As one of the few people on the planet who has seen Van Wilder II: the Rise of Taj, I can comfortably say this is probably Obama's second most questionable appointment.

Huh...interesting. Isn't he actually quite adept at politics? Like, that's what he studied and is heavily vested in.

However, I am upset that we lose his character on House because of this. hmph, public service my ass, I have to be entertained!

Harold would have been a much better choice.

I don't actually know. I was just making a joke based on the fact that the star of Van Wilder II: The Rise of Taj is now in the White House. I'm sure he's perfectly capable.

And on that note, can John Cho become Treasury Secretary?

It's weird - just last night on Monday his character on HOUSE died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Next day he's working for Obama.

Is that how it works? Creepy.

Just more evidence the Obama administration is media-savvy.

Dude, the star of "Bedtime for Bonzo" was president already. This shit is old hat.

It's media savvy in the extreme and not completely ridiculous...

Penn was a surrogate for Barack Obama's presidential campaign in 2008 and a member of Obama's National Arts Policy Committee. He appears in the Barack Obama video "Sí Se Puede Cambiar" by Andres Useche and appeared with comedian George Lopez on January 18, 2009 at "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial." ...In spring 2008, Penn served as visiting lecturer in Asian American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He taught a course titled “Images of Asian Americans in the Media”.

Penn is currently working on a graduate certificate in international security from Stanford University

Older bro Sean has a long history of being politically outspoken, so you can't be too surprised.

Thanks, Prankster. Suddenly I know what to say to one of my conservative friends who has been giving me shit about this.

It's a recurring source of frustration that even liberals don't seem to see how hypocritical it is for conservatives to sneer at the Democrats for being in bed with Hollywood, being media-conscious, etc. That continued up to the election, with the "Obama's such a big celebrity (condescending chuckle)" talk. Hey, guess which of the two candidates hosted Saturday Night Live?

If there's a "vapid celebrity" party, it's absolutely the Republicans. [/rant]
