X-Men: The Animated Series

90s Cartoon Wolverine > Jackman

Such a mixed bag. Some parts are perfect. Some parts make trepination sound good.

It's actually not that bad, as far as kiddie cartoons go. The X-Men are mostly in-character, which is the really important thing.

The best part was the theme tune/opening credits. Even though it's a trashy Saturday morning cartoon song, the theme is better than any piece of music in the movies, and I enjoy a lot of the little character introductions as their names appear. Beast removing his glasses, putting down his book and smiling warmly at the "camera" was especially ingratiating.

Out of all the X-Men cartoons, I'd say my favorite is the current one. The first season storyline crams in just about every classic plot thread from the books which is a little schizo, but at least it's never boring. The roster is pretty huge too. Sorta like JLU for muties. (Now if only they could use Havok in a cool way...)

The animation is run by one of the guys who worked on Batman: The Animated Series, so the character design is quite good and flows well enough for TV animation. One thing I hated about the 90s version was the animation. It was so crappy, that I couldn't really watch the show.

I'm about to watch the 3-part season finale while I eat my dinner. I'm not sure how they're going to juggle Dark Phoenix, Days of Future Past AND Apokalips and Archangel all into one coherent plot, but hopefully it will be an entertaining mess.

Here is an alternative to seeing the new and crappy X Men Origin: Wolverine movie. I like the young squaw version of Silver Fox better than the movie version.

Weapon X, Lies, and Video Tape!!

I'm watching the two-parter right now. It's a bit clunky, but Wolverine is such a bastard in this. Still preferring it over X-Men: Evolution.

The animation in X-Men Evolution was ok, but man, was that a boring show. Nothing ever happened.

"You slime suckin dirtbag, you gotta lotta guts comin up heeear, Sabretooth."
"That's no way to greet your old partner, runt, after all" *head tilt* "we've been through."
"Looogaaan..."

Yes, perfect, that's a take!

X-Men The Animated Series is the most...X-Cellent take on Marvel's Mutant superheroes, yet. It was a near perfect adaption of Chris Claremont's...Uncanny X-Men. I started reading X-Men with Giant Size X-Men, and as a result, I find Claremont's X-Men to be the pinnacle of the Merry Mutants of Marvel. I hated X-Men Evolution for the liberties they took with the characters. Wolverine and The X-Men is a good series, but the team is much weaker with, Rogue suffering the loss of her superstrength and flying abilities. Apparantly the filmmakers view Claremont's Rogue as a mistake, so they corrected it by depowering her, by basing Rogue on the X-Men films than Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men. Now that Disney/Marvel have made some kind of agreement, the first 33 ep's of this classic series are available. While there have been releases before, it was an assortment of mostly unconnected episodes.

Well, it was quite a while before Rogue could fly and had super strength. Those are abilities that she absorbed that just sort of "stuck", aren't they?

Ogre, Right, in the comics after Rogue tackled Ms. Marvel, she (Rogue) absorbed Ms. Marvel's powers, let her fall into San Francisco Bay, and she leaves...The Brotherhood of EEEEEEEEEEvil Mutants to join...The Uncanny X-Men. In the cartoon however, Rogue had superstrength, her own absorbing powers, flight right away. I definitely prefer Claremont's take on Rogue, than the people in charge of the current series.

EDIT: Fleed beat me to the punch.

EDIT: What those two said^^

And at the very least, the 90s series did tip the hat to the whole Ms. Marvel thing in an episode.

What I remember most about this show is its gaudy color palate. It looked like Fruity Pebbles puked on the cells.

Agreed. I also remember ALOT of pointless screaming.

Morph's screaming and Jean Grey's recycled "Scott!" screams were the most annoying

Watching it again for the review. It's stories are pretty strong because they're all taken from the Claremonte stories, but the design is terrible because it's taken from the then modern Liefeld and Lee illustrations.

Cable for sure has no idea what you're talking about.

I liked the series when I was a kid. I don't think I would want to revisit it.
