I gave up on that game right at this point. Then I took a break, cheated by looking up how to beat the bosses and retried later and beat it quite easily.

One thing I have noticed, and this can be applied to almost anything you are trying to learn, is that if you get stuck on something, a difficult level or boss in this case, if you go to sleep your brain re-organizes the information and you actually will be better at it the next day. No shit.

For example, I almost gave up on Jak 2 because of the annoyingly difficult race near the end. I mean what kind of race forces YOU to go through difficultly positioned rings while the person you are "racing" against can go anywhere they damn well please and if you miss ONE FUCKING RING you lose. I remeber trying to beat it for hours, came close, and then couldn't get more than 1/3 of the way through.

I went to bed, got up and tried it the next day and beat it in 2-3 tries, quite easily. That being said, I hate any game where you have to pass through "rings" or where you have to complete time trials. I just don't have the patience.

F-Zero GX - The only game in the last 10 years that I gave up on because of the difficulty. I've actually been getting the urge to buy it again just to make myself feel good. Fuckin' game.

Also, and this is key, you sober up.

I had this experience with Rock Band recently. I'm pretty good, but after a few months I picked it up, and after a few warm-ups was shredding songs that usually give me trouble. I booted up Green Grass and High Tides, and did easily the best ever. In fact, if I had actually paid attention to star power, I probably would have beaten it (I assumed I'd fail again). Of course, I instead failed in the 80s/90s both tries and TURNED THE FUCKING GAME OFF AGAIN FOR A FEW MONTHS AT LEAST.

God, I love that game, but yeah, it is a bitch.

Also, let me echo Knife Chase: Could never beat Ghosts N Goblins, but I managed to soldier through the Genesis/SNES versions. Still don't know how.

Pussies. GGHT is not that hard. Use the solo buttons!

I don't have video proof but toss me in with Crow in the "can beat the dam in TMNT" club.

Because why the fuck not.

Severely rusty at this, but got the important part right.

How about the rest of the game?

I don't know if my skills have held up that well over the years, but I have beaten it a couple of times in my day.

If there is a gamer's hell, it's being forced to play the final Technodrome level over and over again.

I believe so. I never had an NES when I grew up so I was only able to play when my grandparents or parents let me rent a machine from the video store. You have to fight the Technodrome is some fashion at the end, right?
Yeah, you fight the Technodrome head on in an underground bunker. Then, somehow, you jump inside the Technodrome (which was, previously, about 50 feet tall, and play through a straightforward sidescroller interior. Which is, approximately, 10 stories tall.

All the classic examples like Battletoads have beaten me, but here's a recent example.

Flying School in San Andreas.

I literally could not pass the tutorial level in Tenchu 2, so I never actually played the game I bought.

Also, Smurfs for the Atari 2600. Fuck you, Smurfette! You want a kiss so bad, YOU hop over the picnic table.
