Can video games be art?

I don't feel like searching for an old thread, if there was one. There's a bit of a discussion going on over on Twitter. IMHO, it's kinda naive to think games CAN'T be when most other artistic mediums are.

art- the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

Metal Gear Solid 4.

BioShock.

Just two examples, but why couldn't they be considered art?

115 seconds. 17 pages, so you might want to bump this one. If everyone wants to type their opinions again, though, cool. I don't play video games.

This may be a conversation better had on Roger Ebert's board.

Metal Gear 4's the one that introduced a bold new character who shits his pants all the time, right?

Take it to one of the threads linked above. Closing this one.

(And that character is in all of the MGS games.)
