Are we possibly going to witness the return of boobies to the horror film with this one?
Now that is more like it! At least we get some kine of feeling of what the movie is about, instead of that teaser that showed and told NOTHING. Nice.

That tagline has to go, though.
Much, much better - though I didn't mind the first trailer either. When Lions Gate likes a film they really know how to promote it.

(And yes, there's boobs. Cerina Vincent bares some skin.) wink
post #5 of 26
Ah I gotta agree with Ryan and Johnny....a huge improvement--I actually can see some of the movie This is my most anticipated film for the rest of the year, I can't wait.
The first trailer was kinda lacking. I knew of the film from the fabulous Corner, but I know I had that trailer on many films a couple of months ago at my theatre and I don't think it was winning alot of people over. Most people had no idea what it was about. I think this one will get a lot more people interested.
And the tag line might not be that great...but I'll say again--that's the best poster of this year. Got it on my wall already!

I am definately interested, and Roth seems cooler than nachos, but they couldn't have picked a more fucked up group of actors. Maybe Roth is a genius and he chose them intentionally because there is no way I can take any of them seriously, or maybe I still won't be able to do it. Who knows? I guess I will find out if this gets a good wide release.

Though it's a cabin fever thread, I won't say anything. Just this once.

Jamie,

I appreciate your sentiments - no one likes to see a bland padding of T & A & Eeeeugh in lieu of a good story and well rounded characters and (most importantly) scares. But for someone who's always telling folk to always wait and see what, say, Alien Vs Predator the finished picture will be like before judging it, aren't you being a little harsh on these two pictures you haven't yet seen ?

Yes, the trailer has these moments of titlation - it is, afterall, a trailer meant to entice people to see the picture. And like it or not, those are the selling points of exploitation. But don't you think it has the potential to rise above that ? Like any film has ? Hence your admirable notion to let the actual picture speak for itself. (and this isn't a direct attack on you - people have been saying the same thing correctly to those in the TCM remake thread. You're just the dissenting voice here, that's all.)

Out of interest, how do you correlate the following:

Interview With The Vampire - gore, nudity

Bram Stokers Dracula - gore, nudity

Resident Evil - (awful CGI) gore, Jovovich money shot...

You get the idea.

I realise they're studio films and hence maybe more sheened, but the same elements are there. Don't you think you may be giving them a rough ride based on your viewings of other low budget pictures you haven't got on with ? There are some low budget pictures you have got on with afterall.

Serious question. No malice or sarcasm etc etc tc...

People, don't be fooled, go see Cabin Fever for what it truly is : a splatter comedy.

You'll see, it's fun. Yes, it has its dramatic moments, but these just fall away into pieces.

Be honest : you're going in for the thrills, not for the brains. Then you won't be disappointed like I was.

Oh, expectations... they always ruin your fun! wink

It's just a very funny, quirky, well made shocker with some great characters in it. No vaccuous teens. Real characters.

So I don't confuse anyone, that was meant as a lighthearted jab rather than a right upper cut KO, so take it as that Honestly, that was as lighthearted as I can get.

But what my meaning is.....I am getting really sick of bad horror movies with nude chicks and lots of gore being praised like it's a whole savior of horror thing. I would honestly prefer these movies not being made at all. But while people go and verbally destroy big, studio movies that actually try to be serious about the subject, or as serious as you can get by not flooding it with pointless gore or nudity, just because it is a studio flick, and then endlessly prasing indy flicks that are not very good horror films but work as splatter comedys, just because it is indy and not some megabucks studio is tiring.

I know that might sound a bit confusing, but does anyone get what I am saying? Then again, some people are into the splatter-comedy fests which is ok with me, but it's hard finding any serious horor films now a days.
the movie isn't even out yet. i could understand all this thinking if you had seen it already.
I think somehow over the last few years I've learned enough about my own expectations that I've been able to manage them long before I sit down in the theatres, so that way i'm RARELY disappointed with what I get (unless it just sucks ass, which does happen).

Everything about this film has me excited, especially Eli Roth, everyone should read his interview in Rue Morgue...you'll learn that he's a true horror fan...and those are the people I want making my horror films.

I would like to state that neither gore nor nudity is pointless in a horror movie, thank you.

Cheers!

Heh heh heh... I always love your post man.

That just cracked me up, thanks.

Thank god I wasn't drinking anything.

Cheers!

When is this coming out again?

Man that big bunny freaks me out.

Cheers!
I dunno, perhaps I've MST3K'd myself into enjoying damn near everything, but I love me pointless gore and yes, I do enjoy blood soaked boobies.

But I hear you on your need for a serious toned flick. But it seems to me that there are plenty of those around.

Gimme that fun flick that shows me the money shots AND has mood to spare as well as some genuinely funny moments and I'm a happy camper.

It's all in context, but films like Reanimator and Dead Alive aim to be over the top in all categories. And I love every inch of them for going the distance. If I have a chance to see something like that on a screen as big as my house then I am so all over that.

I love the deeply serious intellectual stuff to no end as well, don’t get me wrong, but damnit, if I can't enjoy a sleeping bag bashing then what am I doing here?

[edited to add the following]
How about a quicktime version? All I get is a slide show and a lot of screaming. I hate yahoo clips. They never work.

I'll see it for the bunny alone

I'm keeping myself in the dark with this one

Actually, I don't think Cabin Fever characters are anything close to being "realistic". They are all dumber than most of the characters I've seen in other movies. All of them.

Want any examples?

***Spoiler alert***

- Why don't they ever GET OUT and WALK seriously somewhere out of this dumb backwood village? Of course they try, but a few mistakes happen and there they go : BACK TO THE SOURCE OF INFECTION. I call that dumb and unrealistic.

- Would you shave if you were ill? No, you would go to a doctor.

- Would you go out and shoot squirrels for pure fun while drinking beer? Man, I hope most of you guys don't, 'cause it's plain stupid.

- Would you run out with beer to a nearby place knowing you might catch the disease if you stayed around?

- Do you seriously think LISTERINE can kill infectious bacterias?

The list goes on and on...

***END OF SPOILER AREAS***

I personally believe Cabin Fever's characters are as remote from reality as it can be. If they are acting like real american people though, you've got me scared to death : never will I cross the US border again... hey, I might be mistaken for something else and shot at, you know!

28 Days Later's characters are more of the believable type.

There's also a big difference between realistic and believable. Is a big school for burgeoning mutants realistic ? No. Is it believable in the context of X2 ? Absolutely.

Are the events that unfold in Cabin Fever realistic ? No, they're hyperreal - exagerated reality. Are they carried out in a logical, albeit stylised and sometimes blackly comic way way ? I think so. and if they merely walked out and went to a doctor's, well, there wouldn't be any film now would there.

***SPOILERS AHEAD, BEWARE!!!!***

Indeed Strax, but I think there are better ways for that to happen. Like the fever or some fever-hunting gunslingers quickly closing on the group or something.

But that doesn't happen soon enough and the characters could easily have walked out and gone to the doctor. Why don't they do so?

They should have tried harder instead of fooling around like idiots. And be pushed back harder too, to demonstrate the fever's power. You know, that's why EVIL DEAD is cool. The characters first realize they cannot run, then show an immense will to fight. And they win some important battles, even if they are defeated in the end.

In Cabin Fever, nothing really prevents the characters from walking away and get to a phone or something, except maybe the lack of intelligence. Then, when the time comes, only the main character fights with some brains, but it's already too late... you know he's going down the drain twenty minutes before the end.

I hate that.

Anyway, it's only my opinion.

Jeeze, it seems to me that there have been plenty of 'serious' horror films lately... The Ring and 28 Days Later being two of the more recent ones

And I find it strange that you supposedly want "serious" horror films yet you're in other threads bashing 'The Shining' and 'The Exorcist'... I mean you don't get much more serious than that. I guess I'm just confused as to what exactly it is you want.

i see you've never lived in a small town. trust me their are people of the squirrel shooting variety.
Lol, I second that. I'm ashamed to say that I'm friends with a few 'squirrel shooters' and may or may not have participated in the activity myself

(by the way, I am NOT from the south, I'm from upstate New York, but small towns and bored teenagers are sort of a universal bunch I find)
