The Phillies quest to repeat as World F---ing Champions discussion

Not a great start so far.

I am predicting that Florida will give us trouble this year. They have spoiled the Mets playoff hopes the last day of the season for the past two years.
Good win tonight. Hopefully this will get the ball rolling a bit.

Lidge scared me for a second, but getting that first save was great. Looks like the Braves are gonna do some damage this year.
DAMN YOU ATLANTA BULLPEN! I HAD JAVIER VAZQUEZ!

At least Lidge salvaged something for me.

Ugh! We can't beat the Rockies and Braves? Going to be a long season if they don't shape up

Matt Stairs is the fucking man.

Ugh. Harry Kalas rushed to hospital this afternoon.

Dead at 73. Between his passing, and the fact that Joe Morgan is still on the air, this has been a horrendous year for sports broadcasting.

R.I.P. to Harry the K.

This sucks ass.

RIP Harry and the K

I'm still near-tears, been that way practically all day. I grew up hearing his voice on hot, mid-summer Sunday afternoons....all my life he was a fixture.

A legend that will be missed forever. Rest in Peace.

To lighten the mood in this thread, I give you...Phillies-Cat.

Tough game. Madson and Lidge aren't the sure thing they were last year, and Lidge blows his first save in 48 tries. This doesn't by any means spell disaster, but it shows that the guys have to work out some early season kinks.

I'm glad we're hitting though, and Ibanez is looking spectacular.
Rendell and Harry's son's speeches were really good. Crazy seeing them drive him out of the field in a hearse. It was like a religious mass.
I sure hope Lidge doesn't morph into "ohnopujolsjusthita600foothomerunoffme"-Lidge again.

But so far this season has all the makings of a championship hangover.
What a great game. Some shaky defense from Ibanez, but he's on a tear to open the season at the plate.
Raul La Raqueta indeed.

Allow me to channel my inner Duke Fleed...

It looks like the Phillies have...WALKED OVER the Mets at this critical game 2 of the three game series. The Flying Hawaiian...Shane VICTORino...Really flew to first base when he was walked in the bottom of the 9th.

Beating the Yankees kicks ass. I was in New York for all three games...

-Lidge needs to go back to the minors or get replaced by Durbin as closer while hanging back in the bullpen. We could have swept this series.

-John Mayberry jr. seems to me that he could be a possible replacement for Werth or Victorino if we decide to trade for a starting pitcher.

-Happ is already an improvement over Park

Fuck Lidge. We were 1 out away from an 8 game winning streak.
Yeah, fuck Lidge again. At least we didn't lose this one in the 9th...hopefully we can pull it out now in extra innings.
The Phils are playing like the Fish. What's goin' on?!
It's alright, we won the World Series and they didn't. Bastardo is gonna be lights-out tomorrow against them, we'll split the series 2-2.
Hey, if it took my team over 100 years to tie the Marlins in World Series championships I'd be defensive too.

I can't believe how lucky we have been with our rookies so far this year.

Happ replacing Chan Ho Park
Antonio Bastardo replacing an DL-ed Bret Meyers

John Mayberry Jr showed us during that one Yankee game the he would make an acceptable replacement if we have to trade Victorino or Werth for another pitcher

Down 4-1 against the Mets at the bottom of the 6th. Damn. Why didn't hamels pitch last night? That way we would have him against the Sox on Sunday.

Its a shame about Lidge, but what could you do? We could have been up 5 games going into the Mets series.

Chase is the man.
Ryan Madson is not a closer.
This is fucking ridiculous. Has there ever been such a lopsided road vs. home record? How can such a powerful lineup be so consistently awful in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball? What the motherfuck is wrong with our pitching?! WHY DO I WANT CHAN HO FUCKING PARK TO BE OUR CLOSER?!

This team makes my brain hurt.
Swept by the Orioles. 1-8 on the home stand.

Thank god this division is in the shitter. Its a miracle we're still in first place.

24 wins on the road, the most of any team in the major leagues. The Angels have the best road record in the AL and they only have 18 away game wins.

Our home record is on par with the Nats. YIKES.

22-1 at Citizens Bank Park. What an ASSWHOPPING BY THE FIGHTIN'S!
Don't forget to vote for Shane Victorino and Brandon Inge in All-Star voting. Only four hours left. I did my part.
A typical Pittsburgh Pirate performance vs. West Jersey.

Well... at least we got Stanley and Lombardi shining on the real side of the state.
Good game so far tonight. I'll be there tomorrow.

Anyone hear Dykstra on Dan Patrick this morning? Man alive.

A guy was beat to death inside the Sports Complex Parking Area on Saturday. Plus we had green laser man get away with shining a laser on the Cardinals while they were at bat. What a weekend!

We got Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco as a right handed batter off the bench, Mother Fuckers!!!

Its looking like Phils/Yankees World Series now.
Someone checked the schedule for the World Series if it was NY/Phila. If it happens, there's a day when a Giant/Eagles game will be the soon follwed by a Yankees/Phillies game in South Philadelphia.

I'm curious if they would some alter that because it is asking for trouble.
Getting waaaay ahead of yourselves there fellas. We have no closer. As good as Lidge was last year, he's been just as bad this year.
I wouldn't be making those WS plans just yet. I believe there are some gentlemen in St. Louis who are going to have a say in the matter.

We would be a lock if it weren't for the closer situation. We might have to put Pedro, Meyers, or even Chan Ho Park into an audition for the position during the next 6 weeks.
Is Manuel going to wait for Lidge to kill himself on the mound, Last Boy-Scout style?

Looks like Charlie just lost faith in Lidge. Lucky for us We have the Nats, Mets, and then Nats again for the next 3 series.

Pedro leaves the game early for a neck injury. The Phillies are really banged up
