Parks and Recreation

No thread about this yet? No one watched?

I LOVE Asiz and Jones, so i'll be watching. But the same style of the office is jarring. Why not call it a spin off if it's exactly the same type of show?

Tom showing the clipboard with her Memoires was great.
Yeah, it was pretty much the exact same style as The Office, just in a different office.

And I didn't find it all that funny. The biggest laugh I got was the bit at the end where the boss shouts "BOBBY KNIGHT!!" at the big cutout in his office.

I'm....eh on this. I like Amy Poehler in general, but I think she's funnier when she's not playing dumb (ala' Weekend Update). On the other hand, this was the pilot, so I'll give it a chance. I think if it manages to find a unique voice it could be good. I'll give it this, hell of a lot better than Kath n Kim.

That's what i don't like about it, they have her playing Michael Scott as a woman. Why not have her create a different character? No the old Good intentioned, sweet but dumb. (I know michael has proven to be a lot worse than that).
I thought there was some funny stuff in it, but I think they hurt it by using the documentary style. It really does seem like an Office rip-off. Which it is. Yeah, Knope is a Michael Scott alike. Though Poehler still manages to make her funny. I liked the stuff with the deadbeat boyfriend the best. I'll keep watching, of course, because I like the actors bunches.
Pretty enjoyable and lots of potential. I'll watch more and see how it goes. I'm fine with re-using the Office style. Anything is better than the ol' laugh track comedy format.
I enjoyed it, watched it twice. I found myself laughing quite a bit.

I liked the travel pillow with the duct tape.

I find it weird that I still find Amy Poehler attractive, even though she is quite heavier now.

She JUST had a baby when they filmed that. She'll slim down.

I have a feeling this is going to be Azis's show.

This is getting terrible. I can't stand Poehler
post #10 of 1098
I dunno if they can really spin much material out of this premise, but I like all the characters and performers a lot. It's not The Office or 30 Rock, but I do enjoy it.
My wife and I have been watching this and I like everyone but Poehler. My wife absolutely hated Poehler on SNL but says she actually likes her on this show. I don't know why.
Honestly, I'm waiting for Daniels & Co. to drop this whole "Office 2.0" take before I completely abandon it. There's a talented enough cast here (not to mention Daniels being involved) to make something interesting outta this imo.

Also I'm curious as to those using this new "Well, the Office wasn't that great when it started either!" argument because that's 100% revisionist history. Granted the ratings didn't pick up till season 2 (i.e. Carell becoming a star thanks to 40 Year Old Virgin), but the series was immediately accepted by those who watched.

I'm done.
Unless someone tells me it gets amazing in the future. This last episode was actually boring.
When an episode of "My Name is Earl" guest starring Giraldo Rivera is funnier than this...it's time to re-work the show.
I watched the first 2-3 minutes with the dog poop fight. That was really all I needed to know I won't be watching this show.
NBC just renewed this shit. Sad.
I must be the only one digging this show.

On paper, the show sounds terrific. The premise is not bad, the Office like style is known to work, and the cast is terrific.
But really, tell me a funny thing the show has going for itself?
Poehler is just annoying, never found her character funny at all. It just doesn't work. Or they haven't found a way to make it work yet.

You're not, as I'm actually enjoying it more every week. This may be due to the fact that I worked for a smalltown newspaper and covered smalltown government for almost 10 years ... and I swear I knew people who acted EXACTLY LIKE THE CHARACTERS ON THIS SHOW.
I don't hate it, but there are almost zero laugh-out-loud moments for me. Maybe they'll grow into it, but I won't be holding my breath.
The boyfriend had us laughing last week. I also dig the boss and Aziz. I'm not 100% invested in this show yet (hence not knowing the names) but I dig everyone involved and I'm willing to give it a season and it's nowhere near the shit levels that was Kath & Kim.
I do like that the boyfriend is shown in the last one to not be a total piece of shit, like he's been shown in previous episodes.

I don't much care for Pohler or "Sleazy Jim."

Me and my roommates are totally loving this. I don't really like "The Office" style nature of the show, but the plots and characters are great. Coming from an organizing background we relate to every situation Poehler's character is in. The community meetings with low turn out, canvassing the neighborhood, city council rules about not accepting gifts...it hits home. The show is still working things out though. We chuckle more than laugh out loud, but we're sticking with it for now.
What I have seen has been amusing but feels lazy. A lot of Poehler's lines sound like rejected Michael Scott lines, or at the very least, "what would Michael say if he were a woman?" lines. Too similar. I'm guessing a second season would help the show find its own rhythm, but I'm not sure it will get that chance.

I was really surprised to see Paul Schneider in this. He'd been carving a niche for himself with great roles in The Assassination of Jesse James and Lars and the Real Girl...kind of weird to see him show up in a network sitcom.

We were fucking dying when they showed him the kiddie pool, and even moreso when he was chasing his neighbor down the street.
That was a definite LOL moment. The dot covering his privates was reminiscent of "Arrested Development".

Am I the only one who thinks that the theme song is the best thing about this show?

No.

I love the boss. "It is true you won this award." He works better in limited doses but I'd love to see at least one episode centered around him rather than Leslie.
I want to like this show more but it just doesn't make me laugh. Also, seeing Pamela Reed play a battleaxe makes me sad.

"I only like to speak facts." Yeah, he is the best thing about this show. This past ep was one of the worst of the season.

"Bacon-wrapped shrimp."
"Oh, no thanks."
"I wasn't offering."

The show elicits the occasional chuckle, and I like everyone involved, but it just hasn't clicked. Maybe it hasn't hit its stride yet.
EW reports this show is renewed for a second season.
Ron is definitely the breakout character. This little bit is as funny as anything that has been said on THE OFFICE recently:

"I enjoy government functions like I enjoy getting kicked in the nuggets with a steel-toed boot, but this hotel always serves bacon-wrapped shrimp. That's my number-one favorite food wrapped around my number-three favorite food. I'd go to a banquet in honor of those Somali pirates, if they served bacon-wrapped shrimp."

And, yes, the theme song is quite catchy. But I don't understand why people aren't enjoying the whole show. I sure am.
I'm still liking it. It's more clever than funny, though. I'm in it for Rashida Jones and Aniz.

Yeah, that theme song is damn catchy.

Still boring. Won't keep watching.
I like everyone on the show BUT Poehler. Ansari is great.
I watched this show for the first time last night since sometime last year. I thought it had potential but Poehler seems to be doing a shitty Michael Scott impersonation. If she finds her own voice the show may be fine.
For God's sake will they drop this Office 2.0 angle already.
"I was born ready. I'm Ron Fucking Swanson."

I don't understand why I'm the only one who loves this show. Everyone's flipping out about how great COMMUNITY is over it that thread ... yet I've found its first two episodes to be surprisingly dull. PARKS and REC, on the other hand, has me rolling.
Ron Fucking Swanson, indeed. That bit killed me. I really wish they'd feature ol' Ron a bit more than they do. Maybe they're afraid of him because he kills every scene he's in.
I enjoyed Louis CK's final interview segment as the cop. Kind of uncomfortable with his attraction toward Amy's character.
Aziz Ansari is too big for this show.

And they are unfortunately, misusing Poehler's talents.
All the cast are terrific. I can't put my finger on why the show doesn't work for me-- perhaps the pacing, or the mock-doc style.
Yahoo TV! seems to think Parks could be one of the next shows to go. It already has a 22-episode order, I believe. But if something like Kath & Kim gets a full season, don't know why this wouldn't.
So am I the only watching this? From gay penguin marriage to being incapacitated by a hernia, I feel like it's really stepped up its game in the second season.

Just me then? Ok.

It's not just you. This is the most underrated show on TV.
Referring to the one contestant as "The hot one", even when announcing her as the winner made me giggle.
Took them forever to launch that 12 Angry Men joke. Should have been Scene Two.

Intern Girl quitting was great though. "This is for a fence?"

C.K. showing off his research on the Great Women pictures was the best laugh.
Love this show. Especially last night's episode. Best one so far.
