Break from horror?

Does anyone, at some point in the year, find themselves taking a little break from horror? I don't mean like completely forgetting about it, just getting obsessed with another film from another genre, like you usually would a horror film. I know I find myself at one point every year, finding a new hobby but I always go back to horror at some point. Am I just not that big of a fan or does this happen to anyone else?

I wouldn't necessarily call it a break from all horror, but I will usually go through week long binges on certain branches of the genre ...

There's so much horror to watch, so ( for example ) I'll be very into black and white films like CAPE FEAR, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER and PSYCHO , then I'll get into the Asian stuff like DARK WATER or THE EYE, then maybe some Argento for a week or so ...

As far as taking a break from horror in general; yep, I suppose that'll happen .... I actually went through a comedy phase, watching Woody Allen and Todd Solondz films, and GHOST WORLD a bunch of times .... I love Woody Allen films ..... Comedy is a tough one for me because eventhough I love to laugh, I find most comedies completely unfunny and too scripted .... oh well ...

Anyways, hang in there ZZ, it's natural to take a break every now and then ... Maybe just go to the fringe and watch stuff that is not quite horror, but borderline / thriller / drama like MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, EYES OF LAURA MARS, WARRIORS, MS .45 or WOMAN IN THE DUNES ....

Variety is the best way to go, makes for a more satisfying life ...

I think taking occasional breaks from ANY hobby can only be a healthy thing.

For a while there I got scared, I thought I may not be as big of a fan as I thought I was! Because I want to be, but when I've been watching horror films lately, Im just not getting the same feeling I usually get when I watch a film. I think I just need a break.

I never pertain to any one genre. Well, there might be one week or so I spend immersed in films of one type, but usually I balance it out based on mood.

As much as I love it, I couldn't spend all my time watching horror, I'd be omitting way too many other great movies.

I take frequent breaks from Hollywood drama, comedy, and action.

NEVER from horror or exploitation.

Well, maybe since you are so immersed with so many other genres, you dont watch pure horror therefore you never need breaks.

Well, I rather give myself a break from [often disappointing] long features by watching all kinds of short films.

Short films are... well... shorter, so they tend to be less disappointing, are easier to watch more often and bring into the fold a lot of incredible ideas totally out of reach of longer features.

I think my problem is I am REALLY getting fed up with this Argento-pseudo horror. I mean, horror films are just getting more and more dissapointing these days. Except for May, I dont think I have seen a decent modern horror film for years. And Argento, I love his stuff, but his films are just not HORROR films. They're more like dramas with people dying. I dont know, my feelings will probably pass but for now, theyre here to stay.

I think it's perfectly fine/normal to take a break from horror. If we didn't, we'd miss out on some terrific films like "Road to Perdition" or "The Shawshank Redemption" or "From Justin to Kelly."

OK maybe not that last one but you get the picture.

I never stop watching horror but then I never stop watching any genre, except chick flicks, don't get into them at all. My obsession reaches every corner of film I can get my hands and eyes on. If this forum were open to other genres I'd be discussing them as well but I'm perfectly happy keeping it to horror movies as I am particularly obsessed with them.

[EDIT]

Seek help, there's something wrong with you. wink

It's not something I think about. I watch a lot of movies, any style. I'm not going to get fed up on any one genre. Maybe I'll say "never again" to a particular director (Fulci, for example) or actor (Steven Seagal). I do make it a point to see big effects movies and horror in the theater cuz they're not the same at home. Sometimes I'm disappointed, but I see it as the genre's fault.

Sure I watch another type of movie, comedy, martial arts, etc. But my primay movie type is horror.

I'd say about 90% of my movie diet is horror.
