Dead Snow?

Dead Snow website

Anyone seen this yet? I watched it last night with a fan-made English subtitle track, and I'm not normally the biggest horror wonk in the world, but it was really really entertaining. It reminded me of Shock Waves, but far less cheesy :P

Never heard of Shock Waves?

movie info

Germal trailer for Shock Waves

I heard about this from a friend who enjoyed it. He said it turns into a more tongue-in-cheek type movie towards the end with hilarity and action ensuing. I dig Shock Waves a lot, so I'm probably going to try and check this one out soon.

Movie is a complete piece of shit. And Mike, I'm assuming you watched a pirate copy of this as it hasn't been released in the US yet. We frown on posting about your piracy.

I didn't like it at all, but I'm sure there are plenty here who will eat it up. Lots of Evil Dead references, a few good gags but pretty dumb overall.

I thought it was a pretty fun little flick. Like I said, I am by no means an educated Horror afficiando. A friend of mine got it and thought it was fun so we watched. I'll try to restrict my film talk to movies that I've seen legitimately from now on.

Ignore Devin. He's just parrotting the McWeeny party line on piracy (which is...hypocritical, to say the least) as part of his ongoing campaign to stave off his increasing irrelevancy in the blogosphere.

<sigh> let's not make this into another "Devin VS the world" thread. I am happy to oblige, and I don't think he was unreasonable to ask given the witch hunts going on right now by Fox et. al. I really just wanted to hear what other people who've managed to see this movie thought of it as all.

This is the Nazi zombie thing right? The trailer looked pretty amusing. Really that bad?

Devin mentioned in an article that

I'm not going to mince words here: I hated Dead Snow. I wanted to walk out of the comedic Nazi zombie movie twenty minutes in. And while I still haven't finished my review of this terrible film, I carry the pain of sitting through the movie with me every day.

But just because I thought it was a particularly unfunny, tedious and obvious rip-off of the early works of Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi doesn't mean everybody agrees.
(from here)

I haven't seen any of the movies that Dead Snow rips off (except Army of Darkness), so I don't have that basis to compare it, but I found it silly and fun. We had a pile of people at my house playing board games (the new Battlestar Galactica game is fantastic!) and we broke off to drink and watch this. It could have been the rum and companionship, but everyone was laughing and having a good time. We're none of us even close to being horror film fans, so take that with a grain of salt.

Ludwig, I think you hit the nail on the head. You were able to enjoy DEAD SNOW because you hadn't been exposed to the films that it was derivative of. Nothing wrong with that. I actually had a blog specifically about this topic.

I understand that you're not a horror fan, but if you enjoyed DEAD SNOW that much I'd think it could be your gateway drug, sending you back to the classics that inspired it.

Wow, you nailed something there.

yay Gateway Drugs!

I'll start another thread about recommendations for suggestions for a n00b. Horror is a genre I stopped watching when I was 13-14, so my last exposure was Friday the 13th IV and one of the earlier Nightmare on Elm Street movies :/

Ha. And what does that mean exactly?

I just think you're very right.

Well thank you, sir. A very handsome opinion. I was falsely conjecturing sarcasm. That was my first ever forum post. I have much to learn.
