2009 Florida Marlins - The Youngin's Thread

It feels like a Wild Card sort of year for these Marlins, and right as I clicked the link to start this thread Cantu hits a two-run homer. It's only the first game, and the Nationals, but it's a start!

Hm.

Hey! an actual Marlins fan! Nice to see the team start off well. I still think we need a closer. I don't think Lindstrom has enough stuff to get critical outs. At least we still have the offense to bail him out. BTW, Bonifacio is on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!

Damn Mets. We'll get them today though.

I thought your team had plans to leave the state. The hell is this?

They're still battling for a new stadium here in South Florida, and all the while the Marlins have assembled one of the most kick-ass young teams in baseball since the Marlins won the World Series in 2003.

On Tuesday night the Marlins play the Braves and the Heat play the Hawks. If we can somehow convince the Dolphins and Falcons to scrimmage we'd have the hat trick.

In 1997 the Marlins started 8-1 and they ended the series with a World Series trophy. Sure, they're ONLY 6-1 right now, but a boy can dream.

8-1.

Down 6-3 in the 9th and win it 9-6 in the 11th. That was pretty freakin' awesome.

You guys look insane. As a Phillies fan i'm not looking forward to facing you guys.

The team is solid through the line-up, has very good starting pitching, their bullpen is still getting worked on and they're average on defense which is sometimes made up for by their quickness. There is definitely improvement on that end from game to game, though. Whether or not it lasts remains to be seen.

I already have my tickets to the Phillies series. Hopefully we can get our bats on the ball.

ETA: My buddy just reminded me that we're only going to the first game on Friday night because we have tickets for the Heat's home playoff opener on Saturday. What a busy weekend!

Well, the Marlins just scored four runs in the 9th to take the lead and win it. I wonder how many runs they've scored so far in the 9th or final innings this season. It's got to be around 20.

I forgot the Mets game the Marlins lost was at home, so that means the Marlins are 6-0 on the road. Damn.

ETA: It's also the Marlins largest division lead - five games ahead - ever. The humid summer months usually help us out through August, so if we can keep building a lead within the NL East that could carry us until the bullpen is at full strength.

The Pirates? D'oh!

That's two!

That's three!

Sorry guys, but the scrappiest team in baseball strikes again! 6-4 in the top of the 10th.
Way to jinx this. Lidge has been all over the map this season.

ETA: *phew*
Well that was dramatic. Lidge better get his shit together.
Yeah. Extremely close. I'm worried about him. Still a win is a win!

I was at the game last night, but thankfully I was at the Heat game tonight watching them destroy the Hawks. This is NL East karma for us coming from behind in the 9th three straight against the Nats.

That's more like it.

Wow. I unfortunately didn't get to see the game but i'm glad my Phils played batting practice today with the fish. Sweep.

Thank God most of these games were preempted by basketball in my house.

It's been a painful month but the last two days felt good. It's embarrassing how the only games the Marlins sell out are Yankees games. Thankfully they always lose here.

Save for a couple of good defensive plays in the early innings, a rather inconspicuous All-Star Game appearance by Hanley.

The Marlins always turn it on after the All Star break, but God damn Philly! Lose a game will you!?

How about you stop sending up marginal pinch hitters to win games off of my closer who hadn't given up a home run in 47 innings?

Lucky fuck.

Did tonight work better for you?

Bwahahaha!

The Nats?!? C'mon for Christ's sakes.

As John Kruk would squeal: You gotta beat the teams you're suppose to beat!

It's heartbreaking. Hopefully we can get a couple against the Phillies and stay in it.

We're on a five game streak, including a sweep of the Phillies, and all I can think about is how we got swept by the Nationals. God damn it.

Well, I've forgotten about losing to the Nats now that we've lost 4 of 5 and went from 2 back in the Wild Card race to 6 in the span of three days.

It's not looking good.

Big series with the Braves starts today, and then we have the Nats through the weekend. If we're going to make a move it's got to start this week.

Well, it was a positive season. A great start followed by average baseball peppered with moments of brilliance and utter failure. While Hanley was the man -- with or without his diva attitude -- there were plenty of other guys who pulled their weight and can be built upon. There are two games left but I'm in a good mood after beating the Phillies so I'll take it.

Go Detroit.
