UNDEAD, the buzz-building Australian zombie shocker, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Lions Gate. Written, produced and directed by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, UNDEAD is set in a fishing village where a meteor shower awakens an army of zombies, and a small group of survivors is left to battle the flesheating hordes. The movie was just rated R “for strong violence and gore, and for language”; there’s no word yet on whether Lions Gate, which has been snapping up most of the more exciting recent indie horrors, will give this one a theatrical release or make it a video debut. Either way, East Coast fans can catch the movie this weekend at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival, and it will also be part of the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness series in September.

I was just happy I even finally got to see May, and I feel the same about Undead. I'll be angry about any lack of extra features on the DVD later.

YES!!! I'm rather annoyed that it's not playing at The Egyptian Theater's scifi-and-whatnot festival, but hopefully we'll be able to see it ere long. How about a Halloween release, guys?

This film is slick enough looking to fool mainstream America into thinking this is a big budget release. I fucking wish a solid company, or even Fox Searchlight, would have picked this up and pimped it out. I have shown the trailer to a lot of non-horror fans and they had pretty enthusiastic responses. I hope this doesn't get dumped.

YEAH, if I like it tomorrow (Undead; 17:00; Concordia University; FantAsia), I will be able to buy it a few months after!

I just want to see it. If it's bare bones, at least you have a good movie. And if it turns out to be a crappy movie, then no need to watch any extras. Win-win scenario.
Amen brother. I just want to see it.

Lion's Gate pretty much rule Planet Earth right now! They just continue to pick up every flick I'm interested in (with the noteable exception of BUBBA HO-TEP). They're by far the most horror-fanboy-friendly studio out there!

Now if only they'd release the UNCUT version of HO1KC and not the R-rated cut! Cool as they might be, they are not entirely without flaws ...
