Clip the standings now.. tied for first place, bitches!

Still, at dinner last night, my wife brought up the pre-game Lou Brown speech where every major newspaper has picked this team to finish last. So what's the real drama this season? How long Halladay remains in a Jays uniform?

Help is on the way but it's still a season off, maybe two.

On XM today they were talking about how bad the fans were. What happened?

Well, it was a pretty rowdy crowd last night. It was great at first, the noise levels were high, there was relentless heckling of Ordonez from entire sections (Ooooh-EE-Ooooh, MAAAAAAAAGLIOOOOOO!), over 48,000 people showed up, it was awesome.

It was all going smoothly until the taps started flowing. Remember... we're talking Canadian beer here...

First came the Pizza Pizza cardboard airplanes. 1 or 2 showed up on field and before it could be stopped, there was an entire fleet. The warning track was littered with these airplanes, with at least one aerospace engineer up in the 500 level constructing planes that were almost reaching the infield, from the homerun wall.

By the end of about the 5th, the level of drunken buffoonary was reaching new levels. A guy about 10 seats down from me (sitting 1st row behind the homerun wall) fell over the freaking wall, and was saved from dropping about 20 feet on his neck by his friend who managed to catch his flailing arms and bring him back in... so he could then be kicked out.

I guess the last straw came late in the game when 2 baseballs were thrown onto the field and landed very close to Josh Anderson. At that point the umps called the players in and there was a 10 min delay of game, which I learned afterwards came very close to being a forfeit for the Jays. They made a few announcements telling us to stop being retarded, and the game eventually continued without incident.

Go Jays Go!

When the SkyDome was new and the Jays were winning, they were the model for fan behavior - both in amount and quality. 15 years of lackluster play (and ownership) have taken its toll.

Hilarious... Opening day attendance: >48,000

2nd Game attendance: <17,000

The difference? No beer allowed in the 2nd game.

Also, the perfect season continues.

I remember opening day last year being much worse, in regards to drunkenness. There was even more stuff thrown on the field against the Red Sox, albeit nothing as bad as baseballs and there were no streakers this year.
I was just glad I didn't see any fights break out around me this year.

As to the actual line up, I'm cautiously optimistic that the batters can make up for whatever problems the starting rotation might have, especially the middle of the batting order.
I'm also glad to see Aaron Hll playing as well as he has so far this season, since I was worried that he wouldn't bounce back from his injury last year.

Adam Lind continues to mash the ball. That's encouraging. Gives the Jays their first real DH since the days of Winfield/Molitor.

...that's odd... my hopes are usually crushed by now.

19 hits tonight!

Congratulations to Scott Richmond for surprising us all and winning the AL rookie of the month award. His pitching so far this season has been fantastic and of fun to watch.

Richmond was barely a thought in anyone's head this spring training with attention paid more on guys like Purcey and Romero, but you're right - he's been outstanding.

I guess it has to be asked now as well.. with Downs pitching well, is it time to just cut bait on B.J. Ryan?

Ok, after a three-game set with Boston, the Jays start interleague play by coming down south to play the Bravos. This might be my only chance to see Halladay pitch in person. Road trip!

Well, so much for that. Four lousy god damn hits against a guy with a 5.00+ ERA, wasting seven great shutout innings from Halladay. I sense the spiral beginning.
