Cold, wet and dreary, but a wins a win, especially when the bullpen actually wins a game for Santana for once. It was also nice to see Daniel Murphy start off his first full season in left with a bang.

Yep, the pen did what they were brought in to do. After last seasons late inning adventures, it was pretty strange to see relief pitchers who look like they actually belong in the major leagues.

Hopefully Wright will quit swinging for the fences and go to the opposite field more often, like he used to.

The starting rotation refuses to go deep into games, and Pelfrey’s already suffering from tendinitis, not that I’m worried. *cough*

Daniel Murphy’s bat, on the other hand, continues to look real, Ryan Church’s hot start seems to be keeping Sheffield at bay, and even Luis Castillo is beginning to look like a productive major leaguer. So sure, there is some good news to speak of, but in—by far—the toughest division in the league, one has to wonder how far the Mets can go without getting productive innings from their 2–5 starters.

I’m not liking this brave new world, where Livan Hernandez is the Mets most reliable starter behind Johan Santana.

Amazing what games against the Giants and Pirates can do for your record.

It was bound to happen after last season’s remarkable stretch of health, but the injury bug has just decimated this team:

Position Players:
1B
Carlos Delgado
SS Jose Reyes
CF Carlos Beltran

Starting Pitchers:
SP
Oliver Perez
SP John Maine

Relievers:
RP
JJ Putz
RP Billy Wagner

Honestly, though, if this team ends up closing up shop early, it’ll still be preferable to the past two seasons. I'm already in full fledged let the kids play mode, so here’s hoping Evans, Martinez and Murphy show some progress.

So, now that Nick’s mancrush is on the Mets, does that make him a Mets fan? Do I have to start rooting for the Braves now? So confused.

I figured this list deserved an update:

Position Players:
1B
Carlos Delgado
SS Jose Reyes
SS Alex Cora
3B David Wright
CF Carlos Beltran
RF Jeff Francoeur

Starting Pitchers:
SP
Johan Santana
SP Jonathon Niese
SP Oliver Perez

Relievers:
RP
JJ Putz

The worst bit? There’s nothing to look forward to as all of the Mets top prospects are hurt. Fernando Martinez tore his meniscus and is done for the season, Jonathon Niese tore his hamstring from the bone, and Jenrry Mejia flipped someone the bird so hard he strained his middle finger.

I wonder if they can just hermetically seal K-Rod, Pelfrey and Perez*.

* Wow, between me originally posting this update, and now, Oliver Perez has announced he’s going to get his knee checked out for a possible scope...

Please let us sweep you. We stumbled a bit against the Braves and these games would really help pick up some ground towards staying in the WC discussion.

I'm sure you will sweep us, the Mets are basically a AA team right now.

Asks the fan of the team that’s knocked the Mets out of the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

You'll always have '69.

The Mets rotation is now Pat Misch, Tim Redding, Bobby Parnell, Nelson Figueroa and Mike Pelfrey.
