HOLY SHIT THAT IS AWESOME

That's great, but I almost wish Anne was credited as "Girl."

I love how (in my twisted mind at least) the threat in that last exchange is implied, not stated.

Ron's giddy smile over solving the riddles killed me.  I was also a huge fan of him taking Andy's oddly shaped stick and not instantly discounting it as a potential clue.

I saw the Ann/Tom thing coming but that's fine.  More for Asiz to do is not a bad thing and he's had 2 great weeks in a row using his squeaky voice.

Tom's high-pitched "Nooooo!!" sounded exactly like when he got his fingie pinched last week.

I really liked Chris's short journey through misery. "This sounds like it's from a movie where a monk dies at the end." "It is."

And, "I'm 44, Leslie."

"You look 30."

"People say 25."

"Who?"

"Some people say it."

It's the same no he makes upon being informed Lil Sebastien died.

Also, Chris suddenly glancing over at Jerry with newfound lasciviousness when told that both Jerry and Millicent share at least 50% of the same DNA...

I love that there wasn't an easy way for Ron to subtly clue Leslie about wanting a scavenger hunt for his birthday. "I do want one. Please make one for me."

And you know Leslie will do one for him that takes weeks to solve.

I'm well aware it'd be a terrible idea on the show itself, but there's gotta be Leslie/Ron shippers out there.

I've always been of the opinion that Poehler would be much, much cuter as a brunette, but if the Leslie character went that direction City Hall would be physically rent in twain by the sheer force of sexual tension emanating from the director's office.

I'm simply amazed they manage to transform Rashida Jones every week into an unspectacularly pretty human woman that trods the same earth as us mortals. Hollywood magic!

Ron loving the riddles was fun. But I cracked up when his solution to solving the cryptix (sp?) was to smash it open with a hammer.

And I hope the Anna and Tom thing was just a one time joke. I screamed "Noooo!" when I saw what was coming.

Ron Swanson at the gay bar cracked me up for some reason.    Also there needs to be a running joke for the rest of the season of Ron still finding clues for his birthday treasure hunt.

As far as Ann and Tom go, I think it was just the one date.

Ann could get into Tom's sweet, authentic inner self, but the sleazy, swaggery, Tommy Timberlake facade will always rear its head and gross her out. So I can't see it ever working long term without them drastically changing his character but there is a little spark there which is interesting.

I'm against Ann and Tom because I'm against pairing up the only brown people in a cast on principle.

Figures that someone with the name "Whiteboy Jones" would be racist against beautiful tropical fish.

They DISGUST me.

I'm only up to halfway through season 2 of this and while I find in general it leans way too hard on the cutesy looks into the camera I think Tom and Andy are two of the best characters on TV and Ron Swanson is a lot of fun too. I knew Nick Offerman and Aziz but I'd never heard of Chris Pratt before P&R and even though dumb characters are generally low hanging comedy fruit (and he's one of the worst looks-into-camera offenders) I've become an instant fan of that guy. Louis CK was amazing in his short stint too.

Not all the jokes really land, particularly from Leslie (which bums me out sometimes because I adore the heck out of Amy Poehler) but the show has a nice amount of heart which makes up for it. And word on the street is Adam Scott turns up soon, which, as a big fan of Party Down, rocks my socks off.

Has Mullally turned up yet, because between her, Scott, and Martin Starr in this week's ep., you have a number of Party Down alumni appearances to look forward to.

Bring me Lizzy Caplan! She would be good on Parks and Recreation too.

Oh hell yeah. I wish there was a prequel spin-off series of just her character and Ron Swanson when they were together. Most replacements for Jane Lynch are a step down but when Mullally came into Party Down it got even better. I love that woman.

Lizzy Caplan was in last week's New Girl. She definitely needs to make an appears on this show.

Chris has spouted a bit about Ben's predilection for brunettes before.

Chris Traeger: "You always like tall brunettes."
Ben Wyatt: "Not exclusively."
Chris Traeger: "Historically, yes, exclusively."

Seems like a perfect opportunity to bring Caplan in as an ex.

Is it just me, or are they turning Ron into a Chuck Norris joke? He seemed like more of a character in the previous seasons, now he just spouts off lines that sound too much like someone else wrote them for him. I'm thinking of the "When I eat it's the food that should be scared" kind of stuff.

I felt they did venture too far into cutesyness last year (?), with the obviously fan-generated Pyramid of Greatness and Ron telling the kids' basketball team he'd turn them into Swansons. I don't have a problem with the way the show currently uses him.

What the show needs is more Vice-President of Nougat.  Please?

Ben's fear of cops = gold.

Don't know quite what to call it, but that thing Ben did when Dave sat back down, pretending to be mid-conversation and randomly pointing at Leslie's plate, that just flat killed me.

Man, they need to knock this Tom and Ann stuff off, because it is not working for me on any level whatsoever.

Good stuff from Scott and CK, though.

Given Chris's reaction it seems like the Ann and Tom thing is just build up for Chris and Ann getting back together.

I love when April banged the cymbals in Jerry's face.

I realize that at this point I'm predisposed to laugh at anything Louis CK does just by his virtue of showing up, but he's made a great, genuine character that cracked me up whenever he opened his mouth. His total discomfort in his one talking-head segment was beautiful. "Leslie... is... a female person..."

God I hope he's chief, that CK makes time to show up for even just 2-3 eps a season.

I pretty much love when April does anything.

I'm sure he's chief, as it's not a role that they can use a lot if they want but don't really have to involve in much of anything if they don't. It's a perfect recurring role for a mid-level guest star.

I like the Ann/Tom thing. It's new territory for both characters and it'll be interesting to see who's more able to adapt in the end.

While the stuff with CK was funny, I felt that the dynamic with Poehler and Scott was a little too similar to Paul Rudd's appearance, which also had Leslie and Ben trying to deal rationally with someone who's incapable of seeing beyond himself.

In the C plot, it was neat to see Andy dead-serious and super-motivated about something.

It's new territory in that it makes Tom seem mentally disabled in his inability to understand direct instructions or respond to human emotional cues, and makes Ann practically break the fourth wall by agreeing to do things she has absolutely no reason to do except that it has the potential to produce situational comedy (at her own expense).

Ann grew quite a bit as a character after dumping Andy. I just can't see her putting up with Tom's schtick at this point. And no matter what Tom does, or how heartfelt he does it, I'll always question his sincerity.

"No sir, I don't like it."

"Son I never thought I would say this to you. Your overthinking it."

Ron has made it cool again to call younger guys "son."

It's even funnier in that context because Pratt is only nine years younger than Offerman.

Fun related fact: I'm exactly a day older than Offerman. Course, only one of us was born with a mustache.

Anyone ever check this out?

Yeah, the fact that they are doing this at all is insane to me but I have to admit I'm curious about what will happen next in this ridiculous situation. I can see why April thought he might be good for Ann and why Ann agreed to date him to a certain extent but holy CRAP. When he started singing I wanted to shove my fist through his face.

I tried singing that song to my girlfriend. The results were about what you'd expect.

So I take it you won't be referring to them as "Haverkins"?

I shall not.  It just rings so false to me on all levels.  Tom doesn't even like Ann, which shouldn't be news to him since they've known each other for years.  I can buy that he'd be shallow enough to still want to date her just because she's hot, but he seems emotionally invested in a way that's not based in anything at all.

On her end, at the risk of editorializing, my experience is that women don't date someone just because he's a "nice guy."  Much less beautiful, successful, relatively stable women dating someone because he's "sort of a nice guy, if you can get past all the layers of incessant, loud, extremely irritating douchebagginess".
