THE TUDORS Season 3

So, the highest class, trashiest show on television has returned and right out of the gate it's looking bigger, bloodier and sexier than ever. It doesn't get nearly enough love, but this is such a wonderfully crafted show in spite, or because of, all the scenery chewing.

One thing the show has always hinted at but never shown was battles and with the focus continuing on the Reformation back home, the peasants are revolting (!!) and it looks like it's going to be a heck of a ride.

And anytime you have Max von Sydow playing the Pope, you can do very little wrong.

I miss Natalie Dormer. Badly.

Well, I guess we're the only ones who watch this, Harley.

Oh, I kept wishing Henry would be true to his word, event though I knew he wouldn't be. Gerard McSorley is a welcome addition to the cast as Mr. Ask (?), we need more genuinely righteous people now that More is gone.

I've managed to get my mom into this show, but I was more into seasons 1-2 due to my fascination with Anne Boleyn (matter of fact, my signature comes from season 1 episode 2 in a scene between Anne and her father, Thomas). I wrote a paper on her in high school and have been interested in her life ever since. Now that she's gone, I don't follow it as closely. Hearing that the next season will be the last one apparently is still a bit of a disappointment, though.

I'd be very interested in them doing a series about Elizabeth I, but Blanchett basically owns that role now, so I doubt it'll happen.

They seem to want to do a series about Edward and Mary afterwards, saying the Elizabeth has basically be done to death recently. I personally would rather see a series about the War of the Roses (just the last part with Henry VI, Edward and Richard). It could stay high politics and romance without showing the battles.

This season is better then the first two. Mostly because JRD is finally believable as an all powerful monarch, which he wasn't in the first two seasons.

I have to say, I saw the first two seasons only because I was bored. It was cheap, shoddy television and I felt kind of embarrassed by the fact I was watching it. ROME ended, and the Tudors was starting up. I figured I'd give it a try. The comparison did TUDORS no favors.

With that said, the third season which I watched the first half of this weekend is the least terrible one yet. Meyers never made a convincing romantic lead, but as the villan he's not half bad. Also, now that some of the dead weight in the casts was killed off (and the tedious Ann plotline at last done away with) the show seems to be hitting it's stride.

It's still a little cheap and tawdry, but I no longer have that feeling of embarrassment just from putting the DVD in the machine

Well I finished up the season. Kind of strangely truncated, wasn't it?

Like I said, the least embarrassing and trashy season yet. (I've never blushed as hard in my life as when the last line of dialog from the first season played within earshot of my mom)

Henry as the villain is alot more fun, but he is kind of a crappy king. He is CONSTANTLY telling people it's ok and he forgives them... only to have them killed. WTF? Alexander the Great would turn over in his honey filled glass coffin if he saw a monarch behaving that way. You either kill a person, or you pardon them. You DO NOT do both. Doing both is pathetic and classless. If someone offended Sekander, he'd kill them himself. When his army mutinied for the second time? Supposedly he killed 50 000 of his own men by hand. That's how a real king takes care of business.

Henry seems to prefer his method: a teary heart to heart where he promises all will be well, only to have the guards show up moments later to take the poor unfortunate dope off to the tower. Jeeze...

Take Cromwell for instance. Henry says to him "no matter what anyone says behind your back, you're still my first minister!"

And then in the next scene he is arrested for treason.

Please god, send Alexander the Great from Greece and through time to kick Henry's lying ass

WTF?
