American Cinematheque's May Awesomeness

I figure there are some LA area Chewers who aren't on the newsletter or don't check their site regularly, but May looks pretty damn sweet.

Spread out a bit and between the Egyptian and the Aero (obviously).

May 8-13 brings a string of 70mm shows at the Egyptian, starting with Lawrence of Arabia on the eighth, a double feature of The Road Warrior and Lifeforce on the ninth, 2001 on the tenth and Vertigo on the thirteenth.

The 22-24 at the Aero starts with a double feature of Gremlins and Gremlins 2, with Joe Dante in person on the 22nd, 23rd brings a double bill of Vertigo (again) and The Untouchables in 70mm, and the 24th is Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm again.

And the 29th has Aliens and The Abyss in 70mm with James Cameron in person at the Aero.

There's a bunch of other good stuff throughout the month, too, but these were the standouts to me. I hope I can get to the Lawrence show on the 8th, but getting from work to the Egyptian by 7:30 on a Friday night is going to be pretty hard. (I haven't seen more than about five minutes of it on TV once, and I figure a 70mm screening is the best way to experience it for the first time. And the Egyptian has a much larger screen and auditorium than the Aero.)

I only heard about the Aliens /The Abyss screening yesterday, and it seems to already be sold out (I checked Fandango). I'd pay in blood for a ticket for that.

Road Warrior in 70mm is what's really tempting me. Never seen that on the big screen.
