Cops should no longer be allowed to carry tasers. If you can't arrest someone without electrocuting them, you shouldn't be a cop.

Incredible, what do you have to do to get fired by the police department???

And just what we needed, a more powerful taser gun! Can fire 3 shots without reloading ...

New Taser device can shock three

Though it's true that some cops abuse the use of Tasers, in most cases it's the alternative to using a firearm, the asp (extendable baton) or even fists which can obviously all be deadly.

I recently completed a 9 month correctional officer course. In one class, we had to play "bad guy" and resist arrest while 3 classmates try to put cuffs on you. I'm 5'7" and it took about 10 minutes of struggling for the other guys (all 5'10"-6'1") to put them on me. I was drenched in sweat and black and blue the next day, but it proves what kind of struggle someone can put up. And i wasn't as determined as a real bad guy would be. We were told that two previous years ago, a student was pierced through a cheek with an open cuff.

As for the naked wizard video. He asked for it:

1. Cops enforce laws, they don't make them. He wasn't allowed to be naked there. If they had let it go, someone might have complained that they saw a naked guy there and the cops were ignoring him. Then they get suspended.

2. They asked him politely and repeatedly to put his clothes back on, that if he complied they wouldn't even arrest him.

3. They went to put the cuffs on him, he resisted. It actually is safer for the cops and the guy to get tasered then to get into a fight. Broken arm, ribs, stolen gun. It's also best to get it over quick when there's a hostile crowd surrounding you. They shouldn't even have let that woman approach him.

4. He was tasered several times because it had little effect on him either because they were "tuned down" or he had a natural immunity to it. I'd rather get tasered than pepper sprayed: we were sprayed at school and it was the worst goddamn thing I ever went through. Ain't like in the movies...worse.

Did you know that the cops in Southern California make over 140k a year + retirement. Being a cop or firefights in LA is being a multimillionaire.

Yeah, but a bungalow will set you back 2 million down there.

No links to Stephen Colbert's recent bit on a great-grandmother getting tasered? Slack, people.

At least as I remember it the order of escalation used to be: Verbal, manual, mace, baton, gun. Taser's introduction for a lot of cops meant that they can now skip every stage between ordering a subject to comply and shooting him. It's a combination of poor training and cowardice.

The lesson here seems to be - Don't run afoul of the police at any time for any reason or you run a high risk of being tased.

"Mobile officer on admin. duty after man tasered"
http://www.wtvm.com/Global/story.asp?S=10818735

Quote:
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Mobile police officer who was involved in an incident where pepper spray and a Taser were used on a deaf and mentally disabled man has been put on administrative duty.

Mobile police gave out a statement Wednesday saying the officer's identity was not being released at this time and that the family of 37-year-old Antonio Love has filed a formal complaint with the department.

The officer used pepper spray and tasered Love while removing him from a Dollar General store bathroom where employees said he had been for more than an hour.

They then discovered Love was hearing impaired and was unable to communicate with officers while in the bathroom. They attempted to have him booked on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a police officer, but a magistrate refused.
