Can video games be art?

I don't feel like searching for an old thread, if there was one. There's a bit of a discussion going on over on Twitter. IMHO, it's kinda naive to think games CAN'T be when most other artistic mediums are.

art- the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.


Metal Gear Solid 4.

BioShock.

Just two examples, but why couldn't they be considered art?
