TMNT comics

Thread Starter
When I was a young teen, I had found a TMNT comic at a nearby bookstore. I was very surprised at the time at how violent the comic was compared to the TV show. It was the Volume 1 story Silent Partner (gotta live Wikipedia).

Unfortunately, I lost the comic many years ago. The recent news about a new film made want to read the original comic series but they're out of print. I find this very strange, considering the success of the brand.

I'm surprised well, I had a "graphic novel" of the first series of Turtle Comics, very very violent indeed. I should have this sucker SOMEWHERE..

On a side note, I did find the first comic on E-bay with a score of 9.8 going for 14 grand..I mean wow 14 grand?! really?..

YEA! I been looking for the thread for that article that Devin posted. Did I just obliviously stumble past it? Probably.

FUCK yea. The original graphic novels are the jump off. I still have the original four, with book #1 being in just tattered condition, cause I bought it when I was a little mishka and I had no idea what incredible piece of work I had in my grubby little mitts.

The foot soldiers were real dudes, not gay ass robots. That first rooftop battle with the army of foot soldiers was so vicious. The turtles were covered in blood by the end. Then Leo runs Shredder through, tells him to commit suicide, and Donatello smashes his face with his bo and throws him off the project roof when he tries to set off a grenade.

Fucking RAD.

If we could get a live-action movie, based on these books (Baxter Stockman has to be black) I would be the happiest gal in the neighborhood. I know it's all the rage now to make heroes darker, but shit, the Turtles started off like that.

Then Archie Comics came along and made them soft squeezable cuddle buddies. But don't get it twisted, I collected all of those too.

Turtle Power.

As a kid, I always assumed that Shredder was the over-arching villain of the comic series (As he was in the tv show, and movie), so imagine my surprise when Shredder is killed off in the first issue.

I only read the first seven issues of the original series, but is he ever referenced again? TMNT is one of those odd cases where I enjoy the villains more than the heroes.

The Shredder comes back in Leonardo #1 and that story continues in TMNT #10. Then he shows up during the RETURN TO NEW YORK arc(19-21). That's About it for him.

Just finished reading that first edition from the online link for the first time in about 17 years or more. What a fun cracking little story it was. I'd love to see the new film harken back to those turtles ratehr than the kids cartoon version that took the world by storm. Can't see it happening tho.
