Bad enough that we're going to be paying up the ass for fares at the end of the month, and now this- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/30/ny...0mta.html?_r=1

If I wanted service like that, I'd've stayed in Boston!

Well, I can see only one winner in this scenario, should this go into effect: cabbies! Think of all the drunken revelers you'd get at 3 in the morning now!

Dunno, we don't have 24 hour service here. It goes from 5 am to 11pm And i'm not sure if it's really necessary to extend it. At night they are barely occupied and it would be a real increase in costs.

Most subways are packed all night over here. Sometimes you can't get a seat coming home at 5:00 in the morning on the weekend.

What. The. Fuck?

It's always been here in NYC, so much so that the economy is practically built around it. Not saying businesses will go out under, but bars won't be as profitable. You'd have to set away money for a cab instead of blowing it all on shots now. The highly valued 24 hour diner will take a hit during the wee morning hours (where I imagine they make most of their money). It'll destabilize a lot of things out there. And god help you if you live on the L train and find yourself in Manhattan stuck at work late at night. Looks like you're heading into Brooklyn to catch the ever unreliable G train!

Haha. The G train...

I look forward to spending $13.00 to get home at 2AM when I could just spend $2.00. Oh wait! $2.50 as of the 31st! Dear God, who the fuck is running this city and state?

Well, it's hard to discern how many of these "unavoidable" doomsday cuts the MTA is serious about. They're trying to get rescued, so they have nothing to lose right now by going the full Subway Apocalypse route.

Still, it's scary that they're even bringing it up. (Which is, of course, the point.)

Edit: I have to add that they are mysteriously very terrible at budget forecasting. The last time they projected a massive deficit and raised fares they ended up nine hundred million dollars in the black at the end of the year.

In New York City most parties don't start until after 11pm.

I can't imagine having to shell out money for a cab just because I want to be active past midnight.

And as someone who lived on the G train for years... F THE G TRAIN.

Ours don't start till 2 am. Buses, Cabs and Cars.

Plus, train stations tend to be among the most unsafe areas of town.

Speaking of the subway...

White Folks Guide to the NYC Subway

It's funny cuz it's true.

Edit: Although it's slightly inaccurate, the 7 train is usually filled up on game days.

Fuck this shit. I'd say "they wouldn't dare"... but honestly I wouldn't put it past the MTA to pull this stunt if they don't get what they want.

You know who gets hit hardest by this? The Warriors. No way they're making it back to the CI now.

Hey, they knew the risks by going all the way up into the Bronx.

Expect alot more homeless on the streets.

This will also force the CHUD above ground to feed at night.

I thought New York is the city that never sleeps.

As someone who uses almost exclusively public transportation this has always pissed me off.
