it'd be great to have all 30 teams repped.

Didn't do a very good job of keeping up with last season after the first couple of weeks - but this year I'm all over it.

Got tickets for May 9th against the Devil Rays. Excited to see a game in the new stadium.

I'm a Yankees fan so I'll just stay right here. I think Teixeira is going to be the AL MVP this year. I think he will thrive under the big city lights and will carry the Yankees for the first month or so without AROD. I think Phil Hughes comes up at some point to be a key contributor in the rotation. And I think Joba will be just fine.

Opening day in Baltimore!!

All things considered I think Sabathia had a rough first inning but a great infield to back him up. Hopefully he'll loosen up in the next couple of innings.

Jesus, CC looks fat and today can't get a breaking ball in the strike zone.
Yeah he's not having a great day - conversely, Texiera is looking good. And Damon seems to be having a really good day. Maybe he'll step up to fill A-Rod's hole until May.

I always though that about AROD but not Damon. So if CC loses his first 2 starts away from Yankee stadium does he get bood if he starts off bad there?

In the time it took me to drive home from the office we scored four runs - pleasant surprise! Wish I could have seen them happen, though.

Maybe, but I hope not. Losing the first two is gonna hurt his confidence, obviously, and not getting that support at home is probably going to really hurt his season.

AHhahahahahaha, Adam Jones' bio pic on ESPN.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/player...ontext=batting

Additionally, CC only tends to struggle when he's putting too much pressure on himself (based on the small Milwaukee sample size and his playoff performances). These first few starts might be a signal of that more than anything.

I know it's only the first game and it's too soon to make any concrete judgements about the season, but the pitching staff is looking rough. No bueno.
Fuck. I know it's only two games into the season, but it's like the Yanks have picked up exactly where they left off from last year. They are inable of doing the little things it takes to win. Moving the runner over. Getting a guy in from third with less than two outs. Making productive outs. In the late 90s this was a strength of the team.

I love that the dude who caught Swisher's homer gave Nick Markakis a "you wanna fuck with me" look.
Hehehehehehehahahaha!

But seriously, nice pitching.

ETA: I was laughing at the score, not at the ump getting cranked in the face.

I'm a bit concerned that if the wind is right, New Yankee Stadium turns into Coors Field Deluxe Edition.
How the mighty have fallen! LOL

I'm a Phillies fan and even though our pitching is looking rough right now, i'm still optimistic about our season. That said, I couldn't be happier that the Yankees are giving up more than most football teams.

Keep it up!

Chien-Ming Wang has an era of 28.93.
Just wanted to drop in and say, "hi."

Hi!

-Tribe Fan

P.S. - I have Wang in one of my fantasy leagues, so it isn't all candy and roses for me today.
Take Wang out of the equation and the Yankees Starters are just fine. Of course the bullpen isn't very good either. The Yanks just need to tread water until AROD gets back. Wang and Dice-K have destroyed my fantasy team. Thank god I dropped Wang before yesterday.
Wow. Suddenly I'm not regretting that I dropped MLB Extra Innings.

Anybody know if you can subscribe to YES on DirecTV if you don't live in NY?
Wouldn't be May without Rivera blowing a save to Boston.

On the other hand, the bullpen has firmed-up the past few days.
When will they come to their senses and stick Joba in the 8th inning role? He's built to be the closer of the future anyway.
He'll be a starter until his ERA rises about 6.00 or Rivera retires.

Except for the playoffs, he'll be the 8th inning guy (unless Wang can't get off the mat).
Phil fucking Hughes to the rescue!

I hope the 7th inning was the Yankees snapping out of whatever funk they were in over the Boston series.
Bitch Tits? Bwahahahahahaha!

Another eight runs last night. Matsui, who I thought looked finished at the start of the year, is coming alive.
