These "free to download and play" MMOs keep catching my eye, and almost every single one has options to pay to get better functionality or better items. So yeah, you can play for free, but you'll be behind the curve of everyone who opts to pay.

That Requiem game has a terrible name, but looks kinda sweet. Thanks, Jacob. I'm gonna give some of these a shot. And The Suffering is totally worth it. Not the greatest game ever, but some fucked up shit is going on in there. Also, Psi-Ops is really damn fun for like 3/4ths of it.
