(2) resembling or suggestive of the conditions described in Ballard’s novels & stories, esp. dystopian modernity, bleak man-made landscapes & the psychological effects of technological, social or environmental developments.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised it took over a day for this to get mentioned here. I can't say I've read a ton of the guy's work, but Crash, Concrete Island, and High-Rise strike such an amazing balance between terror and prescience.

I just got back from studying and right now I'm gonna check the interweb. I found about this at AICN. I love his work.
