UNDEAD, the buzz-building Australian zombie shocker, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Lions Gate. Written, produced and directed by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, UNDEAD is set in a fishing village where a meteor shower awakens an army of zombies, and a small group of survivors is left to battle the flesheating hordes. The movie was just rated R “for strong violence and gore, and for language”; there’s no word yet on whether Lions Gate, which has been snapping up most of the more exciting recent indie horrors, will give this one a theatrical release or make it a video debut. Either way, East Coast fans can catch the movie this weekend at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival, and it will also be part of the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness series in September.
