The set finally got a solid release date. Doesn't look like the CBS special is included and there's a handful of music cue changes.

Still, it's coming and it's loaded with special features.

The State was simply one of the sharpest, funniest, and most under-rated shows of the 1990's. Originally created as MTV's first foray into the sketch comedy genre, The State was a comedic gem that rocked Generation X with slapstick, smarts and witty sarcasm. The dynamic cast features 11 multi-talented actors that have continued to collaborate on such projects as RENO 911!, STELLA, VIVA VARIETY and WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER. MTV's timeless sketch comedy show, The State, is finally here.

DVD Features:

* Commentary
* Pilot Episode (with Commentary)
* Unaired Sketches (with Commentary)
* Additional Scenes: Outtakes
* Featurette: Special Appearances
* Interview: Origins
* Interview: Roles
* Interview: Feedback
* Interview: Catchphrases
* Other Interviews
* DVD-ROM: Commentary
* Promos
* Previews

And the only thing that could be more exciting than LotR being announced on Blu-Ray has arrived. Excellent, excellent news; glad they worked out some of that music licensing bullshit that's held them up for this long (or so the story goes). And because of that, I will not believe this exists until I have it spinning in my DVD player.

Nice. I just wonder if it's gonna live up to my memories of it. The Sea Monkey sketch is still referenced in my circle of friends.

The State on DVD? I can't wait to dip my balls in it.

This is fucking awesome so far. I'm only through the first disc, but it definitely seems like it's up there with some of the best 90s sketch tv shows (Kids In The Hall, Upright Citizens Brigade, Ben Stiller Show, Mr.Show).

I have vague memories of liking it on TV when I was 10-11, but I didn't see enough episodes to make a deep impression beyond the opening credits and the talking sandwich. Viva Variety, however, I saw every episode of about 5 times. That was a heavy Comedy Central period for me.

So far, Showalter is the clear standout. Black is a little hit and miss so far, though I do like Captain Jack.

What kills me is just how much the first season relied on current MTV bits, while the later seasons branched out on their own.

Plus, there's the creamy, creamy clam chowder bit. Still makes me laugh.

I cannot wait for this.

Upright Citizens Brigade has two seasons on DVD, in case anyone missed it the first time. Pre-SNL Amy Poehler.

To me, Marino and Lennon own this. The best sketch utility players since Phil Hartman.

The Cortese ripoff character in episode 2 or 3 absolutely killed me.

I finished the set and most of the extras. Some episodes were hit and miss, but when you have some of the most bizarre and nonsensical sketch comedy I've ever seen filmed, I don't expect total consistency. "Actually, I still think you're wrong about the beards, though." makes up for any and all missteps.

One sketch that I haven't seen mentioned in people's favorites is "Dream Boy". Kevin Allison had me just about crying in that one. Make sure to watch the outtakes for that and "Roughing It" if you have the DVD.

The unaired sketches on Disc 5 contains several gems as well. Even if a sketch totally nosedives, it's usually saved by at least one character.

Ordered this from DeepDiscount for $29, can't wait to get this. It's been so long since I watched this show.

I'm already on the 3rd disc - some of these haven't aged well but a few are just classics. I especially love the Muppet sketch. Joe LoTruglio does a killer Gilbert Gottfried impersonation, and Lennon nearly steals every scene he's in.

On disc one, and this is still funny. I wasn't sure if it would be, but lots of these bits are killing me.
