If Thelma Schoonmaker tells you how to edit a film, that's how you edit a film!

This whole saga has been fascinating. I hope they release some cut of it into at least one theater before it's all said and done.

This sounds completely nuts. Three years? Did he not have any idea where he wanted to go with this piece before he started?

What would be cool, is if this movie turns out to be really interesting, and we somehow get to see all of these different cuts one day ...kind of a Blade Runner type thing.

I remember the coverage of this forever ago. I guess I'm wrong remembering a trailer, but you guys covered it, this is the movie revolving around a bus crash or something?

Was interested in it at a time. this ongoing drama is kind of bizarre.

I'll believe we'll never see it before I believe it's terrible. Been looking forward to this one for, well, quite a bit. Sucks that it's holding KL from doing other stuff. Or that he's now insane and that's holding him back.

Not after THE DEPARTED you don't. This is both terrible and awe-inspiring. With Mingella and Pollack dead, it gets even more twisty. This could be THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED for the 21st century, which would be sorta awesome. But that Kenneth Lonergan can't stop tinkering makes this all the more amazing. Too much cinema has a sell-by date, but all art is about letting go, one wonders if he's close to a masterpiece, or if he shit the bed. Not knowing makes it all the more exciting.

Absolutely. Lonergan's throwing off some serious Billy Walsh vibes with this. It's kind of tragic, really. I hope he can straighten his head out soon before he goes nuts. If he hasn't already.

Anna Paquin will be going through a mid-life crisis by the time this thing comes out.

Too bad that Lonergan is seemingly Coppola-ing out. I hope some coherent version of this gets out, or, worse case scenario, Lonergan's original screenplay gets published.

This film just suddenly came to my mind and I decided to look it up.  2011 and still no sign of a release.  Madness.  MADNESS.  Looks like Damon is kinda getting what he wanted.  Though, now I'm curious as to why he thought Schoonmaker's editing in The Departed wasn't up to snuff.

I guess I'll have to check out that film's thread too.

Fox Searchlight states: “we do have a finished cut by Lonergan and we plan to release the film sometime in 2011.”

There is still hope (however slim)!

I went on a fifteen minute Google hunt before I read the older part of the thread and realized you weren't talking about Matt Damon.

I totally meant to post on April 1st that I had seen a rough cut of this movie.

Oh damn, Bailey. Sorry about the mixup. I had considered that my post could be misconstrued, but I got lazy and left it as is.

My own fault.  I should have read the thread from the beginning (along with Devin's old article) rather than instantly looking for evidence of a Matt Damon/Thelma Schoonmaker dustup.

What can I say, I crave scandal!

Really look forward to seeing this. Lonergan is an interesting figure.
