COMMUNITY with Joel McHale on NBC - Page 2

As well as being really funny, this show has a lot more heart than I'd expected, or would expect of a single camera. McHale and Chase's arc in this episode was really nicely done.
It was alright, the end of the presentation was unfortunately given away in the numerous promos.

The Aimee Mann Magnolia song wasn't spoiled in the promos and that was half of the greatness.
Chevy Chase, still got it!

the "tardiness" exchange and "did you say S?" were fantastic gold.
Best Spanish rap since Rico Suave. I was dying.
Anyone who doesn't think this show is a slice of fried gold is either dead inside or Spike Marshall.
NBC is really pushing the shit out of this show. I woke up at four in the morning the other night and there was what for all purposes was an infomercial- a half hour block of paid programming that was just a long promo for this show. And it wasn't on an NBC/Universal channel.

I don't know, maybe this is commonplace now, but I thought it was a little odd.

Or your DerekT.

I thought the first episode was very good. But this episode.

Wow, so there was a montage with wacky costumes.

But the big basic problem I have with the show. Why does McHale think the one chick is the only fuckable person in the universe. I mean if he was in love with her it may work, but its hard to watch a show which seems to be based on "so will he get to fuck her".

I'll upgrade him to "might have found it again". But if you're implying he's had it all along, I strongly disagree sir.
You guys must be hard up for comedy. Because two episodes in, I haven't seen much of it here.

I think I can answer this.

Jeff is an alpha male. He's used to getting what he wants and Britta is spurning him, which drives him nuts.
I'm glad this is on Primtime on demand, that way I don't need to bother dVRing it. But holy hell I was laughing my ass off.

Extremely funny episode and I loved the stuff with Ken Jeong. I also think Chevy Chase has got his mojo back. And the rap at the end was epic.
I am worried that I am wanting to like this show more...but it may not be as good as I want it to be.

Granted its two episodes only, but there are a few nagging issues they need to address fast.

Drop McHale's character's obsession with Brita. It really hurts the show when they come to the relationship shit. The best part is the interaction between all the OTHER characters. Brita is the least interesting one, and when Mchale keeps pursuing her it hurts everything.

i want more abed and chevy. Chevy still definitely has it, and this was a nice showcase for him and joel to riff off each other.

Actually, his back-and-forth with Britta is my favorite part of the show.
It's going to get increasingly creepy if he keeps trying to get in her pants throughout a whole season and beyond. That's pretty damn stalkery in his tenacity.

I can see why some people might like it, but the schtick is already old. I get the feeling that they are going to play this "she's playin coy" thing way too long already and then they are going to have the obligatory sexin' session where it will all change
post #67 of 1374
I felt like they found their rhythm a little bit with this episode. John Michael Higgins was fantastic, I really hope his character pops up a few more times. So over the top but so great. Also Pierce trying to eat pizza made me laugh out loud. It's been so long since Chevy has remembered how good he is at physical comedy.
This show is getting better each week. It's more grounded then the other shows and I think that will play in it's favor.

I wish he would take the shaded glasses off, though. What made him funny was his reactions to his foibles, which are completely hidden by his frames. I know he probably doesn't want to look as old as he is; it's just the white/balding hair renders that point moot, absurd glasses or no.
I definitely enjoyed this episode more than last. The little bits with Abed and Troy at the end are cracking me up.
Best episode yet and the first that gives me hope for this show. Some of the gags shouldn't work, but the cast somehow makes them. The opening Spanish meeting was particularly funny and well written/performed.

The first scene with Abed's dad was great, too.
A lot of great lines in this ep.

"I'm gonna pound you like a boy that didn't come out right."

I like Modern Family more, but this is pretty solid.
Has it changed timeslots three shows in? And is that a bad sign?
Aren't they just making room for 30 Rock?
Oh, maybe so. Thanks. I know jack about TV schedules.
Yeah, they gave it a prime spot right after The Office to start the season and are now going to put 30 Rock back there when it starts back up on the 15th.
That was a great episode. I really love it so far.

I missed these, but they're fucking great.

Thought this was the best episode yet. Chevy Chase is really growing on me, he seems to come off better the more they keep him to periphery weirdness and out of the main plots.

Hard to argue that Higgins was totally mugging it up, but for such an over-the-top character, it was perfect. His randomly climbing a tree at the end made me laugh harder than it should've. But the part that had me paralyzed with laughter, and sold me on the rest of the season, was the delivery of this argument:

"Raising him means letting him follow his dreams!"
"Dreams are for sleeping!"
"You don't know that!"
"It's clinically proven!"
"So's polio!"
"YOU LOST ME!"

Caught the Abed-makes-a-movie episode on TV, then Hulu'ed the other 2. The hubby & I really liked it & hope it lasts (I'm always wary of jumping on a show from the beginning; the potential for cancellation always leaves me nervous). I agree the set-up is a little silly, but the scripts & actors are very promising.

We squealed in delight when John Oliver showed up in the pilot. I sure hope he shows back up once in a while.
That third ep was top notch. Higgins was very funny to me, and Chevy had some hilarious moments ("Those are both for me," and his pizza eating issues, especially.)

Can't wait to see who Patton Oswalt plays in a few weeks.
I"ve heard this is on the verge of cancellation.. but this is probably the BEST new comedy of the year for me.

Love the stuff at the end of each episode. I like that repeats are available on demand and on BRAVO.
The third episode is far and away the best episode so far.

Really? Because it's doing just fine according to this http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42592

It's certainly doing better than 'Parks and Recreation'.
that's a relief. I had just read one of those stories on yahoo mentioning a bunch of shows that weren't doing so good. I hope to see a full season of it.

I'm surprised Chevy isn't ruining this show for me.

And for those who love Britt
Here she is naked in Choke
Obvious NSFW.
Ha! Ha! She was Cherry Daiquiri? Hilarious. The wig bit that played in every commercial still killed when I saw the film.
this moves to 8 pm next week, which seems like a premature move. hope it makes it, i think it has a ton of potential.
I thought that 8/7 was its "predestined" slot, and was holding the post-"Office" slot for 30 Rock until its return?

Either way, I'll do my best to continue watching it (although the kids are still awake at 8/7, so it will be tougher to tune in; may have to catch it on Hulu).
Boo! This move means I'll be contributing to it's rating s drop. I have several shows recording at 8. My DVR won't take another.
There's always Hulu or iTunes, which get monitored just as closely as the ratings do these days.

The third episode was indeed the best yet. I was laughing hard throughout. Show's finding its groov.
So far, tis show is very funny, but it'd be great if it didn't have to keep reminding us that Joel is a dick and punishing him for it. Especially when his foil is as humorless as Britta. This will fit in fine with Office and 30 Rock, hopefully.
Stupendous tits right there. I'm really liking the show. The open with the bet that Pierce was going to say something worse within the minute was great. So was the Robin Williams type dude. When he climbed the tree i almost lost it.

It gets monitored but I don't think get used when determining whether to keep a show on the air. I remember when The Sarah Connor Chronicles was canceled they explained it was because of low ratings during its air time, though many news articles would caveat that there were 10 million more viewers who watched via their DVR (like me) or online.
I don't think Hulu gives that much ad revenue, so the numbers there are likely weighted less.
in that case record it on BRAVO on Sunday morning. Shouldn't interfere with your DVR unless you are recording Sunday Morning on CBS.
Abbed is turning into a great character. Great to see John Oliver come back.
The post credit bits are the best part of the show so far.

You're wrong. Maybe it was the case for Sarah Connor, but the DVR/Hulu/iTunes numbers are what saved Chuck, Dollhouse, and Gossip Girl (although that show had cultural cache, too), among others.
"Why don't you go kill John Lennon again?"
Great ep. As a psychologist, the prof's meltdown over outliers ruining his experiment rang too true. As a gossipologist, I connected with Shirley. And as usual, Abed (aka "Phoebe") steals the show.

Link? All Google tells me is that Save X Show petitions argue that networks need to change the way they calculate ratings, but nothing confirming that the networks have.
I think Alan Sepinwall has said that DVR ratings etc helped with Dollhouse and Chuck. Of course there were fan campaigns for both, but there was also the knowledge that there was a fanbase outside of the people who were watching live.
