Hell, I think we should just have a long relief core. Our starters aren't doing so hot, let's switch to a new pitcher every inning or so.

That's reactionary, I know, but the bullpen is just mopping the floor with the starters.
haha, i wish i could say that's a terrible idea right now.

really though, they'll come around. i'm just glad the bats and the bullpen are actively picking up the slack now, they've got some scrap to 'em.
I just got home and turned on the Sox pre-game..and saw the Yankee Score..WTF. Cleveland having its annual laugher at the Yankees expence. New Staduim = New Curse of the Bambino...

Whatever curse befell them those first few games seems to be about gone by now. Stellar starting turn by Masterson and the offense came alive in a huge way as if they were trying to go 'Hey, it was just a fluke!'. Even the big man himself belted a few and was belted himself. The entire city of Boston needed this sweep.

I d like to thank Baltimore for two things: 1-The Wire and 2-What the Orioles did for the Sox this weekend.
3. Ace of Cakes
4. Being the syphilis capital of the world so that other cities don't have to.

I was in New Orleans this weekend but it sure was nice to check in on the Sox every now and then and see them earn a well-deserved sweep.

Now...Minnesota!

Man, fuck nature. I'm so sick of this (not just rain delays, but nice weather for two days followed by four days of shittiness). Doesn't look like that second game will be happening tonight, but hey, we're up 10-1 and Wake's being awesome (again), so I'll take what I can get and savor this rain delay.

EDIT: Oh, that's the final score. Sweet!
Talk about anticlimactic.
holy continued offensive success, batsmen!

YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUKKKKK! And that's why we love the Sox-Yanks rivalry.
When Bay hit that homerun..I swear I heard Yankee Universe start to sing "Blame Canada" from the South Park movie....
It just never gets old! Every time I think this rivalry is getting tired, they start playing and I get sucked right back in.

It's amazing how much hate I can have for a pinstripe. and I love it.

TEK!!!!!!!
The best part about this game (aside from winning, of course), was a line from someone in the stands. During one of Jeter's at-bats, he hits a pretty standard foul ball into the stands. Someone proceeded to yell out "That would've been a home run in your stadium!"

I can't wait until the Sox play in the new stadium.

Sometimes, the best defense is an on-fucking-fire offense. What. A. Game.
These last games both started as games you would expect to see on "Yankee Classics". The Sox offense is full tilt-even without major Papi contributions.

They may want to issues hard hats in the bleachers of the New Yankee Stadium when the Sox visit.
i hope the rest of you guys just saw ellsbury do that.

how ridiculous is this series?? jesus christ

I have never seen anyone steal home before. Jesus Christ, that was brazen, ballsy and awesome.

Sweeping the Yankees? Oh man, I love it when that happens. It's like that rough start never, ever happened.
What momentum. What a series. Can't say no to seeing the Yankees get steamrolled by Boston. I also made fifty bucks off of Lowell's 3-run seventh inning homer in game 2, so that's pretty great. Albaladejo thought he was making the right move by walking Bay, and maybe he was, but the Yankees paid for it in runs anyways. Love it.
I was at Fenway for Saturday's game...and it's probably the best baseball experience of my life. Three of my friends from out of town came (two of them Yankees fans). We had standing room only tickets, but it didn't matter, it was a beautiful day and a beautiful game. Plus, a group of girls left in the 8th inning and offered us their seats so we got to see the last couple from behind home plate.

When Tek hit that grand slam the place went fucking apeshit. ANd Mikey Lowell...I hope he plays baseball forever. It was incredible. What a game...what a series...
Yankee fan letting you how disgusted I am. Since '04, the Sox have done EVERYTHING better than the Yanks. Every facet of the game from on the field to off-season moves. Where the hell are you finding these young pitchers and position players? The Yankees haven't haven't gotten anything big of their farm system in years. Ugh.
Those young pitchers were a great surprise. Steal Home? Sure why not..Imagine if (when?)Jacoby gets on base with a little more consistancy. One of the best Sox Vs Yanks games since the back to back to back to back hr Sunday night game..

I don't know what the hell Wakefield did in the offseason, but wow. 7 innings of 1 hit baseball! Magnificent.

3-1 Boston, 11 in a row off of yet another Bay blast. Manny who?
.....and like that, they're in 1st place.
Forgot that the first Indians/Sox game was on last night. Stupid me. That's two missed in a row. I won't make that same mistake again! (Note: I probably will.)
Bay is becoming a nightmare to closers in the AL ( Mariano, Wood)..he needs a cool nickname.

I hate, despise, loathe the Red Sox. I hate everything about them. I hate Boston as a city, and I hate Red Sox fans. I hate the Celtics, and I hate the Patriots, and all of their fans too.

BUT: Ellsbury is a freaking lighting bolt. That shit was awesome.

Your hate keeps me warm at night.

Like a blanket.

In the world of the sane: Too bad to see the streak end, but you can't win every game.
Take THAT JazzyJustin. Some Jonathan Van Every up in ya!

He's officially my least favorite poster now. I will hate him henceforth.

Seriously though, that was a pretty awesome come-back. Makes me feel extremely happy that without 3 everyday starters (esp. Youkilis) the boys are still getting it done.
Van Every just had the best night ever. What could be better than scoring the game-winning home run in extra innings, then walking back to the dugout to receive adulation from the likes of Ortiz and Youkilis?

Holy Serial Crushing, Batman.

What the hell happened, Boston?

Hmmm...are we simply incapable of defeating Garza? The small comfort I take is that when the Rays lose, they lose hard. They seem to top load their victories with ridiculous points and hardly ever score when they lose. It's a small comfort only. Jesus Christ, fucking Garza. I am getting concerned about Beckett. He's off. I'm sure he can and will rebound, though.
Garza is a nuts pitcher, no doubt about it, and he certainly seems to have our number. I'm a little more concerned with the number of runs allowed-- not that it really mattered, since we didn't get any runs of our own, but it's a take-your-pick to determine which problem is larger, the lack of runs scored or the amount of runs given.

I choose the latter.

Garza-- man I can't get over him. He's a beast. At least against us.
Rays..Yanks..Indians..oh my..its gonna be a long week.

Rays stadium looked half empty.

hehe True. It's disconcerting, for me at least. I spend a lot of time watching Red Sox games, especially the ones at Fenway, where the stadium has been full for the last, what? 6 years or something? Watching any other game, I'm like, why isn't this stadium full of people? Then I remember that I'm a Red Sox fan and we're fucking nuts.
The Trop is an good stadium except for the Catwalks and the Bush League Car Commercials on the Jumbo Tron in between innings.

I was at the 13-0 asskicking at the Trop for my World Series Championship Gloating Tour. Every one was wearing the 2003 Superbowl shirts. That hurt.
Could Green be Papi 2.0? By that I mean, plcked up and providing immediate results. Hope Lugo didnt unpack his bags.
So, when the BoSox have to play in NL parks during interleague play, does anyone think that they will sit Youkilis and play Papi at first, like they had been doing the past few seasons?
Youkilis will most likely play first or third, and Ortiz and Lowell will alternate sits. Of course, that all depends on how the everyone's season is going at that point. but i can't imagine youkilis losing playing time to anyone at this point
post #94 of 344
Why would you sit Lowell? Both he and Youk are smacking the ball around (so far) and they are both Gold Glove winning infielders; why try to jam an ineffective Ortiz into the mix?

Ortiz will sit. His bat has been so awful this year, he'll need to stay the hell off of the field if it continues.

You know what I hate? The Rays and Tropicana Field. The Sox are 2-13 in their last 15 at the Trop (I saw 3 of those losses last year, including Game 7 of the ALCS), and the Rays are just beating Boston every time they play. It's driving me insane how bad the Sox play against Tampa. Honestly, I've haven't seen the Sox get pushed around so badly in quite some time. It reminds me of the 1988 and 1990 seasons against the A's. The Sox were OWNED by them. I suppose some Yankee teams of old did the same, but still.

It's funny watching Ellsbury kick so much ass, and then you look at Tampa's roster, and it's full of players like Ellsbury, only way better. I don't quite understand how Boston's the only team Tampa currently owns, but whatever.

Ugh, I think I'm mostly disappointed because Tampa is the closest MLB venue to me. The Trop is a fucking disgrace anyway, but now that the Sox can't win there, it's even more depressing. I've lived in Orlando since June of 2000. I've seen the Sox play in Tampa every year, and I've only seen them win ONE TIME - on a Shea Hillenbrand pinch-hit grand slam, top of the 9th inning, capping a miraculous comeback. It's insane...it really is.
As a Sox fan, I can say-its bad -but not too bad- if the Rays own the Sox in the regular season-only IF Sox own them in the playoffs!

Imagine being an Angels (or Indians!) fan-great season, come playoff, come Sox, season over.

If memory serves Angels always play (played) Sox very well in the regular season.

How long do the Sox get a "free pass"? Is 5 yrs (per Bill Simmons-I think).

Ortiz won't sit an entire interleague series. Francona doesn't even want to move him down the order at this point.

I'm not saying what they SHOULD do, just what I think they will. Ortiz will sit a lot in NL parks, but not for every game, and there's only really two swaps you can make. Youk sits, or plays third and Lowell sits.

Oh, without a doubt, they'll rotate. Depending on the health of the trio, who knows who will sit for how long. Youk went out tonight with a back or wrist issue, so who knows.

Jason Bay is an absolute monster. He's killing the Yanks this year. I'm watching the game tonight on MLB.TV, and I took this screen-cap:

Bay Homer

The empty seats are hilarious for one, but the Red Sox fan on the left had the perfect view for Bay's monster shot.

It's currently 6-4, thanks to Tex's 2nd homer. I still get nervous when it's a close game with 6 outs to go in Yankee stadium.

What a bizarre world we live in. We can barely scratch a win out from the Rays, the motherfucking Devil-less fucking Rays, and yet we've proven quite capable of winning against the Yankees. Did I wake up in bizarro land or something?
