Doves Fail to Surprise

They've recorded another great album. Sounds like everything else they've done, but if you liked those records...

I doubt it'll age well, though it'll still sound good in the future; the band is seemingly a brew of every 'arty' rock band of the late nineties to the oughts, from Radiohead to Montreal bands, crammed into one group. Like The Sound was of the eighties.

I've always enjoyed their singles - starting with 'Catch The Sun' - but never picked up any of their albums.

I like their first two albums. But yeah, they all kinda sound the same. Or at least...not different enough. I've kinda given up on them.

It also wouldn't kill them to express some levity in their music. They always come across so damn serious and somber. Even Radiohead has some lighter moments here and there.

I'm still on my first play through, but its certainly a livelier affair than some of Some Cities (which I still like) and there's some big sound on here, which is the sort of thing I like to delve into from time to time.

I'm not expecting a life-changing album, but this could well become my soundtrack for the summer if it holds up over repeat listenings.
