Anyone reading RASL?

The next set of issues are coming out soon:

I really love the premise of this series, and the execution has been very good so far. It is really different than Bone or any of his other works, but different is not bad.

Issue Four just came out the other day. I'm going to read it today. Jeff Smith is always solid and this story so far is great. RASL looks like the lead singer of ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead.

haha, I never thought of that, but you're right!

It's Jeff Smith, so it's well done. That said, I've never been able to get over the sense that Smith is trying too hard to be "dark" and "edgy", and with his cartoony drawings it's sort of coming off as the comics equivalent of a bad teenage mustache.

Not to say it isn't a hell of a lot of fun, of course. I just wish it came out more often.

Yeah the first issue threw me off a bit too; I wasn't anticipating people fucking in a Jeff Smith book. But I love the premise, and the art continues to be unique and fun.

It's not just the fucking, it's the whole attitude...there's a shot of Rasl in the first issue baring his BADASS TATTOO that actually made me giggle. He literally came off as a teenager trying to be cool. That spirit sort of continues over to the whole book.

Or it did. The story's finding a groove now, even if I'm a little confused about all the "naval experiment" stuff in the new issue. And "Sal" is legitimately, skin-crawlingly creepy.

Sal is definitely creepy. I'm really enjoying the series, even if I have very little idea of what's going on...

The little girl who appeared towards the end of #4 out-creeps him, though. Whew.

I think it's still settling into place, pacing-wise...the first couple issues seemed more meandering (in a good way) but suddenly we've been getting some backstory, stuff I previously would've expected to learn by issue #10 or so.

Fun series so far which I am hooked into right now. Although, I really love the oversized trade of the first 3 issues. Picked up 4 yesterday, and got to love the references to the Philadelphia Experiment and Tesla.
