COMMUNITY with Joel McHale on NBC - Page 3

The same could be said for TSCC *it ranked higher than Dollhouse & Chuck in DVR views), but I suppose production costs are what ultimately pushed it over the edge for cancellation.
"This is the least tight thing that ever happened to me."

He's playing a total hippie caricature, but like Higgins last week, I loved Olsen's deliveries. I wouldn't mind if they kept him around as a semi-regular.

Also loving John Oliver ("You're an 8. Which is a British 10."), and Senor Chang getting more and more psychotic.

Also, it was a bad show.

TV Networks routinely check the iTunes and DVR and Hulu hits. All of it factors in. This is why the strike was such a big deal, among other things.

Thought last nights episode was the weakest yet. I still laughed out loud at least once though. Beats the Office, where I just cringe.

It improved dramatically in the second season and had ratings on par with Chuck and Dollhouse. All had relatively weak air time ratings, with high DVR and hulu/itunes ratings. The only thing differentiating them was production costs.

I loved this last episode and the developing relationships between different characters. Seeing Jeff and Shirley connect was great.

PS- Last week's Higgins was fan-freaking-tastic.

best line of the episode. this show gets incrementally better each week.

And it was a bad show. Also, let's not forget that Sarah Connor was on FOX and Chuck on NBC, one of which has had a top five show for years now, and the other has been bottom of the big four for years now. Sarah Connor also didn't secure a lucrative tie-in deal with Subway and agree to make budget cuts for a third season.

Tomato, Tomahto. There were millions of people who didn't think it was a bad show.

I think we can agree that Community is a good one and that it would be a shame if its numbers were hurt by the switch in time slots.
Community's doing all right and it's got critical cache, which is all that NBC has going for it right now with a lot of their shows.
"They call me Tattleina. It's a bumblebee nickname - it's cute, but it stings." I really liked that line.

I'm enjoying Community much more than Parks and Rec right now, probably because P&R is too Office-like and The Office does it much better (although Ron %@*#ing Swanson is greatness.) Community has a feel/voice distinct from The Office/P&R and 30 Rock, and 4 episodes in has proven itself to be very funny. I hope P&R "finds itself" (or I begin to find it more entertaining) but it seems like the weak link in the Must See TV lineup.
Community is easily the best new show I started watching this fall season. Right now I'd say it is funnier than HIMYM. I just wish it came on Tuesdays or Wednesdays when there is NOTHING on tv.
"Do you mind if we have this discussion in a room with less balls?"

That little shower scene was the funniest bit this show has put out, easily. 3-4 lines and each one of them was gold.
Another really solid episode. Loved the Deans entrance (and his acknowledgment of it). This shows got me hooked now. I'm actually kinda surprised. Pleasantly.

Also, like the Falafel 9/11 joke from a couple weeks ago, this one cracked me up too. Is that wrong? And is Community one of the first shows to really joke about it? I can't remember anyone really having the balls to do it before.

Family Guy did, it wasn't funny.
Yeah, I guess I should have specified funny shows.
Yeah, that balls line was a killer. Of the 4 NBC shows tonight, that was by far my favorite line.
The whole swimming pool "court room" stuff was hilarious. Especially shower room/guy with no trunks on/old lady walking by/diving board.

Whole episode was great really. One of the rare occasions that a comedy I watch has characters I all love and feel any of them can be centre stage and I'll still enjoy the hell out of it.
Abed continues to be the best part of the show, but I agree that there are no weak links. Senior Chang pulling up his pant leg on the witness stand killed me.
Chang vs Duncan was amazing. Those two could lead the show. I know there's a law on background characters being funnier in small doses, but fuck it, they're too funny.
"Shut your pompous vortex of overlapping fangs!"

Gotta use that one on someone today.

I laughed out loud way more during Community than anything else this week.

This tied with 30 Rock for me. But this might have just gotten the advantage...

Same here. This show is growing on me something fast, and it's ensemble is really strong right out of the gate. Duncan and Chang arguing killed at every single turn. The sight gags from the pool/courthouse were a great, silly touch, and I hope they keep up the recurring gag of Jeff tying 9/11 into all his arguments without beating it into the ground.

About Abed, he's my least favorite character, but only because I don't like how he's used so heavily as a meta-commentator and pop culture reference machine. However, he is a terrific foil, and I love what he brings out of anyone he's in a scene with, so I hope they keep him prominent (but scale back the wink-wink way he's written). And apropos of nothing, Danny Pudi roomed with my friend's brother in college, and is both very funny and a sweetheart. Good for him.

And damn, Gillian Jacobs is so gorgeous is somehow makes John Oliver more sympathetic when he goes to such lengths to slime his way into a creepy pseudo-date with her.
Easily the best new show of the season. The end credit scenes might be the highlight of my TV week.

Best part was that Jeff knew Naked Swimmer's name.

The Luis Guzman stuff made me laugh because the CC I went to (Mesa College in San Diego) used to make a big deal about the fact that Annette Bening used to go there for drama.

"BUSTED!"
I'm on board this 'till the bitter end. It's not only really funny but I also like the main characters.
This show is just flat out funny. The Chevy Chase song might have been less funny than the rest of the episode, but when he piano'd out "that's just the way it is" for the school song, I completely lost it. I'm sorry that was funny.

Also loved the Fawlty Towers shout out by Duncan.
"I may be a genius, but at least I'm not a lesbian."
All I know is that when Community finally goes off the air (a long time in the future, I hope), I want a chance to buy the Luis Guzman statue.

Dan Harmon noted on Twitter that night that this was an ad lib by Mr. Oliver.

Contrary to what Senor Douchemeister might think I'm actually loving this show. My favourite comedy on TV next to How I Met Your Mother and it's all about how great the interplay between characters is. Duncan and the Spanish Teachers discussions in the last episode were great and the Spanish Teachers steady descent into madness are my favourite aspects of the show. It's always great to see Chevy Chase on TV, I thought he'd died or something until I saw him on Chuck earlier this year.
Spanish teacher = Senior Chang.

That's right. Senior, not professor. Because he doesn't look like Ron Weasely. That's the distinction.

It's Senor Chang, not Senior Chang.
Actually, its SeƱor. But who's paying attention to typos?

I don't know ... did you watch this week's Dexter? That "what's with you and rape" line had me stitches for minutes.
Count me as another fan of the Fawlty Towers line. That slew me.
If you say "jump," Troy will say "how high?" If you say "stop," he'll say "Hammer Time!"

Also, any show that uses The Violent Femmes as their score is alright with me.
That racism exchange on the football field was pretty awesome.
Too bad they overplayed it in the commercials. Still, solid ep.
yea i definitely rewound the racism exchange. that was great
post #146 of 1374
This show is greatness. The whole conversation about Abed referring to them all as fictional characters and his response just about killed me.

If show doesn't get picked up for more episodes I'll be shocked.
I thought this was the funniest show tonight. It's on the way to greatness quicker than THE OFFICE or 30 ROCK.
Abed's line about last week being Abed heavy was hilarious but unfortunately made no sense since this ep was meant to be 1x04 (and the one before, 1x03, being the Abed film study episode).

The order has now gone 1, 2, 3, 6, 5, 4.

6 would've made much more sense being last in the order because it featured more payoff to the Britta/Jeff dynamic. 4 and 5 featured more relationship foreplay, if you will.

Anyway, still hilarious.
This went to must watch TV last night since there was no Fringe and god this show is just the best.

The whole episode was great but I really am loving Chevy Chase. Just seeing his "Chevy" return in bits like him kicking stuff off the desk to prop his feet up makes me smile.

Also loved the "I think that linebacker is a pregnant lady" line.. I was rolling.
Another awesome post-credits scene. Also, I've watched the racism exchange about 5 times so far. This has quickly become a show I look forward to every week.
