Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series

According to the Digital Bits we should be seeing it in July. It's already available on Amazon on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Yeah, buying this. I haven't seen past midway of Season 2, but I know this is a must own. It includes RAZOR as well, I'm not sure if the webisodes are in there, but I'd be surprised if they weren't.

But it won't have THE PLAN. This is a pretty shoddy move, I think.

Dammit, I always miss something. I'll probably just have to grab that separately.
I hope Universal gets around to releasing the seasons separately on Blu. I highly doubt that my wife would look favorably on me dropping $250 on a TV series...at least all at once.

No release date for Season 4.5 yet? If they don't release 4.5 separately I might have to choke a bitch.
Actually, 4.5 is dropping the same day the complete series is (July 28) on both standard DVD and Blu.

How lame. For a minute there I was actually considering buying this even without owning a Blu-Ray player.

Here's a look at the box art. Nice!

Anyone pick this up? I need to buy seasons 4 and 4.5 yet, and am thinking about trading in the first three season and picking this up instead since it would end up costing about the same. Was just wondering if this was worth it or if I should just stick with the regular box sets.

Just got this about two weeks ago, and in a word -- stunning.

Seriously, the show never looked this good even on the Universal HD broadcasts. When you watch Ron Moore's introduction where he says that Blu-Ray is the only way to watch this show, you'll know he speaks truth to power. I held off on buying Seasons 4.0 and 4.5 separately, figuring I'd put the money into this set, and I'm glad I did.

But the two only real beefs I have are that The Face of the Enemy webisodes (which are vital to understanding the motivations behind Gaeta and Zarek's rebellion in S4, IMO) and The Plan aren't included in this set -- a huge, glaring oversight on Universal's part in the case of the former, though perhaps more explainable in the case of the latter. Though maybe they could've held off a few more months until after this last movie airs; after all, Razor is included, but this one isn't?

(Also...where is "The Last Frakkin' Special," Uni? That one was a total no-brainer, too.)

Still, well worth the dough.

Inconceivable they would not include the Face of the Enemy. I hope they have the Webisodes from Razor...

Speaking of Razor, the non-HD/Blue Ray version has pretty jarring transitions between the interior scenes (grainy) and the space scenes (crystal clear). Is that the case with the Blu Ray version?
There's a tiny bit of grain present in the Blu-Ray version, but it's often not widely known that it was all added in post-production -- the series was shot digitally in HD, but deliberately "grained-up" during editing to achieve a quasi-documentary feel.

Having compared the two Razor versions, though, there's definitely more on the DVD version than on the BD, or at least it seems that way.

EDIT: Yes, the Razor Flashback webisodes are all there too, along with The Resistance webisodes from Season 3. Which makes the omission of The Face of the Enemy all the more jarring.

One more quick thing:

Just read through Bill Hunt's review of the Complete Series BD set, and he says that Universal IS aware that lots of folks have been clamoring for The Face of the Enemy webisodes, and that there are plans afoot to release them on disc at some point (preferably with some of the other omitted stuff, like the Best Buy-exclusive Razor doco?). Maybe next year in a final mega-set, after sales on The Plan level off. That's just my own speculation, obviously.

Fingers crossed.

So how are the extended versions of the 4.5 episodes? Island in a stream of stars and the finale, Daybreak. Apparently there is an extra 30 minute to Daybreak.
Has anybody had any trouble with any of their discs? I picked up the blu-ray set last week, and everything seemed to be fine, but I just got to disc four of Season 2 today, and the disc completely shits itself 17 minutes into Black Market. It's so bad that it's actually completely crashed my PC twice. There are some scratches on the disc itself, but none of them look severe enough to be causing this sort of problem.
Hmmm... well you WERE watching the Black Market episode... it could just be trying to tell you something.

But I wanted to know if anyone has seen any of the complete series box sets on Blu-Ray anywhere? I haven't seen any since we got TWO in back in August and BestBuy.ca nor Future Shops website has it listed. But I do see that Amazon finally has it listed. Good times! I just need to clear my Visa off....

Battlestar Galactica - New Complete Series DVD and Blu Sets Include The Plan, Changes Boxes, Lowers Cost

As you know, late this past July saw Universal's release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc of Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series, in cube-shaped Limited Edition packaging which included a Cylon Centurion action figure enclosed in a special compartment at the top. That was before the studio released the follow-up direct to video film The Plan, though, so many folks jokingly refer to the release as "The Incomplete Series. Since it was only available as a limited edition, the studio has since taken it out of print.

Today Universal has announced a new repackaged re-issue of Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series. Studio material about the new releases say that this version of "The Complete Series also includes the unrated, extended feature-length movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan." Pictures of the new "unlimited" packaging aren't available just yet, but the studio descriptions say the DVD will be in "Slim Snap Cases with an Outer Box" and the high-def Blu-ray version will be "Digipaks with an Outer Box".

Also of interest is the new lower cost. Despite the addition of The Plan to the disc count, the more standardized packaging is significantly reducing the prices on the new versions. The DVDs previously had been $279.98 SRP on the limited-package set, but the new box will bring the price down to $199.98 SRP. The story is similar on the Blu-ray side: instead of the old $349.98 SRP price tag, the new high-def release in the low-key package is just $299.98 SRP. No on-disc content has been removed, from what we've seen so far; they've added The Plan and simplified the packaging.

Note, though, that there is no word yet about the "Face of the Enemy" webisodes which, like The Plan, was also missing from the previous Complete Series set. If we find out anything, either way, we'll let you know. These re-issues will be available to own on April 6th, the same day as the individual Season 2 Blu-ray release. Stay tuned and we'll bring you pictures of the new package art, just as soon as we can!
Glad I couldn't afford the complete series on Blu-Ray when it first came out.

And I was just about to go out and purchase it too. I'm waiting for this now.
