"Even the super left-wing chicks that saw Blood Diamond and cried? When they get a diamond, they're like, 'Yeah, bitch, gimme one of them blood diamonds! Make 'em extra bloody!'"

"And one guy was like, 'I wouldn't hit that,' and the other guy was like, 'me neither,' and this third guy was like, 'I would.' So I don't know if that's helpful at all."

"We can't have raccoons for the Christmas thing, they'll hunt the kids for sport."

"I found a sandwich in one of your parks, and I want to know why it didn't have mayonnaise!"

Yes. And it set up the plot for the rest of the episode.

I could have watched an entire episode about inside humor we don't get. They really nailed that stuff. It was good set up as well, and there's no way anyone realized where it was leading with her accidentally discovering his new scandal. Lost of good twists and turns in the episode.

Poor Louis CK. Good way to get rid of him so he can do his new show and possibly come back, though.

As the resident gossipologist I loved the tabloid witch hunt of Leslie. "Look at the way she is touching her hips. She's sending the message that she wants make babies with him." "It only means one thing when two women stand that close together. They are lesbians."

I love the crush that April has on Andy. Her little smiles to the camera are all sorts of adorable.

Everyone attempting to do Leslie's to-do list was funny, yet shows us that she's not Michael Scott. She is a workhorse and is pretty competent at her job.

The smiles from everyone as she came back to her desk at the end were perfect. Everyone obviously appreciates her much more now.

just wanted to say Louis CK deserves an emmy for his acting in this ... I had no idea he was such a great naturalistic actor.

Also Im tired of people saying (everywhere, not here) that the show is so much better this year ... no it really isnt, it was just as good last year, you're just late to the party and now that its popular, dont want to admit it.... so you'd rather say the party sucked until you arrived.
Nope. Watched last season. It wasn't nearly as good. It's science. Sorry.
Also nope. Watched all last season as it aired and thought it was only "okay".

Season two has been laugh out loud riotous. It's gone from (at its peak) a 7/10 show to a 10/10 show.

and P.S. based on your avatar (bad overly long joke from the worst season of the office), Id guess your sense of humor is suspect.

Clearly theres no way to determine tastes or preferences, but critically speaking you are correct, I think it was more praised this season that last, but IMO if last season were airing as this seasons next several episodes I think everyone would like them just the same.

P.S. I ve watched the 6 episodes from last season twice, last time was a week ago. I enjoyed it very much (as I did the first time I watched them).
No, last season was just boring, Brechtsky. And calling MissZooey's sense of humor suspect will not win you any points towards your argument.

Yeah, i bailed on last season after 5 episodes. This season i came back after reading some comments on this thread. I will keep watching.

They really improved.
gosh doneatnachos Im really concerned about winning points in your mind ...

And how is she not suspect ... she also seems to have lots of respect for nora ephron, and while she made harry met sally and recently julia and julia, the last ten or fiteen years have seen her as writer/director of mixed nuts, youve got mail, lucky number, michael, and bewitched.

clearly not suspect at all.
Brechtsky, personal attacks really aren't cool. But, if I must, let me explain -

1. I dislike Nora Ephron's work. My custom user text is a joke. The juxtaposition of Spike Lee and Nora Ephron is humorous, don't you think?

2. I adore The Office. Love it to distraction. At the same time, I acknowledge that this season has been nowhere near as good as previous seasons. Nonetheless, I have a lot of affection for the characters, particularly darling Ms. Halpert. So, yeah. She's my avatar. It's a funny picture. That's all.

Could we please go back to talking about Parks and Rec now? Thank you.
That juxtaposition is aces. Fuck him.
I thought the first season was good too, but not nearly as good as the show is now. It's almost like they may have read what most saw (Leslie as Michael Scott lite) and did some serious work to separate it from The Office. This episode was a perfect way to distance Leslie from Michael. People like her and she is competant in her job.
I really enjoyed last season but it didn't really click and they were trying to figure out what the show was. This is admitted by everyone involved, both in the press and behind closed doors. It's unquestionably better this season. I had no problems with it before, but it went from being a good show to my favorite comedy on TV.
My two cents:

Last year the show seldom made me laugh out loud.

This year the show constantly makes me laugh out loud.

I couldn't possibly care less whether or not a comedy is popular or successful. It either makes me laugh or it doesn't. That's my sole criteria.

"I want to punch you so hard in the face right now." Ron Swanson is awesome. Surprised to see this wasn't bumped for thursday's episode.

Yeah, it was a pretty good one.

"Thiiiiis is how you eeeeeat it..." made me laugh harder than anything I've seen on TV in months.
There was definitely some tinkering with Leslie between season one and two to make her more relatable, which has certainly strengthened the show. And I think Andy is a much improved character this year. But anyone who thinks season one wasn't funny is just lying to themselves so they'll feel better about being behind the curve.

Remember, it was season one that gave us Ron saying: "I love bacon-wrapped shrimp. It's my third favorite food wrapped in my first favorite food. I'd attend an event for those Somali pirates if they served bacon-wrapped shrimp."

That and Ron Swanson's "The only way I'll agree to be a witness is if I'm a hostile witness" tangent and aftermath.

Leaving aside the quasi-pretentious "I liked this first, so I'm cooler" attitude, I completely agree with you. The show, much like "The Office", is finding its stride in the second season, but it was definitely funny right out of the gate.

Any show that produce a character like this is aces in my book:

His "hostile witness" scene was awesome sauce, as were his unshared deviled eggs.

People need to stop commenting about the less funny 30 Rock and start watching the completely awesome and great Parks and Rec. Every week it amazes me how much it is better than it was in the first season.

"Dude, Deep Blue Sea! This is the best movie ever!" "Yeah, and that's the Canadian cut. 22 minutes longer and includes a separate audio track where LL Cool J raps all his lines."

"I think that's really really sweet that your grandparents still make love."

Oh, and this little gem.

Agreed.

DJ Roomba's ghost was...exquisite.
The show is underappreciated, but Jesus, is it on fire. "Turf and Turf." My God.
It's a real testament to this show's greatness that the April/Andy coupling is actually kinda sweet.

This and Community are really owning Thursday nights now on NBC.

I was partial to the HealthYum sugar high rave. But DJ Roomba is definitely the goods.

And I have officially removed The Office from my DVR recordings. I've mentioned it before, but I appreciate them changing Leslie from a Michael "insufferable prick" Scott clone to a competent, caring person who gets into sticky situations because of her over-ambition and/or innocent nature. It really makes all the difference. That, and Ron F'n Swanson steals the show.
Though I haven't removed Parks and Recreation or the Office from my DVR, I am close. I can watch Community and get hyped about the next hour and a half of comedy, only to be stymied with P&R and the Office killing my buzz for 30 Rock. I can see why it could be funny, with Ron Swanson and Tom Haverford, but the Lesile Knope character is killing my enthusiasm. I liked Amy Poehler on SNL and Weekend Update, but this show makes me rewatch Modern Family until Fringe comes on and I then watch 30 Rock at 10.

I tried last week's episode and I can't dig it. I will keep trying, but there for the grace of Chud message boards go I.
This was a pretty much perfect episode. Ron telling Leslie the score was a touching moment (immediately deflated when he blows off a Duke Silver fan). Also fun watching April continue to discover her basic decency.
This was a solid episode through and through. I love how the cast really do care about each other. Ron definitely stepped up tonight; it's reminiscent of Leslie taking the fall for Tom when he shot Ron while hunting. And I've totally grown on Andy. He was just an annoying buffoon before, but I loved that he really cared about making the seniors happy, but didn't know whether he was doing well because no one would flash their boobs. This is definitely a highlight of Thursday nights.
Does anyone else get the impression that originally Rashida Jones and Paul Schneider were supposed to have much larger roles, but that the writers don't know what to do with them? They're both the least interesting characters with the least to do.
Best episode yet, IMHO.

I'm not sure we realize how hard it is to humanize characters like Andy, April and Ron Fucking Swanson in a genuine way without it drifting over into saccharine sweetness, but P&R is deftly pulling it off. Plus I'm a sucker for any mention of Duke Silver.

edit: Louris you'd rather have Leslie and Grandanowitz do a will they won't they for 3 seasons?

It was an observation. It was obvious on the Office that the intention early on was for Jim and Pam to work towards being a couple, and the writers seemed to have a direction for both characters beyond that. Here I never got the impression that there was an intention early on to get the two together, nor has either shown much development as characters compared to everyone else on the show. I like both actors, but I get the impression nobody knows what to do with either of them.
*shrug* I guess I find the two actors and characters likable enough that their lack of depth doesn't really bother me that much. Though it looks like Mark is taking the relationship way more seriously than Anne... so maybe we'll get some drama out of it after all.

It's probably tricky to do, as they're straight men and, as such, mainly just serve to react to the craziness around them. This is especially true of Ann, who was the primary straight man for both Leslie and Andy in the first season. It's always been a little unclear what the writers had in mind with Mark, other than the fact that Leslie had a crush on him; his main purpose now seems to be as a foil for Ann, but it doesn't work as well as the Jim/Pam thing.

The Jim/Pam comparison is apt in the straight man respect, but you're right in pointing out how important it was that the Office writers had their relationship arc in mind from the beginning. The Ann/Mark relationship doesn't seem to be an ongoing arc (especially based on her behavior this episode), so I don't think they put as much thought into it.

It makes a sort of sense that Ann, the character we could always sort of relate to, took a backseat this season as the writers attempted (and succeeded, I'd argue) in humanizing the rest of the characters.
Ron, April, and Andy have quickly become my favorite characters on the show. Ron's moment with Leslie last night, fan rejection and all, was absolutely pitch-perfect, the kind of small dramatic beat that makes all of the wackiness surrounding it hum. Great episode.
The "tourist" twist is why this is my favorite Thursday NBC show. Community is funnier, but they're doing some fantastic character work on this show.
I think they're "boring" because they're the straight guys in all this.

Good episode. I'm with you, Sean. The tourist thing really, really worked. Good stuff.
The tourist observation illustrated, once again, why Ron Swanson is the most interesting character on television right now. He's the Lou Grant of 2010.
I laughed for the first time ever at PARKS & REC last night.
"You're like an Angel without wings."
"So, like a human?"

I could have sworn the douche playing Ansari's business partner was Samberg at first.
Leslie's rant about awards being hypocritical and Ron being right and OOHH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING was perfect.

Also liked Andy pulling the 'closed' chain over a customer.

Guess who really built that canoe? I thought Ron's workshop looked unusually authentic.
