Pulitzer Prizes 2009

This was the first year that online publications/editions of papers were eligible, and the NY Times actually won one for its Spitzer coverage, "posted first on its website."

Damon Winter, the guy who took some of the more famous Obama photos, including the Chester, PA rally (the "pointing in the rain" rally, won for feature photography).

This is the second year in a row that the award for Fiction has been somewhat out of left field (meaning it went to a book that hadn't won the National Book Award or was on the rumored shortlist). Although "Olive Kitteridge" features the same character through the book, it's described on the website as a collection of short stories, making it the first Fiction winner since 2000 ("Interpreter of Maladies") to win as a collection rather than a novel.

Also, Into the Heights was on the shortlist for Drama, to which I say "ell oh ell."

I'm glad American Lion won, although I would have liked to see Lincoln: Biography of a Writer take it. Both are great.
