Film School Textbooks Q's

I debated for almost three days whether to post this in "Movie Miscellany" or here, but I figured I'd rather not risk being told I'm posting in the wrong place so here I am.

Anyways, I'm interested in purchasing a few film school textbooks, mostly with the ones that encompass the history of film, and an overview of techniques. I know some people here are or were in film school, so if you can recall what books are really good, I'd appreciate it!!

Thanks in advance!

David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson's "Film Art" is probably the most common/comprehensive, based on what you're looking for. They also wrote "Film History", but go to your local college bookstore and tell them you want the latest edition of Bordwell and Thompson. They'll know what you're talking about.
